IRAS is not GIRO, and IRAS is not GIRO.
You are confused between them and also may have confused the IRAS officer when you use the term "GIRO" when you made your inquiries.

QUOTE(sapapa @ Feb 18 2012, 07:31 PM)
Hey guys, my company holds 15% of my monthly salary for the period of 6 months(probation period). After this period, the company would return the money back to me. I have been asked that applying a GIRO account would help me as I would get the full salary and the company does not hold 15% of my monthly salary for 6 months.

I went to GIRO few days ago and talked to the officers there. They said that I am not liable to any tax, they could not help me with this. They said that this is between you and your company.

So now I'm confuse.

I wonder if anyone experience this before?
*
I think what your employer was telling you is: Open any bank account so that they can bank in your salary to your bank account(plus the 15% that they withhold since day 1).

Just like what seantang said, previously they paid you in cheque so they have to withhold certain amount for tax purposes and also to cover their own butt just in case you just disappear someday. Using cheque means its kinda "off the book", hence the preferred method is bank in/bank transfer(which also means GIRO). With proper record and everything, it's easier for tax declaration and filling purposes.

Bear in mind, personal income tax is the matter between you and IRAS. IRAS wouldn't bother anything about what and how your employer pays you(legally speaking, of course), as long as you declare your income properly and pay them on time.

Wow, I gonna butthurt liao.

I just get to know my friend's friend at the SG Airshow 2012 over the last weekend working as a first officer pilot in SIA and draws him a salary of $26,000 per month and guess what, he is only 28 this year. rclxub.gif

Fulalmak, high income, great salary, high social status profession, a job that command great respects and attention especially from all the stewardress, travel around the world, staying in 5 stars hotel when abroad, which jobs other than pilot can have these sort of treatment and attributes??

And my friend told me he just bought a condo in SG and also paying installment for RM3 million bungalow in KL.

Back to ground now whereby most of us is only earning $7K to $8K a month. Sad....

Regretted I din took-up piloting but when into accountancy instead.

One of my colleague is ex-VP of SIA (yes VP!). I used to chat with him on the required flying hours/aircraft to correspond to the ranks and salary structure. The numbers you've put up given his age seems to be Linsane.

It's either your friend gave you false info, or my colleague was pulling my leg.

1 company 9 ppl ? Technical 'Superintendent' might sounds high position but with 9 ppl total, you might have to play double or triple roles hmm.gif

For every SIA pilot earning that kind of money, there are lots more pilots in smaller airlines, budget airlines, flying smaller planes, flying short haul, flying cargo planes and a lot more who didn't pass flight school.

On the same token, for every bunch of accountants earning a few thousand bucks a month, there are a few who earn $20-30K a month. Those at the top of their game (just like how A380 pilots are at the top of their game) will earn easily 0.5 to a few million a year.

Pilots also carry with them a very high risk factor. No, not the risk of flight mishaps, but the risk of losing their flight licences due to a fail on the very stringent annual health checks. And background checks too (especially if you fly to US).

One of these people is bullsh*tting you lah. 26k per month, even 747-400 and A380 Captains don't earn that kind of money unless you factor in allowances. Sos: I have a good friend who just joined SIA (started flying school at 30 years old, lulz).

He mentioned average take home income (but not sure is before or after tax), so I believe is inclusive of allowances because he used to fly to Australia and the Great Britain.

I think is true as average Airasia pilot income already reached RM13K to RM14K previously when I look through the Airasia pilot thread in here.

I think the position is actually quite high since they are actually willing to fork out S$6k for 5years exp. Although of course i am not gonna be paid as much with my exp, but i think they maybe more interested in my japanese language ability, and of course, I am much cheaper than S$6k biggrin.gif

Just curious, how long for the EPass to be approved? I really cannot remember how long it took mine to get approved. Also, is there a way to find out the ACRA for the company (need that to fill the EPASS form).
