QUOTE(tiramisu83 @ Feb 29 2012, 02:58 PM) actually i can get more than RM5k here. If you can get extra 2k (after convert to RM), do u think is worth for you to move? Not really.SGD5K - rental at least SGD700 = SGD4300.. Added on February 29, 2012, 3:03 pm Actually agent also told me that: since you can get that amount in malaysia, why u still want to go singapore (although salary extra 1k-2k). I just feel singaporean are push down our salary because we are malaysian and they know we want to earn SGD. You forgot to factor in SG lower tax (no withholding), lower cost of living and lower transportation costs (no need car). In M'sia you have to take into account housing loan or rent (if you're not staying in father & mothers house), car instalments, servicing of car, petrol, parking, toll in addition to the higher cost of virtually everything from food to clothes and higher tax. To give you a flavour of what that means, I am currently SAVING (after all deductions including rental, tax, transportation, food, entertainment, etc) in Singapore Dollars MORE than I earn (Gross) in Malaysia after conversion into RM....and I'm paid RM 1 = SGD1..... |

QUOTE(seantang @ Mar 2 2012, 12:23 AM) If you're in a good job in Singapore... you'll earn more working a secure, relatively stress free 8 hours a day vs 99% of the people who do their own little business working 24/7. Not really lar...If the business venture is something ground breaking, game changing - then yes, it's worth the time, energy and risk. But if it's something lame like opening a cafe, makan place, some dinky little store selling handphones somewhere... I rather work 9 to 5 and earn a much better return on the investment of my time & energy. At least business (if it suceed) can ensure a stable income.. Working for people in SG, if boss dun like your face can fire you... |

QUOTE(cute_boboi @ Mar 2 2012, 06:22 PM) If you are going to stay 1 month there, you should have time to walk around. Forgot the names spelling, GO watch Lionel Messi in action in the Nou Camp!Park Guelle, Sagrada Familia temple, I think there is a bull fighting ring also (not used anymore?). If got full day, try to goto Montserrat by train. They have some funny buildings also with tiles and books, etc. MNG and Mango there are like Giordano/Baleno here, everywhere also have shops. That's all I recall now. If got > 2D time, take overnight train/bus to Zaragoza, Madrid, Valencia. OOT already Damn I jelly! |

QUOTE(ThanatosSwiftfire @ Mar 5 2012, 04:10 PM) What surprises me, is that HK's pay is so much lower compared to Singapore. I for one expected them to be relatively similar, given that the perception of HK as financial powerhouse and the so-called gateway to China. I guess that becuase HKD's weak strength (since its pegged against USD) compared to SGD appreciation against USD? |

QUOTE(keelim @ Apr 24 2012, 01:07 PM) It's the lag effect in job opportunities against population growth. While is good that capitalism catalyze technology advancement and allow labour skills to move up the value chain... It fails to tackle the lag effect. I worried for people in the tech industry that is not part of apple and Samsung product value chain.... Like Nokia Survival of the fittest. Otherwise you end up with lots of complacent people who show no interest in improving themselves. |

QUOTE(seantang @ Apr 26 2012, 11:40 AM) Could be subsidiary cards. Or they already have a home loan etc with the bank. Or they may have other income you don't know about. Or they simply didn't tell you their real salary. I have never told anyone besides my parents my real salary in my entire life. No leh. I got Citi premier miles but my total pay is nowhere near S$80k p.a. |

QUOTE(jett991 @ May 7 2012, 11:27 AM) hey guys, i just give some opinions on working in SG...I am working in SG with an EP; just feel that SG is a place to work, solely for that, nothing is greater than our motherland(Malaysia);the bad is only our government,if our government is good, people-oriented,corruption-free,upholding the law of the country, emphasis on corporate government,i believe we all dun be so suffered to work at another country, right?? hahaha that was initially most people's plan including my own. Then things change when you start to have a SG GF and a close bunch of friends in SG...Added on May 7, 2012, 11:34 amI pray to God,hopefully I can gain sufficient experience,to be professionally qualified(hopefully it will be smooth in this 3-5years),go back to serve my country, our newly formed government! i encourage u guys to come back to serve the country,to let it continue to prosper; i believe that u guys dun wan to see our country always lags behind of other country, right? |

QUOTE(MPIK @ May 10 2012, 06:20 PM) I see nowadays salary also not bad in KL too (on the salary thread here), 5 years exp can achieve RM8K to RM10K I dunno it's worth it or not unless you earn significantly less in SGD than what M'sia is paying (and especially so if you are planning to work/live in KL City). Last time I went back i was shocked that chicken rice cost RM 6 per plate in KL City. Compared to 3-4 years ago at RM4.5 per plate that a 33% increase in 3-4 years. Now with the implementation of min wage, expect the prices of goods and necessities to increase even further. Don't forget the higher tax too. Ending up, RM10k might not seem alot....Anyhow, I am still considering |

QUOTE(onomatopoeia @ May 21 2012, 05:59 PM) BTW, how come P2 categorize as Elite? IMHO, earning 5k not really an elite life. I'm sure lots of ppl debated before about RM and SGD, I would like to compare a life of a single(35 years old) man living in KL and a SGPR RM 5k where can afford RM 500k house and a RM 90k Honda City?In KL, he can purchase a Rm500k double-storey house and drive a new Honda City. In SG, he can only afford a $400k HDB and cannot afford a new car RM 5k - say 18% (EPF & Tax) = RM 4,100 The repayment for a RM 500k house based on today's BLR and a 10% downpayment (or RM 50k) and 30 years repayment profile is RM 2,873. That means you left with RM 1,227. A RM 90k car loan with 10% downpayment with a 9 years repayment profile is RM 1,047. That means you left with RM 180. You think RM 180 enough for food, parking, toll, etc? You gotta be kidding me, right? |
