if our car industry was an open market, it would'nt be hard. look at the US, koreans sell remarkably there.

korean marques sell remarkably in the US? do you have any sales figure to back that up? well, no doubt that their sales are improving, but they are still playing catching up in the US market.

for the month of june 2012:

-- The Ford F- series pickup remains king, but the Chevrolet Silverado pickup is back as America’s No. 2 seller in June after being bumped recently by the Toyota Camry. However, the redesigned 2012 Camry leads Silverado through the first six months, 213,903 to 194,508.

-- It’s a sedan traffic jam on June’s best-seller list. Mid-sized and small cars are packed tightly in the sales race. It’s No. 3 Toyota Camry with 32,107 sales followed by Chevrolet Malibu at 31,402 and Honda Accord at 28,924, then No. 7 Honda Civic 27,500, Toyota Corolla 26,647 and No. 9 Ford Fusion at 24,433.

so yeah, most of US citizens still prefer the 2012 toyota camry and the 2012 honda civic.

Been burnt once and once is too much IMO. But that aside, I and my wife have been actively scouting a 2nd car for the past month and we both agreed that the KIA Forte represented the best bang for buck. My wife was even impressed during the test drive and we even got a good SA that offered us fantastic discount. My research also showed that the after sales is at an acceptable level, though not as good as the T&H marque but still good enough to be deemed as a problem free purchase. Resale value of the Forte is also surprisingly good after talking to a few 2nd hand dealers...but whenever I asked if she placed her deposit with the car, she would always give some excuse like not free or too busy with work or distracted by some other thing and this went on for the past month. Then came last Sunday, we went to view the new Civic and after taking it for a test drive, she immediately paid the deposit and booked the car, LOL!

At the end of the day, it's what she's comfortable buying la bro. Koreans may have improved but they have a huge perception issue to overcome in the hearts of Malaysians

same goes to me, before this , i had almost booked elantra, but kept delaying..when civic comes out, elantra is never on my mind anymore laugh.gif

Let's wait and see 5 years down the line, if you still defend your position with regards to resale value and service quality ???!!!! LOL

QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Jul 16 2012, 01:13 AM)
Are u sure the bad feedback was from Naza or previous Kia's? How would you know unless uve experienced it yourself? Most of these so called 'bad feedback' come from previous gen Koreans. But, im not saying current after sales standards are on par with the Japs. Sure it isnt. But its improved alot in the last 2 years especially. We can't expect overnight changes.

But is after sales service standards more important than value for money? Would you pay about 35K more to get better after sales service & resale value since specs are basically the same between the 2.0L Forte and the 2.0L Civic? You would i guess but i think 35K is too much to pay. I faced the same dilemma when i was choosing my car. Yes i could have gone with the masses and booked myself a Camry but at what cost? I find it comical that ppl talk endlessly bout the importance of resale value but they are fine with paying top dollar for something with far less specs initially. Somehow, value for money for them does have a different definition.

You remind me back early 20's when looking for car. Deep in my hearts, I always like to have a Honda car. That time is gen5/6 which is good sale and look. But the price is expensive. I only can afford rm100k car. So get another brand and wait passionly.

Honda gen7 arrived and a big dissapointment with the design. Pass this gen7 and continue drive with my old car. sad.gif

Gen8 arrived and this is it. Trade in my old car and get this gen8. Dream come true. smile.gif But it is enough for me for the Honda car. The price is just too expensive now and doesn't make sense.

the elantra? well, it ranks no 19 in america's june 2012 best selling list and its sales dropped 5.4% compared to june 2011. in fact the best selling korean marque in america is the hyundai sonata at no 15. so what about elantra? no doubt that it won the 2011 best compact car in north america, but it can't even touch the sales of the universally panned 2012 honda civic. you see, i'm not trying to bash the koreans, they make good cars recently like the elantra and optima, but not just malaysians suck up to toyota and honda, even the americans as well.

Bro ure not getting the point. Would Americans still buy the Camry if it came with 2 airbags and a 10 yr old gearbox and engine? But Malaysians are still doing that despite having to pay so much more. So u cant compare Americans and Malaysians and say both are the same. Yes both may support the same brand but they are not supporting the same specs at the same price level. If the current Camry came with the same specs as its American counterparts, even i might be tempted to get the Camry ( that is if i can overcome the poor design). biggrin.gif

i dont see how the Gen 8 Civic is more stylish or beautiful than the Gen 9 Civic .Maybe Honda have plenty to live up to after the Gen8 has given them much success and adoration.

It is a proven brand and as such it ought to sell more expensive than its competitor especially with malaysian mindset businessman.

i personally have seen the new civic at honda showroom and see nothing wrong with it even with the much critisized hard plastic dashboard

the SOHC was preferred for better FC without compromising much on power and i'm sure many potential buyer will like this . the 5 years unlimited mileage warranty offer a peace of mind and there are extras features added in as well with 1 or 2 k more than previous model. so what is the fuss about

have to agree with starship's comments. I've test drove the new civic, and vtec still sounds as good as ever. don't think the exterior is as bad as publicized - you just have to see it in metal. interior is not the greatest, but I can live w tht. Will be booking one soon + adding the modulo kit smile.gif

i do agree tht the driving exp is not as "spirited" as compared to a vw, but for 130K - is there a better option out there? besides, i've browsed through vw forum and there are just too many common issues on failed mechatronics, dsg gb, etc. althought it's covered by warranty, leaving ur car in the workshop for a few weeks is not cool

i think civic is one of the best option out there given the price range. i've also looked at other models, but most of it are nearing the end of its lifecycle. my plan is to get the new mazda 6 w its new takeri concept in the next 2-3 yrs smile.gif so getting a car now w good resale value is an important factor for me personally

Since ure already planning to change in the next 2 years, whats the problem in going for another make even if its nearing its end of cycle? I still think that for RM 132K, ure better off getting the current Mazda 6 2.0L at RM 133K (OTR) with 60,000 km free service.

This civic suppose to be cost down version for honda. But here the price is even up higher. Even the engine don't look good compare FD2. Does the price justify.

Another is, local honda assembly intend to use 60% local content. That should reduce the price and not getting higher. Our local parts more expensive? Is it worth to buy?

tht's one option that I've considered. but then again, assuming I plan to sell off my car in 3 years time - i believe the civic can still fetch a price of about 100K based on the price trend i see in carlist. and this will still be an attractive buy for potential buyers as there will still be remaining of 2 yrs warranty. however, i dont think mazda 6's value will be on par w civic in 3 years time, especially when there's already a newer model out there in the market. just my 2 cents
