tht's one option that I've considered. but then again, assuming I plan to sell off my car in 3 years time - i believe the civic can still fetch a price of about 100K based on the price trend i see in carlist. and this will still be an attractive buy for potential buyers as there will still be remaining of 2 yrs warranty. however, i dont think mazda 6's value will be on par w civic in 3 years time, especially when there's already a newer model out there in the market. just my 2 cents

New model introduce next year, 2013 earliest, 2014 if delay. The earliest you see people start selling the car also around 2016, there may be some who will sell the car in 2015 but that number is negligible. If you buy the M6 now, you will also sell earliest by 2015, no issues there but 3 years is a long time and anything can happen. So how sure are you that you will 100% sell the car by then, be it Civic or something else?

This civic suppose to be cost down version for honda. But here the price is even up higher. Even the engine don't look good compare FD2. Does the price justify.

Another is, local honda assembly intend to use 60% local content. That should reduce the price and not getting higher. Our local parts more expensive? Is it worth to buy?

bro, i don't think i have ever seen a new model launched which is priced cheaper than its previous version. the price increase for 2.0 is about 2K. if you averaged out 2K over ~5 years, and factor in the inflation, and some of the features given and also the new 5 years warranty - i dont think the buyers are any worse off. i think the debate between SOHC vs. DOHC will be never ending, but to the normal users - i dont think the difference will be obvious.

btw, i dont understand when ppl debate over if a car is value for money. i always see a car as a lifestyle, and a choice. i've already accepted the fact tht owning a car in malaysia will never be cheap. so the question should always be - how much you are willing to spend? not which offers the best value.. cars that are so called value for money usually have an underlying reason why they are priced lower.. right? haha

haha, well i guess this is just my short term plan. in 3 yrs time, w my increments, bonus and promotions - i should be able to afford a car above 160K quite comfortably. and by then, i'll expect a whole new range of car models to choose from. so an upgrade by then, sounds well deserved smile.gif

so between M6 and civic, i'll expect civic to carry a higher value. although M6 may be a better car, but it has been around for far too long. i rather get a newly launched car. and worst case, if i dont intend to sell - it should still be a good car to use for a couple more years considering it's still under warranty and part of the servicing is still covered

on the bolded part i think we cant really defend the indefensible
i am a normal user drive to work and home, oustations, back hometown, the lot.
given choice of single cam or double cam, i would prefer double cam everytime.
people may shout about saving fuel blah blah blah but DOHC advantages are well documented

with a DOHC i can still save fuel. just press the pedal more gently. the moment i need the power of DOHC, i have them ready at my disposal. but with a SOHC, where the extra urge gonna come from?

value for money in a car is its overall performances i.e good brand, superb aftersales, aftermarket, peace of mind, great resale value (if u need it but i think most people need this if not all people). for example one people here i see want to change car after 3 years so that person need a car with great value. i dont treat a car as a lifestyle to be honest. if i do then i would want a lambo.

currently i am waiting delivery of my white 2.0L non navi. if it arrives this week then this will be the very first time i buy a car WITHOUT test driving it. sweat.gif but never say never, before i sign off the letters, everything IS POSSIBLE.

Test drove the new Civic, power is definitely there and gear changes are smooth despite being a 5-speeder. The car looks elegant in the metal but it lost the wow factor of the 8th Gen. But one thing that separates the new Civic from the old.....it's driving experience. Handling is top notch and car feels planted. If one is truly in the market for a new car, one needs to test drive the Civic and not just look at the spec sheet.

The only gripe I have for the car would be the engine cover which looks a little too common for my liking.

Congrates on the 2.0s. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I enjoyed the test drive myself and is actually damn surprised how fast my wife booked the new Civic after dragging her feet on the forte for the whole month.

local content doesn't mean cheaper parts
typically locally assembled cars has a lower price due to tax differences
but to say that local content means cheaper parts, hence lower car price is not always accurate
you need to look at the volume and economy of scale for the local made parts
which would you think make the cheaper part?
- a factory in japan producing a part at a volume of 100,000 a year
- a local factory making 10,000 of the same part a year

There is this talk about market liberalisation in 2015-2016, don't know how true is it but if it happens, your 3 years plan will go down to the drain.

well, if that really happens, and assuming used car prices erode - then i always have the option to keep it or pass it to my parents. and i'm sure many ppl incl myself is one step closer to owning luxury cars within an affordable price range. consumer still wins at the end of the day. and my 3 yr plan has been fast forwarded to 5 years or more, cuz by then - i can drive home a premium conti car sooner than expected!

Premium conti is definitely possible if you are taking a 3 year loan for the civic now or paying it in full.

A 110k loan is still about 2.1k to pay every month for 5 years, 1.8k or so if 9 years. My relative is paying 3.4k now for a loan of 246k for 7 years... Ouch

So if you see yourself being able to put in 2.5k to 3.5k per month or put a huge downpayment. It's definitely very possible to achieve that goal 3 Years from now thumbup.gif

Yea i must agree that the Mazda6 is a nice looking car in exterior and especially interior.

But after all the fuss about Korean cars n all, i think i still prefer the new civic so far. If only the new civic had a sunroof i think their sales will be boosted! To be fair, i will test drive my friends Elantra soon.

To the guy who bought without test driving, dont worry, many have here including myself and feedback is positive on handling. To the dude who cancelled the Elantra and bought civic, can you elaborate on how different the handling/bumpiness/cornering/acceleration/engine noise/etc is?

Thanks...
