Hey,

Can someone with unifi vip 5, 10 and 20 do the following speedtest for me to the server in Houston?

My jalan, yet to have unifi, but I just like to know how is the result, since I regularly do teleconferencing with my family in Houston and as well as New York.

currently I am using streamyx 1mb and the result is as follow.

Thanks Idragon

So the ping/latency is similar in the sense that when video conferencing, we would still see lag right?

Furthermore, the ping for vip10 and 20 would be similar I guess.

I wonder how good is the ping/latency from the neighboring Singapore.

Actually it does depend on what VoIP/video-call programs you use as well, not justs the connection.
I call and video my wife too in Houston every day, the lag in video calls is bearable. Actually most of the time they are considered good.

We use Skype the most often btw.
All this on a streamyx 1mbps line.

Thanks everyone for the speedtest.

Give me an idea what to expect. Basically, my current experience with streamyx 1mb to Houston/NewYork, usually is kind of laggy, usually on calls, the video could be lagging like less then 1second, behind the audio. How I know, well, its like the other end shows a card on the view-cam, and say it out, then like 1 second later then I see the card being flashed. At other times when it is bad, it can be like couple of minutes...I know thats crazy. If that happens the connection would drop before the video gets to catch up.

This would be a problem with streamyx/tmnet/unifi's routing? So the latency is due to the routing that is being done on the data packets right?

Finally, yeah it is better then years before. I just had high hopes for unifi, but I think I would be kind of disappointed.
PS: I am using skype too.

Thanks again everyone!

Asking for some advice here, whats the best router to use for Unifi? With the least amount of extra modification and configuration.

The router they provided is getting worse shakehead.gif. Can't even surf net properly unless I use wired connection.

I have done some research and it seems that TP-Link routers are recommended. Which model is the best? Need to install custom firmware? Some posts in this topic noted that there is a Unifi sticker on the box, implying that you can straight away use their default firmware, yet Klseet site includes custom firmware for download. rclxub.gif

Was late on my billing and line got suspended. After paying for it and have the people at TM unblocking my unifi, it has been like 8 hours now and the line is still suspended. How do these people make a living in this world when unblocking a suspended line is taking more than 8 hours. They claims that their SLA is 24 hours for unbarring. That is just plain ridiculous.

Asus RT-56U would be the best for end user i think... although the price is still high...

if u don't mind re-flashing firmware (without need to do any setting mod), TL-1043ND can considered one of best affordable yet powerful router for UniFi

when u mean re-flashing, u mean just download the custom firmware and upgrade it within the router page right?

so 1043ND is the best? what is the reason to use it over 841ND or 8960N (which apparently doesn't even require any custom firmware) ?

ASUS RT12N , its not bad router. I mean it has easy QoS and works great with UniFi. I would recommend that . If you are looking for cheap and cheerful router

I am using TP-Link TL-WR841ND, price below RM100.

In the WAN settings page, if you see there is a radio button on top "UniFi users" .. then you click that and configure the PPPoE settings. If you do not see that means you have to flash it with the lastest firmware that you can download from TP-Link Malaysia website.
