i am also using this it works great. Just a reminder signal sux doesnt mean the router sux it could be you are lack of expertist or assumption regarding the router or networking field.

1 example interferance with other signal like cordless phones
Solid wall obstruction
Weak WIFI receiver
Blind Spot

Hey I found a thread made concerning TL-WR1043ND with OpenWRT

And it seems that he managed to make the router work using IPTV (UNIFI)

My TP-Link TL-WR1043ND OpenWRT setup for UniFi, UniFi and IPTV working

Fixing that is quite easy. Also, you don't need that line anymore, as unifi has changed their method for identifying IPTV, no need to set the port priority to 1 anymore. Anyhow I'm impressed that someone managed to find the magic command to set port priority to 1. I've been looking for it for ages, but then TM made it unnecessary, haha.

If you insist, add that line to /etc/rc.local. Alternatively, login to the web interface, go to System > Startup. Scroll down, add that line to startup before 'exit 0'. It works because /etc/rc.local is executed only after every single one of the scripts in the boot procedure are done.

Of course, the line I'm talking about is this one.
CODE
vconfig set_egress_map eth0.600 0 1

It should work even after reboot.

Finally, I'd rather replace the line containing "config 'interface' 'iptv" and below it with this.

CODE
config 'interface' 'iptv'
option 'ifname' 'eth0.600'
option 'type' 'bridge'
option 'proto' 'none'
option 'auto' '1'

It's so that the router doesn't grab an IP from their server, because there's no need for it.

EDIT: Underlined the important parts.

EDIT2: Hopefully someone made a proper guide lol. I'm not good at writing one.

If you wanna buy tp link 1043 model, no worries it is easy to setup just click unifi mode in the router GUI. The discussion on Open WRT or DD-WRT is for custom firmware. Factory firmware for this model is alright.

If you want, I CAN precompile the whole OpenWRT firmware with the relevant settings so that all you can do is flash and go. Just say if you want it.

I'm giving you guys a trunk build (r30366). I've tested this to be stable for at least 15 days. Power went out so I'm back to 0h on my router's uptime. Wireless is excellent, I've been able to get max speed for wireless-n.

I've also included one or two interesting packages if you guys ever want to check it out (will require ssh) like,
znc
iftop

Well, I can't remember what else.

Finally, here's the link. Enjoy!
sysupgrade is for upgrading a previous openwrt firmware.
factory is for upgrading from stock image.

http://www.mediafire.com/?9bkdf4fnpymong6
New version (r30770+miniupnpd patch) .Bear in mind that you cannot install additional softwares from my build, either by the web interface or by using opkg install. Please use the official release (Backfire 10.03.1) for extra customizations. I'm just providing this for those who wants an instant unifi.
http://www.mediafire.com/?6y1g8fach2jjuji

I didn't test the image first as I don't have a spare device but there's no reason for it to not work. Still, use it at your own risk.

So, how do we use this?

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1...sy.installation

Finally, login to the router, change the password for the login, then go to Network tab > Interface tab > press the Edit button at the line containing WAN. That's where you can set your unifi username and password. Press Save and Apply to continue.

Oversight on my part but UPnP is disabled by default, so you'll have to enable it manually. It's at the tab Services > UPNP > Tick the first 3 boxes, press save and apply.

I'm gonna compile a new one later.

Hmm, if you want to do usb storage, it's a bit complicated. I'll also prepare a new image later this week that should allow hard disks to idle properly, and also enable upnp by default, and finally, prepare a proper guide to mount a USB. Sorry that it ain't plug and play.

Anybody using OpenWRT can share how is the bandwith control on it?

I used to use DD WRT on 1043ND but choose to go back to factory fw since the QoS on the factory one is more suitable for managing bandwith/user as it use ip as the parameter to allocate the bandwith.

How about OpenWRT?

bro,
just a question on how to revert back to the original firmware. Can i just used 1 of the firmware listed here: http://www.tp-link.com.my/support/download...del=TL-WR1043ND ?
I've download all the firmware there and it's in the format or xxxupxxx, which is not xxxbootxxx, so do i still needa do the cutting?

which is written on the wiki given that "Cut the first 0x20200 (that is 131,584 = 257*512) Bytes from original firmware:"

what will happen if i never or over-cut it?? just a pre-caution b4 i try on ur firmware..

thanks..

No cutting if there's no boot in the name. Also, once you got the firmware, change it to a shorter name like, say, code.bin and to flash back to factory, scp into the router, place code.bin into /tmp and do this

CODE

mtd -e firmware -r write /tmp/code.bin firmware

OpenWrt has no easy user interface for allocating bandwidth per IP (aka, you can say, quota management?) There's the alternative though, that is, gargoyle routers, which is based on OpenWRT, that is capable of limiting traffic based on the rules.

Apart from that, if you really want to use OpenWrt and still manage bandwidth/user, you'd have to learn tc and linux scripting. Not to scare you, but be prepared to spend a week to learn it.

No cutting if there's no boot in the name. Also, once you got the firmware, change it to a shorter name like, say, code.bin and to flash back to factory, scp into the router, place code.bin into /tmp and do this

CODE

mtd -e firmware -r write /tmp/code.bin firmware

All right for my quoted post below, it works with the firmware from http://www.gargoyle-router.com. It has quota management and a more advanced QoS GUI but it lacks the more powerful features that openwrt has, like multiwan, insanely good firewall config gui, etc. Of course, all this can still be edited by the config file in /etc/config, just that you now lack the gui to do it. Also, another thing it's lacking are packages - these will have to be compiled by yourselves.

QUOTE(blindbox @ Feb 19 2012, 08:10 PM)

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Yes but you need to use ssh, of course, you need to port forward and allow dropbear to let you ssh from a remote ip iinm.

The GUI is like 1000 times more advanced than DD-WRT's. So, yes, you can.

SSH is secure shell. SSH encrypts, telnet doesn't. Telnet sends everything in plain text, including your password.

Well, the GUI itself is using http so there's not really any encryption. You can, however, install the https version of luci.

I have a silly question to ask. What are the main benefits of using this open wrt custom firmware as opposed to the klseet Unifi one? Also, if I want to use this open wrt firmware, all I have to do is flash with the file in your post right? Nothing else to do in terms of hardware and software?

whao... GUI also more advance than DD-wrt.. so far i only used stock firmware... since those thing i need can be done on Openwrt's GUI, thinks gonna flash it soon and will feedback on it once done...

thanks...

yup i need SSH/telnet over to the router itself so that i can telnet to all my internal devices... unless i PAT it out... but having an alternative is better then having none.. smile.gif

Has anyone here successfully setup DDNS?
I'm not using any custom firmware, the firmware version is :
3.13.4 Build 110429

I registered an account on no-ip, and I've already placed all the details required(username/pass/domain name) but the connection status
is still 'Connecting..'

Anything else I need to do to get it properly connected?

Alright, I'll reboot the router once I get home.
Need DDNS to access web ui for my usenet client so I can easily add my download link from anywhere
Just found out how to actually use usenet to download anything for free rclxm9.gif

Btw, what's really the advantage of openwrt over tp link firmware?
I take it you've successfully flash back and forth for both firmware?
I'm just afraid I'll brick my router sweat.gif

Paste your /etc/config/uhttpd here (preferrably pastebin). Settings for uhttpd are not exposed in luci.

Backfire 10.03.1 is the latest. Trunk are for people who compile themselves.

Get WinSCP, login to the router, grab the file /etc/config/uhttpd. Alternatively, get putty, ssh and login, then
CODE

cd ..
cat /etc/config/uhttpd

Paste to me what comes out.

EDIT: Ignore above, I got an easier way.

SSH into your router, login, copy pasta.

CODE

cd ..
uci add_list uhttpd.main.listen_https=0.0.0.0:443
uci commit
/etc/init.d/uhttpd restart

Ahhh that's a bug unfortunately. I'll find a workaround for it. For now, https won't work. So to fix things up,

CODE

uci delete uhttpd.main.listen_https
uci commit
/etc/init.d/uhttpd restart

I'm wondering, what openwrt version are you using?

Lol, should've mentioned that earlier. I didn't enable luci-ssl on that one. I'll prepare another build today.

All the builds I've built are unable to use the opkg system, please bear that in mind.

Yep, seems like they changed a lot of things. Last time they gave six dnses to free users, then two, now only 1.

http://dyn.com/dns/dyndns-pro-free-trial/

Just check your router, see what DDNS services they support, and use those, apart from dyndns. RIP, dyndns free service.

I think you have to put in a credit card for the free trial right? Damn mah fan.

Anyway if one insists on using dyn.com. Just sign up for a free account, no CC needed, at dlinkddns.com. You can use the same login for dyn.com.

@blindbox Have you used the WR841ND? How's the wifi performance of the WR1043ND compared to its cheaper brother? Aside from the GB lan ports, are there any other differences? Amount of ram, cpu?

I don't have a WR841ND. If I do have one, I prolly can't do much with it, as I really need the 8 MB flash. As wireless performance go, should be the same if it also has 3 antennae. It should still be the same even with two, but range is less with two antennae. WR841ND has two antennae it seems.

Gotta remind yourself that my views are a bit irrelevant as I only use openwrt. I never stick with stock tongue.gif

EDIT: not sure about the credit card for free trial. I have an old dyndns account that still works though, it's still pointing to my home router. Gonna have to change it later. Freedns seems interesting.

u may want save the page to your local harddrive , as the site sometime got limited bandwitdh due to too many access. wink.gif

but you need to becareful when you use openwrt, read the step few times before you apply, because i have bricked 2 941ND before because my itchy hand to disturb some setting that i dont know.

but openwrt is very flexible and it is worth to spend some time to learn it.

Omg klseet, use 10.03.1-final already. rclxub.gif

http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03.1/ar71xx/

Openwrt to openwrt - just use image with the name sysupgrade in it and web interface. Always backup the settings before flashing though (they're both on the same web page). Openwrt to stock - follow the wiki. I'll update the wiki later because it's not complete.

Btw, port forwarding working just fine for me.

Also, I'm so busy right now that I can do most of these stuff only on the weekends, sorry ckboon.

Next plan for my trunk release - implement luci-ssl, implement transmission oh and, ftp server. Samba is already available for those who wants it though. I'm sure ftp can stream too...? Funny because I'm never going to use transmission and ftp. I also want to put my biz5's web account to use but I still got no idea on how for now.
klseet, any pointers on this?

Btw klseet, from your link here, it seems like transmission is clogging up the flash memory? Possible solution is to make a symlink, or use extroot.

As an alternative to using HTTPS to access the GUI, you can also just use an SSH tunnel :

CODE
ssh root@192.168.1.1 -L 8080:127.0.0.1:80

Then just point your browser to http://127.0.0.1:8080 :3

meaning, if i wanna upgrade/downgrade openwrt to openwrt i will just use sysupgrade? if i restore the the trunk from your file will i get the original default setting, or the setting with iptv which had been created?

anyway blindbox, take ur time, i just found out that my NAS HDD DIE!! This might be why suddenly upnp and port forward works weird from openwrt sad.gif

Depends how you do it. If you took my compiled file, and ticked the box that tells you to reset everything after flashing, it will go back to the settings with iptv created. If you took openwrt's official images, and do the same thing as the previous sentence, it will go back to openwrt's default i.e. no vlans configured at all.

Busy la bro, been a while didn't test OpenWRT since the last RC4/5 ..... last night started to re-test again, so blur-blur thought still RC, so just grab the bottom one RC6, honestly didn't notice the final was released laugh.gif

Guess it's time to test & document the reset procedure then re-test on the final release ....

Previously, for ftp I tested the vsftpd ok no problem. But for the Transmission, I remembered initially was ok, just that Transmission is quite hungry suck most CPU power, after some tests (also forgot what I did) the Transmission keep eating up the flash memory size until "no space left" error and the router freeze/crash/re-start ...

Ya later I read somewhere about the extroot thing, trust me, being a part-time-beginner, my whole head wet sweat.gif sweat.gif may be you can show me more layman term on how to setup nod.gif

Not sure whether new build/release fix it, may need to find time to test again .... but I don't really feel like putting the Transmission on this 400Mhz cpu with 32MB ram size again, also worry the swap space might not fast enough, it's just too hungry ...

With regards to my guide on the USB here:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...d=103&Itemid=95

I re-visit & test recently, seem like I'm unable to mount the external USB2 HDD properly, fstab & swap space seem ok, but can't see the main storage /mnt/sda2 under df -k
which I'm now thinking this could possible cause my Transmission "no space left" issue, I'm suspecting it could be combination issues with build/partition layout/mount point/packages/etc ....

I'll find some time this weekend to re-run/test again on latest final build, will post the steps once result confirmed.

Guys, after upgrading to OpenWRT firmware from TP link firmware, do I have to setup or install anything else?

I'm thinking of getting OpenWRT since I just can't get my router to enable ddns since it keeps getting stuck at 'connecting..' ever after I restart it several times.

Should I reset it?

you can use firmware from blindbox which just need to enter your user name and password
or if you use OpenWrt standard image, you can follow https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=49570563

i will said yes, because it support VLAN configure just like 1043 ND i think you can follow the same configuration
as in https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=49570563

but i dont think is a good idea, as dlink 825 cost u 340RM and 1043nd only 150, do you want to burn the money for something similar?

You're right it doesn't work. I'll see what I can do with it.

VLANs follows the IEEE's vlan standard, i.e. you can do vlan 1-4096.

EDIT: I found out that freedns just doesn't work right now. It's a bug that openwrt is currently having.

i've found a solution for freedns (afraid.org) to update the ip everytime the WAN unplugged/plugged or modem reboot.

at this office rite now, so no screenshot. sorry guys.. so heres the step:

assuming ur at the MYDDNS TAB:

1. Service - Select CUSTOM
-after select CUSTOM OPTION, automatically the below OPTION become CUSTOM UPDATE-URL

2. Go to http://freedns.afraid.org/dynamic/ and u will see ur own hostname there eg: ahlong.smokeganja.org
- see the Direct URL button? point ur mouse there and copy the entire URL and put it in the CUSTOM UPDATE-URL field at ur modem.
- this because afraid.org changed their update ipaddress using a unic hash sums for user.

3. Hostname - ur previous hostname

4. Passwd - urs not mine (haha)

5. Source of IPaddress - Interface

6. Interface - WAN (pppoe-wan)

Others leave it to default

7. Save & Apply

then try reboot ur modem and check back the IP address.

Sorry for the long explaination. Will try to take a screenshot tonite at home.

hope u guys understand my step? haha?

For PPPoE IP change scripts, you can also manually script the trigger in '/etc/ppp/ip-up'. The script will run whenever your PPPoE session goes up and you get an IP address.. I use this for my pppoe-wan interface traffic control scripts :3

Just don't? Regardless, it's quite simple actually, just port forward ALL ports by typing in 1-65535 into the forward box, and put it at the bottom of the sort list. The list is hierarchical, packets that goes through follows the top rules first.

It's under Network > Firewall > Port Forward btw.

EDIT: Bloody hell, but blindbox here, hate it when people don't log off on my computer.

That's strange, I still got couples of those 2 free DynDNS since the early free day, even about a year ago when they cut-down to 1 free account which I also registered few, all are still working no problem.

Some of my accounts disabled mostly due to I didn't update the IP for more than 3 months, and that's written clearly by DynDNS.

Also, about a year ago, I noticed Singapore StarHub suddenly cannot update any DynDNS, later switch to SingTel was ok, strange though ....

So just to make sure you update/refresh the IP regularly/automatically, most router/NAS has such function.

Great stuff bro.

Now, the only problem now is that updating openwrt is going to be a pain. There's the opkg upgrade command to update all your packages when you update openwrt though. Good thing is that their development cycle is like yearly.

I'd brought this router with unifi sticker on the box, so setup was quite easy. The only problem is that when ever i bound a specific MAC to IP address, I cant connect to internet, wired or wireless except the single pc that I used to setup the router. The goal is to set a fix IP on a certain pc so that I can map drive from others.

I don't really understand the purpose of bind function, but I couldn't find any other way to set fix IP in TL-WR1043ND.

But this is fresh setup and I don't change anything other than 'physically' change the router. Currently all my pcs are connected to LAN and given dynamic automatic IP which is 192.168.1.XXX. Why I cant use the same IP no as fix manually assign IP

ok.. I rephrase from the beginning

My goal: to set fix IP address for my kids pc
My reason: to set rules (parental monitoring) on this IP and to map my kid's HDD on my pc
My problem: My kids IP keep changing
My solution: reserved the same IP (currently on dynamic mod) to my kids MAC address pc. Otherwise the monitored IP might change to my wife's pc and defeat the idea of monitoring my kid's pc activities

TL-WR1043ND problem:

QUOTE
Cannot add new Address Reservation

Error code: 26106
The IP address is not in the same subnet with LAN IP address.

My step: follow the unifi setup provided by the manual. All pcs are connected to LAN and have access to internet
My question: Upon checking the note under Network LAN help note no.2
QUOTE
If the new LAN IP address you set is not in the same subnet with the previous one, the IP Address pool in the DHCP server will be configured automatically,

This note imply that i have change LAN IP thus the error code 26106 happen. If I make a fresh setup without altering any IP, how can not in the same subnet and previous one become a problem. What is previous setting that trigger the 'not in the same subnet' error. Are TL-WR1043ND still carry setting from DIR-616 made by TM.

ok... first thing first... tplink and TM DIR-615 are two different thing. They totally have no relation and all. Hence TPLINK won't know what setting u have in DLINK. I will explain it more in detail later as I am quite busy with some of my workload at the moment.. smile.gif

ok lets start to solve your problem here...

Firstly you wanna give a fixed IP to your son PC. You can do it by assigning a fix IP to the MAC address from 1043, or just set it on the PC itself. For me I will used the address reservation from 1043, and all my devices will be set to run on DHCP. This can ease my management job. Since you have successfully assigned the IP through Address Reservation, then just continue on the next step.

Next, try to manage and limit how you wan ur 1043 runs as a DHCP server. Exclude all the reserved IP from the DHCP list to avoid IP conflict.

eg: U wanna fix 5 devices IP 192.168.1.11-15, then your DHCP should start from 192.168.1.16 or above.

Hope the above solution clear your doubt...

Now comes to ur 2nd question:
I dont understand the meaning of "follow the unifi setup provided by the manual", sorry to say that I don't even know it has a manual. What I did is very straight forward, and I don't use the "quick setup" but instead i set it up manually using "Network>Wan and select unifi"
and for the "Network -> LAN" help, like i mention before, it's just a precaution to let you know, if you change the LAN IP to others IP subnet, 1043 itself will automatically help u change the range of the dhcp range as well..

possible if you provide some screenshot so that I can have a clear picture on what really happen to ur configuration

forgot the webGUI for TPLink already
but did u key-in ur unifi passwd correctly?
or u can use the firmware from klseet
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...=116&Itemid=107

shud be no problem if u're using the new firmware flashed by TPLink centre.. maybe u missed typed ur unifi passwd?

eg:

login: ahlong@unifi
passwd: ahlOngKaiSekFan (ur generated password)

if still failed, try to flashed the firmware using klseet website

first thing you should try is to reset your router back to factory default

login to you webgui, goto system tools/factory defaults and click restore.

first you need to login to 192.168.1.1
then you go to wireless/wireless security
then select WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK
you can leave version and Encryption as "automatic"

you can enter your PSK password, should 8 to 63 character, you may need to reboot your router once you are done.

if you are using windows 7, search from internet with "Manage Wireless Networks" to guide you how to setup wireless connection with windows 7.

I think mine is also having wlan problem. I just got this a week ago. The signal seems to get weaker and weaker and eventually, my computer can't even connect to it. A reboot of the router solves it for a while.

I'll ask TP-LINK support.

Well well... this might just be the answer I'm looking for.
If you see my thread here:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2294143

Those who are complaining about the dropouts are actually the ones connected to the 1043ND, and like you said, a reboot solves it for a while. They also get the 'slow loading page' problem (which may or may not be related to the 1043ND).

Mine is not flashed with the Unifi FW though.

2. Yes

3. Yes but you need to use ssh, of course, you need to port forward and allow dropbear to let you ssh from a remote ip iinm.

After changing my router to TP-Link TL-WR1043ND for my UniFi, which was easy to setup.

i believe you can actually just skip the CD, plus it was already version 1.8.
1. i connected the power and the lan cable to my PC.
2. run the CD, and after that, it didn't work, no internet.
3. load directly into the web browser to access the router web-gui.
4. have to change it MANUALLY to UNIFI MODE.
5. key in username/password and...
6. VOILA! Lock and Load in less than 10min.

i also brought from coolstore three 9dBi iSigal antenna to replace the stock ones.

apparently,
the antenna connected nicely to the router but its angling point (the part where its rotatable and also give the antenna "degree's" control is quite lose. if the router is on its feet then its alright, but like mine which was hang onto the wall, i have to use the cable tie to hold so it can point to a certain degree.

what i am trying to achieve is left & right antenna is 45 degree's and the center one is 90 degree's, since accordingly, the omni directional is like a donut rather than a ball. correct me if i am wrong. i don't think i can fully utilize the full capacity of the antenna yet as i still trying to get the correct degree angle for it. you can see it clearly in the picture.

here is a how the router is position:

i am a noob at networking so if i miss out anything important or i did something not correct, do tell. this is just a simple test of connectivity using:
~ TP-Link TL-WR1043ND
~ TP-Link TL-WR1043ND + iSigal 9dBi Antenna (x3)

the results is using a wifi test app on my samsung note. the bar is the wifi strength indication app (one to six). please bear in mind the result dBi is taken at its average point.

Point A: kitchen
~ TP-Link -82 (two to three bar)
~ iSigal 9dBi -82 (two bar)

Point B: living room
~ Dir-615 -85dBi (one bar)
~ TP-Link -70 (three bar)
~ iSigal 9dBi -77 (three bar)

Point C: 5 feet from main door
~ TP-Link -84 (two bar)
~ iSigal 9dBi -80 (three bar)

Point D: 5 feet from router.
~ TP-Link -40 (five bar)
~ iSigal 9dBi -40 (six bar)

Point E: one floor directly above router.
~ TP-Link -54 (four bar)
~ iSigal 9dBi -60 (four bar)

additional:
directly one floor under the router.
~ iSigal 9dBi -66 (three bar)

10cm from router
~ iSigal 9dBi -9 (six bar)

streaming online naruto has noticeable improvements comparing to DIR-615 to TP-LINK+iSigal Antenna's. there is a noticeable increase buffered amount and time needed it to load all. browsing internet has some improvements as well, as to/fro request seems to cut by half the time.

the dead spots that the DIR-615 wasn't able to cover is now reachable, but slightly better only. at least now it loads webpages.

the connectivity has been better, though it is not as great as i would have expected, i would say *subjectively* that the connectivity and speed improvement is around 15-30%.

will try to provide more updates.

Hi All,

I had been using 1043ND for almost a year already without any issue. Flashed with the latest DD-WRT, and no problem with connection. Using DIR615 as my bridge... I setup to reboot once a week to refresh, and during the whole week, I do not experience any degradation at all. No signal drop, no such thing as cannot connection, P2P works like normal, and also on 24 x 7...

signal works ok with the standard unit. Can covers my whole house (double storey).

Thanks.

HELP!!! nowaday very often my connection just disconnected after i've dumped my tplink with openwrt few month back, but this just happen recently..
each and everytime this happen i need to power off/on my unit to get back the connection..

i've upgrade to backfire and still face the same problem..

was just wondering is it unifi problem or my unit itself having problem either on the openwrt or the hardware

below are the screenshoot after disconnection and log:

regarding the said issue which i posted few days ago. Just hope my solution work for you guys if you faced the same problem.

firstly I've pulled out the WAN from 1043D and plug it back after 3mins. And the connection of PPPoE was established. But I am still doubting about it and I restarted the fiber modem, then I went to sleep. lol..

till today i haven't get the disconnection issue again, and the link had been up for almost 3days.

seem like it's the WAN connection to the fiber modem is giving the problem as it had not been restarted since last year smile.gif.

well, hopefully it will solve my problem and i will feedback again in the next few days.

hence you guys can just try to plug out and plug back the WAN, or restart the fiber modem, or do both, as I dunno which solve the problem since i did both at the same time.

I think mine is also having wlan problem.  I just got this a week ago.  The signal seems to get weaker and weaker and eventually, my computer can't even connect to it.  A reboot of the router solves it for a while.

I'll ask TP-LINK support.
*
Hi guys, I would like to provide some progress updates here.

Since this post above, I called up the toll-free support line of TP-LINK. But after explaining the problem to the support personnel for a while, I decided that I didn't want to continue anymore and instead will pay a visit to the service center.

So I did on the same day.

I had a new unit exchanged, and flashed with the UNIFI firmware.

Once at home, I had it configured, and with a USB storage attached to it too. First day was good; second day was a Monday so I went to work and came back but after a few minutes of using my computer connected to its WLAN, the entire unit hanged. The unit had been up for about 2-day. What happened was that the SYS light on the unit didn't blink periodically, it didn't light up at all. IPTV wasn't working - the TV channel screen froze with a picture (NTV7 at time).

So I unplugged the USB storage stick and restarted the unit since Monday night. It's been the 6th days now and it seems to be still working fine. Hopefully it'll stay that way...

Have a great day guys.

no need 2hrs the link is down again after revert back to original firmware..

hmmm... seem like it's not the openwrt problem anyway...

now i've narrow down the search..

it might be the tplink itself is having problem or the fiber modem.. gonna change back to dir-615 soon and see the result..

The scheduled reboot is available in DD-WRT. Don't think it exist in the original firmware.

My 1043ND had been up to 6 days without any reboot, and same goes to my unifi connection too. Had been using the same IP and connection for the last 6 days too. Tonight my router will reboot based on the weekly schedule.

With so many units sold, I am sure most of them should be ok or else this model will not be recommended by so many users. Can't explain why some people got those issue though.

For all those using the TL-WR1043ND, whether you're facing the problems or not, perhaps it would be helpful if you could describe the following to help our fellow brothers here to identify their problems. Please provide as much detail as you can.

1. Current Streamyx/Unifi Package?

2. Exact firmware Ver No.? (Please provide direct link to the site if possible, it does not really helped if you just mentioned DD-WRT, OpenWRT etc. you need to provide the exact built number)

3. General usage of internet? (Just surfing? Torrent? Streaming? Gaming? All of the above? 24/7?)

4. Direct connection with cable to the router or Wireless?

5. If Wireless, what's the approximate distance between your PC and the Router? Which model of USB Adapter? PCI-Adapter? In-built adapter?

6. How many users using the router? (Again, please provide how many are those direct connect or wireless and how many of those are facing problems)

7. What kind of disconnection are you talking about? Internet disconnect? Disconnection between BTU and Router? Disconnection between PC and Router?

8. What are the problematic symptoms you're facing? Just disconnection? Slow browsing after a certain time? Bad signal? Etc?

9. This list is not exhaustive so feel free to add anything else you think may help.

Maybe those who don't have problems with the router are light users?
Mine is on 24/7, max number of clients is 12 or thereabouts. Always get that wifi problem. A reboot solves it long enough for everyone to do whatever they wanna do before the next reboot. laugh.gif

Just noticed this. I had this problem as well, I thought someone hacked into the router and changed the password. I solved it by doing a hard reset.. had to configure everything all over again.

i think the stock firmware is having this problem regardless which version, as i've tested the stock from the box, tplink site firmware as well as klseet site.

Runs on 2 different units and both also have this problem, that's why i switched over to openwrt.

1. UNIFI VIP5

2. no exact firmware. OK this is the linked of all the Openwrt I've tried and faced the problem:

http://www.mediafire.com/?6y1g8fach2jjuji
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.0...-sysupgrade.bin
and for stock firmware i've tested it on: http://www.tp-link.com.my/Resources/softwa..._V1_1100906.zip

3. surfing, torrent (not much but running on NAS 24/7 for uploading), gaming, 24/7

4. Wired

6. All wired, but only 1 PC, sometimes whatapp for my handphone, NAS, Media Player, Astro

7. Internet disconnection, WAN gone missing from openwrt status. Yes Disconnected from BTU to router. Need to uplug and plug back WAN connection cable to reestablish the connection.

8. Just disconnection! Happy with the rest.

9 Do let me know if you need further detail smile.gif

nothing other than manual power off/on the unit.

it's consider a bug. I've even emailed to TPLINK support and they seem like don't even wanna entertain my concern regarding this matter and just closed the case!

Openwrt will solve this problem.

@ckboon, have you tried doing a hard reset and then try to flash with this: http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.0...hfs-factory.bin instead of using the upgrade version?

Is BTU still working properly when you're suffering from all these disconnection? In any case, it doesn't explain why you're unable to access the router webgui after some time. So irregardless of whether you're using OEM firmware or OpenWRT, these same problems will arise but OpenWRT only seem to solve the router webgui issue?

It's weird seeing that you're having issues using a direct connection while there are many users complaining about wifi dropouts when connecting wirelessly. I figure you're attaching the NAS to the usb port of the router? Ever tried running the router without using anything on the USB port?

err... I think you get some of the stuff wrong here.. Let me start from the scratch...

there's actually 1 problem arise that made me switch to Openwrt, which is I can't access to my unit URL after a certain period of time which is very inconsistent whereas it can range from 30mins to 3 days(the max i get). For the forum it seem like it's a command problem for tplink firmware (UNIFI ver only?) since they are some members getting the same effect, and I got 2 unit of 1043 which runs on different location too facing this problem. Hence I switch to Openwrt. I've install the stock from blindbox first trunk edition, and it's working like a charm for more than 2 months, and i can access to my unit URL whenever I want even after 1 months or 2 months running it 24/7. Only recently the disconnection from WAN (PPPoE) keep arising. Once it's disconnected, I can't do anything as you can see from my previous post, it shows a (?) sign. I need to pull and re-connected back the WAN to get the link up. It's very annoying when this happen so many times when I was gaming. So the next thing I do is upgrade to backfire. *** I only know that I can upgrade from openwrt firmware to openwrt and not install the full, so i just upgraded it, but I still faced the same problem, and I switch to blindbox latest trunk and still the same.

I got no choice but to revert back my firmware to tplink stock, and just within 2 hrs the connection drop again. But then i rebooted my whole units and the connection is up till now which is 2 days with the same IP without any problem, but I am suspecting a disconnection very very soon smile.gif

my tplink is just pure router switch wireless usage. I don't plug in usb and setup a print server. I got a hw NAS which is configure with transmission and can support Raid0/1 and running on giga speed.

just in-case u cant find the image.. i will just repost it with the log on Openwrt

**** the image shown is before i unplug the WAN connection..

The link just drop like tat.. and look at the log..
Seem like my unit cannot find any active link and just terminate the whole connection

For all those using the TL-WR1043ND, whether you're facing the problems or not,  perhaps it would be helpful if you could describe the following to help our fellow brothers here to identify their problems. Please provide as much detail as you can.

Do you work with TPLINK?

1. Current Streamyx/Unifi Package?
Unifi VIP20

2. Exact firmware Ver No.?
Not UNIFI firmware. TL-WR1043ND_V1_110429.

3. General usage of internet?
Surfing, PPSHIT, Gaming.. basically everything common for students

4. Direct connection with cable to the router or Wireless?
Wireless. No chance for wired since the router is high up on the wall.

5. If Wireless, what's the approximate distance between your PC and the Router?
Distance is good enough to get 5 bars or just 4. Not relevant.

6. How many users using the router?
Around 12 clients.

7. What kind of disconnection are you talking about? Internet disconnect? Disconnection between BTU and Router? Disconnection between PC and Router?
-

8. What are the problematic symptoms you're facing? Just disconnection? Slow browsing after a certain time? Bad signal? Etc?
- Can connect but limited connection, can't surf and all.
- Cannot connect to the router despite the SSID being visible and full bars.
- Very slow loading of pages all of a sudden
- Signal strength suddenly dropping
- Sudden disconnect from router, then can't reconnect
*When I tried with DDWRT last time (can't remember which build), the SSID would suddenly disappear after long periods without a reboot. This might be related to DDWRT itself though...

The solution is simple, just reboot the router. After my last hard reset I have yet to encounter the 'cannot login to router GUI' problem.

I use the 1043ND as an AP (wired to gateway). The gateway is WR941ND. There is also a WA901ND (wired as well) connected to the gateway. The clients connected to 941ND and 901ND do not have the said issues.

After my last hard reset I have yet to encounter the 'cannot login to router GUI' problem.

hmmm... seem like then it's not only unifi firmware having the problem of unable to access to 1043 config URL, since you unit is acting as an AP only and don't dump with unifi firmware.

Can, but don't count on it. It's not reliable as a repeater. Use Broadcom based routers for best results. 1043ND is Atheros..

I have two WR1043ND, both running the same OpenWRT firmware.

One of them has rock stable wifi despite the amount of tx errors that sometimes pop out (easily remedied by telling the router to restart the wifi every night). Another is unstable despite using the same firmware as the stable one. My gut tells me that if it fails even with OpenWRT, RMA it.

Anyway, I did say that I'm going to upload yet another build. I'm going to remember it, I have the firmware ready, just need to press the upload button once I get home.

It's hard to compare broadcom with Atheros, before you spout out any accusation. Broadcom is stuck with proprietary, you're stuck with vendor firmware most of the time and you can only do repeater with broadcom-to-broadcom, most of the time, of identical devices too. Somewhere else on other part of the world, people have set up a wireless mesh with a bunch of Atheros devices easily, vendor interchangeable.

Atheros improves over time in the open-source community (for fans like me), while broadcom is stagnant over there. In terms of stock firmwares, it's just in my opinion that WR1043ND's might not be as good as Buffalo (Buffalo is especially good) or Netgear. I've got my fair share of sucky broadcom routers however there are good ones. ASUS's broadcom models are worth mentioning. Linksys hasn't been trying to compete spec-wise, I don't know why. They're just riding the cisco brand name.

Broadcom is no way a viable alternative for an OpenWRT user. I'd just say if you wanna go WR1043ND, go OpenWRT, apply the settings I posted a couple of pages ago, set up a cronjob to restart the wifi every 5 AM.

Networking equipments are suppose to be running competently 24/7. If you need to restart it regularly just to have a problem-free operation then something is definitely wrong somewhere.

The true test of how good a router is depends on how long it can operate without facing issues. I have an old Buffalo WHR-G54S and a Linksys WRT54G wifi router (yes, both with Broadcom chipset) flashed with Tomato firmware whose performance is nothing but ROCK SOLID all these years even though running 24/7. You can throw anything at it and it has never falter. Connection uptime is a few months at least before change of IP which even then is no fault of the router. With these kind of reliability, I don't know what else needs to be improved.

With the WR1043ND however, I have seen a fair share of complaints even if it's flashed with the default firmware, DD-WRT or OpenWRT. I'm starting to think the physical design itself may be faulty.

As they say... speak of the devil!

Anyways despite the issues I still purchased another 2 units of 1043ND (pre-flashed with Unifi firmware) recently to be the gateway for another 2 Unifi accounts. Replaced the antennas with TL-ANT2408C (8dBi) as well.
Got them up and running today and gonna post my findings, if any.

The last time I had this problem was that it's unifi's fault not the router's. My connection has been rock-stable though.

What do you mean by 'unplugging' the WAN connection? did you take out the cable on the router and put it back in, or did you plug out the fiber wire from the modem and put it back in? Lack of info here methinks. There's always the probability of you getting a bad unit.

Speaking of which then, I'm going to write a mini-guide on how to revert back to factory firmware soon.

i will uplug the WAN connection from tplink 1043ND and then plug it back again.

how did u resolve this problem last time? call up unifi? I an actually suspecting unifi fault since I've tested on so many different firmware and still getting the same problem. And I am planning to put in the DLINK if my last connection disconnected, but today is the 4th day and the unit is still up.

Anyway, I will reflash back to OPENWRT once you uploaded ur latest trunk.

cheer..

just to add on how i reflash back to stock..

just download any official firmware from tplink filename must contain the word "up". Then just flash it back like how we flash from stock to openwrt.

That's how i do.

^If it's UNIFI problem it doesn't really explain why you're unable to login to the router though.

I take it you did clear NVRAM before and after every flash right?

-.-

the login page problem is definitely tplink fault..

what i am referring to is the WAN lose connection in a sudden.

Bloody hell, I can't login to one router already! (I have turned off the other one earlier due to some non related issue)
The older one however (used as an AP and not gateway) is fine... for now.

Could be Telekom or could be TP-Link. Did you try swapping back with the default router given by Telekom for monitoring?

Regarding the unable to login issue, I am pretty sure it's not TM's fault because there is no such problem on WR841ND (I use 2 of them on two VIP20 accounts) and TM's DIR615.
If the problem is from TM's end, surely the problem won't exist when I use the 1043ND as a mere AP and not gateway.

Anyways I just turned on the other new 1043ND that I mentioned earlier. Connection is up and running but no one will be using it... gonna see how it goes.

This is the setup of the other 1043ND that is having the login problem:
1043ND (gateway) <----wired----> WA901ND (AP)
<----wired----> WA901ND (AP)

Setup of the older units:
WR841ND (gateway) <---wired----> 1043ND (AP)
<----wired----> WA901ND (AP)
*The same setup applies to another floor, both have had the login problem but so far I've yet to encounter them again. Uptime however is not impressive, most of the time I checked, less than 1 day... sweat.gif this is because I told the users to restart the router if there is a connection problem.

Hello all,

I have manage to set up my TL-WR1043ND on OpenWRT and it is all working properly when connecting the IPTV directly to the said router.

The problem I am having now is I have only one (CAT 5E, CAT 6??) cable running from upper floor to lower floor and I have a media player which also require a direct connection to the router.

I am thinking of alternative connection making use of the original router (DIR-615) as shown in the schematic below.

user posted image

How could I configure the 2 routers to work as above?

Help appreciated.

Thank you.

hmmm... from what i know, you needa pull 2 cat5/6, 1 for IPtv and 1 for normal vlan500, as there's no trunk port on the router, but you can configure vlan500 and vlan600 manually on both dlink and openwrt.

so tis will be my recommendation

openwrt vlan 500 - dlink vlan 500 - media player

openwrt vlan 600 - dlink vlan 600 - iptv

unless there's an option to configure trunk port for both dlink and openwrt, then 1 cable should be enough

That is an idea and thanks for the info. Perhaps, I could custom one myself at home. From what I know, the LAN connection only use 4 of 8 wires within each cable. So technically, I could have 2 LAN ports through the same CAT 5/6 cable.

Likewise, I agree that the TL-WR1043ND is one of the best router around.

I nearly brick my router (due to some itchy hand trying to set the Vlan to run two ports through one cable; so be very careful) and have been doing a lot of reading to save the router. It would seem to me that the TL-WR1043ND is the MOST referred router in OpenWRT site/forum/wiki/community. Kudos to that!!! rolleyes.gif

The only thing which I could find some complain is the WiFi which seem a bit weak compared to my old router (Netgear).

p.s. I gain some understanding on how Vlan work from the extensive reading. In general, do not make any changes to Vlan1 interface and you will be able to gain access to the router. While OpenWRT provides very good GUI for Vlan and bridging interface, there seem to be some bugs in it which was mentioned on quite a few threads/tickets within the OpenWRT community. With this in mind, should I have not purchase the TL-WR1043ND router, I am more likely to choose the Mikrotic RB751G-2HnD or RB751U-2HnD instead. Forget about Asus, simply too expensive.

if u guys facing this problem later, maybe resetting the router to factory openwrt and reconfigure it back will help..

Bad signal? Etc?

9. This list is not exhaustive so feel free to add anything else you think may help.

worse thing u will brick your router. But if you follow step from http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...id=98&Itemid=92

nothing will go wrong. But if you try something extra(just like me who bricked 2 of it ), then you have to be careful to know what you try to do.

if your follow each and every step closely, it's very unlikely for u to brick ur unit, unless u wanna try out something more advance which is not documented, then I can't guarantee.

yes you can reset back from openwrt back to tplink stock firmware and vice versa

i actually recommend you to use blindbox trunk first if u r really new to it as everything had been customize by him.

if u used klseet, you have more freedom on customization.

just try on blindbox trunk, and if you think u need more than that you still can upgrade to backfire, which allow you for further customization.

But do you suffer from any wifi drop-outs with the OpenWRT? I read quite a bit of post about it.

hmm.. actually i am not sure how's the wifi goes as all my main devices are running on wired. Wireless is only used by my handphone.

so far i go no complain on wifi as it not my primary build.

my tplink is showing an uptime of 6 days, but it might be more as i did some restart on the router for some of my configuration.

As from what I say, I don't see any disconnection from the router after my last complain to unifi.

Hi all,

Just a note for those having frequent disconnection issues. I had a similar problem before this. Though I am using TL-WR841N w/ stock firmware with my BIZ5. The problem I had, which according to TM technician, is Fiberhome modem's firmware was outdated and that TM's side has upgraded theirs. The effect of this cause frequent disconnections for me.

Called them, they came to replace my Fiberhome modem(1 to 1 replacement), re-configured the settings for it and haven't had disconnection issues ever since.

I suggest giving TM a call and ask them to replace your Fiber modem and see if it fixes the problem for you.

Cheers.

Is TP Link 1043ND with DD-WRT firmware able to work as a repeater(Non-WDS)? I searched through online and I got different answers...
I know Gargoyle firmware works... but I prefer to use DD-WRT...

I know Gargoyle firmware works... but I prefer to use DD-WRT...

TP Link 1043ND with DD-WRT is WDS not repeater.

Only Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT got repeater.

Last time after a lot of trial and error I managed to get it to work as a repeater (non WDS). It was bloody unstable, so I ditched it. Can't remember the DDWRT version though.
Here's one of the guides:

Repeater never works well in mine too since it was Atheros based
Anyway, now I used powerline and works like a charm

Client Mode works!
I'm successfully running in Client Mode on the 1043 on DD-WRT connected to a non DD-WRT AP
It's stable and sustaining a full 1mbps download.

Just keep in mind client mode does not extend , it just simply allows you to "link" two routers wirelessly , thats about it. It does not boost the signal. WDS boosts the signal and allows roaming (if the client supports it , so it can hop from one AP to another AP)

More than just linking two routers Client Modes creates a separate subnet different from the one created by the primary router/AP

got a quick question,

I just changed to TL-WR1043ND, replacing the stock D-link (orange and white) that was given by Unifi.

i realize only the first few device that connects to the TP-Link router have access to the internet, then once more than 5 devices, it shows limited connections. Unless i use static IP then i can connect, well this solve for my PC and Laptop, but not for HP and other devices.

my DCHP is from 90-190, so there should be ample of space for more than 5 device to connect right?

any solutions please.

Here's some of my short experience using this router:
3.13.5 Firmware
V1.8 Hardware.
Streamyx 1.0mbps

1. Router will hang after 4-5 hours of torrenting. I'm just doing very mild torrenting of 1 torrent at a time, limited to 150 connections per torrent.

2. Download and upgraded to 3.13.12 from website. At first would run even 12hours of torrenting but eventually would hang after maybe 6 hours.

3. Got the latest DD-wrt and flashed it in webui. Now been running for about 24hrs of torrenting without any hiccup. So far so good. Anyway plan to do a reset every 3hrs with DD WRT if it still occurs.

Speeds via Wifi can reach 10MB/s when connected via 300mbps at 10ft. (Using Intel Centrino 6300N card). Not sure I should be happy or not.

Range seems about 3-4 feet further than my oldie WRT54G v7. I'd put my WRT54G at at about 15 feet direct but with 2-3 walls.

Slightly stronger signal at the tail end of the reach also.

Wired connections can reach 30-35MB/s which is kinda expected with my dated hardware but all with Gigabit LAN.

So I'd very much encourage anyone running heavy P2P to give DD-WRT a try.

my streamyx often got latency spike, could this be router's problem or TM? For normal internet use wont feel it much, but for online games then very apparent..

so far tried rebooting router..modem...didnt help also

Bad idea.
WDS only works well with routers that use the same chipset.

If I want to install Openwrt I have to flash to stock firmware first then Openwrt. Is that correct?

after you use gargoyle firmware it's still possible to do vlan tagging you will need to modify the vlan through WinSCP
because there's no vlan tagging setting in gargoyle
i try that before but has been revert back to openwrt smile.gif
sorry i can explain well in this ..well not really good in this kind of stuff

if you are using this router to connect to internet, then vlan tagging is a must unless you already untag the vlan on your BTU.

well i found someone mention it's possible, just for you information.

QUOTE(blindbox @ Feb 26 2012, 10:00 AM)
OpenWrt has no easy user interface for allocating bandwidth per IP (aka, you can say, quota management?) There's the alternative though, that is, gargoyle routers, which is based on OpenWRT, that is capable of limiting traffic based on the rules.

Apart from that, if you really want to use OpenWrt and still manage bandwidth/user, you'd have to learn tc and linux scripting. Not to scare you, but be prepared to spend a week to learn it.

hello guys, i've just got my 1043ND from digital mall this evening. The whole configuration was totally nightmare to me. Firstly, I barely gets into its WEB configuration page. Once I setup with all the information required, I reboot the router for the settings to take place. Once it has done rebooting, I couldn't login to the WEB configuration page again. So, I reset my router and reconfigure again. The whole process repeated for more than 3 hours until I gave TP link a call. Then the lady technician told me that it should be the firmware problem. So I should upgrade my firmware instead. So did I. After upgrading the firmware, I managed to login to the web configuration page after reboot. Then, the router starts to connect to the internet but it has been connecting for more than 15minutes but nothing changed. So, I suspect that my ID/PASS could be wrong. So, I called unifi to double confirm my user/pass, which is right. Until now, the router is still connecting. So disappointed and tired of this nonsense.

Anyone experience the same problem?

"I just bought the TP-Link on 13 April 2013. Model is TL-WR1043ND to replace my D-Link 615 (from Tmnet Unifi). First day confirgue everything done (Unifi Mode) and I able to use the modem to connect internet and Wifi can connect. After that 3days
1. 1st error is my Pc and some other housemate was not able to connect Wifi (keep connecting & disconnecting), if we use LAN cable we able to connect internet. But thing had not stop there, just the day after which is 4days after I bought the modem.
2. In the morning I facing 2nd error which is I unable to connect internet using LAN cable, worst thing that I can not even connect to TP-Link Management Page which is 192.168.0.1, I looked the TL-WR1043ND and realized that the system light is not ON (not blinking not function). I try Wifi then keep connecting and disconnecting. Then I try to reboot the modem by OFF => ON back the switch. And I able to connect Internet + TP-Link Management Page through LAN cable. Then I tried Wifi and I able to connect to the router and after that Internet + TP-Link Management Page.
3. I thought it was done and just like 1 time error only. Who knows the modem only work fine for 1days (not even 24hours). The next morning it is happen again the 2 error code mention as above. Then I do reboot by OFF then ON back. It worked for like 2 days. Then 7 days, it is happen again and I quite fraustrated about it, so I called TP-Link Tech Support at 1300 8887 5465 then they advise me to update the firmware to the latest which is TL-WR1043ND_V1_130325 (my current firmware is TL-WR1043ND_V1_120605) Once I update it is showing successfully but the TP-Link Management Page did not refresh back to Home Page (it was hang at the Successfully Update Firmware Page for like 30minutes) so I called the Tech again then they advise me to press Reset button for 10 second and let the modem restart but seems nothing happen after I press cause according to Tech Agent said it will reboot and all light will flashing/blinking but nothing happen all light is ON (no flashing/no blinking) seems light no reset. So Tech Agent advise me to contact reseller since still in 7days 1 to 1 exchange, so immediately that day I contact reseller to exchange 1 on 1.
4. I brought the modem back and install follow instruction paper (also choose Unifi mode). Everything successfully done and able to use for 1st day which is 21st April 2013, guess what after that day 22nd April, all my PC, especially my friend PC was not able to connect Wifi (keep connecting and disconnecting) same as previous modem. Then ask the try to use cable and they can connect to Internet.
5. And it so annoying by today morning I woke up and I found even LAN cable also can not connect Internet especially sys light on the router is not ON (not blinking) and I know for sure I was not able to connect TP-Link Management Page, guess what I was correct. So I reboot the modem by OFF then ON then everything back normal but Wifi can not connect."

I think most likely is the Unifi Mode, i have not try in Normal mode. Because i feel like what the point buy this modem to get Unifi now if use normal mode maybe can try the normal one maybe cheaper or expensive like Linksys but better not like i having right now.

TP-Link Technical is all china people. and i really can not understand what they said even mandrin. Fraustrated with this modem/router. Any1 got any idea. i dont want to keep go here go there or exchange again again.

hi, Just bought the TL-WR841N yesterday. Setup everything as per normal, but also having the same problem as some of the other users here. Keeps showing 'connecting....' but never connects. Any idea what could be wrong? Tried following klseet's guide and still the same.

My firmware is v8 and supports Unifi.

Hey guys,
I'm facing disconnection problems since last week after upgrading my UNIFI from 5mbps to 10mbps. The problem starts when I start downloading using utorrent. The internet for the downloading pc just goes off while LAN connection still works. Happened on both my computers. Any input to solve this issue? Thanks

can I bring it to service centre (where ??) to reset to factory mode that can accept unifi.

Have you tried 192.168.11.1?

TP-Link service center is in Lowyat.
If your router is indeed bricked while flashing to DD-WRT, service center will deny any RMA/repairs request.
This guy can help you fix your router. He revived my brother's bricked WR1043ND for only RM30.

ccschua did you manage to login to the DD-WRT webui using 192.168.11.1?
If you do, do let me know if you are able to connect to UNiFi.

I've been trying to connect to UNiFi using DD-WRT but still fail. Asked in the DD-WRT main thread, but no one replies. sweat.gif

Right now using OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment 12.09 Final.

I haven't had any successful UniFi connection with DD-WRT.
Works fine on OpenWrt though.

You have to call UniFi helpline (1-300-88-1221) to get your username & password.

Half true.
If you connect the WR1043ND directly into the BTU, yes you need the UniFi username & password to connect to the internet.
If you connect the WR1043ND into the DIR-615/L7-N-R2000 router, then you don't need the UniFi username & password to connect to the internet.

Hi

I been using this 1043ND v1.8 model for UNIFI for 1 years plus and now switching to Maxis Fiber.

there is a maxis fibre firmware for v2.0 but not v1.8.

may i know is there a way to upgrade to work with maxis fiber?

if no way, then i can sell it off for 50 bucks.

any specialist advise here? thank you

FOR EVERYONE THAT CANNOT GO ONLINE

I assume you meant you are using the stock firmware from TP-Link.

Do not connect your computers/laptops to LAN 1. LAN 1 is for IPTV. I found that out when calling their customer service.

You should be able to conncect to the internet if you leave LAN 1 empty (didnt try IPTV).

I keep seeing this question again and again so i thought this will help. But please....read the post above mine...i have my own problem too. Please help.

I think i found the link with solution here: https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/11898

Paste it here to help others with the same problem.

I bricked my router while trying to flash it back to original F/W to test the WAN port.

It behaves like a christmas tree now.

Power - LED ON
Initially - SYS, WLAN, USB, QSS - Flash once
Then - LAN 1 - 4, WAN - Flash once
(Then the cycle repeats)

Any luck with un-bricking my router??

Try sending them back to TP-LINK. Sometime they do exchange

Else try the service from this user

seriously, after so many years using it.. only now i know there's bug on WAN..

which i am 1 of the unlucky who get it as well.

no wonder everytime i restart/reboot the router the WAN won't connect.

Needa reboot 2nd times only it will works..

i thought it's unifi problem.

gonna follow this to fix: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3162958&hl=

even openwrt wiki itself also stated: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1...sy.installation

anyway, it's still not too late to know
