Guys , I'll probably need some help here. If we can get this working it means that its possible to use Broadcom BCM53xx switches (i.e WRT54GL) to work with Unifi. One guy did manage to get it to work but however he is using mikrotik router and uses his WRT54GL just for his IPTV purposes.

and

http://freqoflife.com/technology/linksys-w...l-vlan-tagging/

So i decided to embark on the journey and test it out (to get WAN working at least) but I cant establish a PPPoE connection.

Probably , I would need rizvan's help on this

CODE

rmmod switch-robo  # unload default
insmod /jffs/switch-robo.o  #load the new thing
sleep 10 #wait a while
echo "" > /proc/switch/eth0/vlan/1/ports  # remove our crap
echo "4t 5" > /proc/switch/eth0/vlan/500/ports # obtain from N12 nvram
vconfig add eth0 500
ifconfig eth0.500 up
nvram set wan_ifname=eth0.500
startservice wan

Unipack 2 year contract Not Finish

Can Change to Unifi?

any penalty?
*
No but they charged me for both unifi and tm streamyx. I told them that I already converted mine to unifi and asked them to cancel the line. They did that and refunded me the money. So yeah , there is no penalty involved , but if you are still being charged for unifi and unipack , you gotta let them know

Anyway 5Mbps is enough for me. All I do these days is mainly to stream HD content from hulu which requires about 2Mbps.

The good news is I've managed to get Broadcom BCM53xx switches (aka Linksys WRT54GL , ASUS RT-12N , Linksys E3000 and its variants) to work with unifi. Thank god for the awesome VLAN patch that allows VLAN > 16 to be created

Next is to figure out how to get that IPTV working

I got couple of PMs today from my fellow forumers asking me on how I use Hulu and how good is the service for VPN.

I use HideIPVPN , http://www.hideipvpn.com/ . These guys are not bad , UK/US VPN . Basically I can get to watch BBC iPlayer as well (Top Gear anyone).

Unblock-US is another great alternative. It does not use VPN instead it does it at DNS level. Basically you dont have to worry about sucky latency when you game or when you browse local sites. Automagically Hulu , BBC iPlayer , CBS will work for you.

Of course there are options here in LYN , we have tons of people who provide VPN Service. Its your call

I have been using my WRT54GL since the first day of installation smile.gif My IPTV is connected to the VDSL tongue.gif

VDSL you can edit the modem to untag VLAN 500. For those who are using Fibre to Home FTTH , we can't even access our box. So you'll have to 'haxx' WRT54GL for it to work with it .

Asking for some advice here, whats the best router to use for Unifi? With the least amount of extra modification and configuration.

The router they provided is getting worse shakehead.gif. Can't even surf net properly unless I use wired connection.

I have done some research and it seems that TP-Link routers are recommended. Which model is the best? Need to install custom firmware? Some posts in this topic noted that there is a Unifi sticker on the box, implying that you can straight away use their default firmware, yet Klseet site includes custom firmware for download.  rclxub.gif

ASUS RT12N , its not bad router. I mean it has easy QoS and works great with UniFi. I would recommend that . If you are looking for cheap and cheerful router

So I heard that the reason we can't just use any router is due to the VLAN tagging for IPTV. What if I decide to discard (aka. not use) IPTV? Means I won't connect the cable from the IPTV set top box to the router.

Can I use other routers in this case?

Both Internet and IPTV are 'tagged'. You need a router which can untag these packets or that understands VLAN tagging. Not all routers do this. However having said that if you have TM's D-link router you could use it as a 'switch' which acts as a VLAN untagger which untags VLAN500 which allows you to use any router out there !
