P2312H monitor is good too? hmm.gif but it is not E-IPS. hmm.gif

Well it was a budget problem but after reading through, i think I'll drop my recommendation of the P2312H. The U2312HM is still the best. smile.gif

My testing on U3011 is great thus far. Just watched 1080p Cowboy vs. Aliens (with video birate >10Mbps) in a fully darken room yesterday night and the effect was spectacular. Besides I also tried to playback different kind of video source with different quality just to see whether there is any real differences. Here's what I have come up with thus far.

For those whose intention of purchasing Dell U3011 was entertainment, i.e. watching movie, you would probably consider the following points which I had listed down below:

1. If most of your movies are DVD rip or BD rip with video bitrate < 2000Kbps, it will looks very worse on the screen. 720p with <5000Kbps will look nice only if you sit from a distance greater than 1m. Else you would noticed some blur. U3011 is able to upscale 1080p movie (with bitrate >10Mbps) to 1600p very nicely in this case and the picture looks amazing in every single aspect even when sitting at a distance of ~0.8m in my case.

2. When play back 1920x1080 resolution video on full screen mode, there is a black bar of 2cm each on the top and bottom. For me I make use of these black bar by displaying subtitle on them rather than overlay it on the video itself. So not a huge deal for me here. However, not all 1080p movies has 1:1 AR, most are encoded on weird AR (e.g. 1920x8xx). In these case these black bar will be much thicker. The 30' compensate it.

In short, U3011 will display your 1080p blu ray movie in its full glory. Movies which looks worst when upscaled on Full HD display will looks even worst on U3011.

Just my 2 cents. smile.gif

First of all what monitor panel are you using now? TN or IPS? If it's IPS and you haven't noticed any ghosting, then I would say Dell U2312HM will suit your needs nicely with additional RM100-150.

Only TV shows uses 16:9. Movies are usually 1.85:1 or 2.39:1, thus your so called "weird" ratio encode.

Guys / girls,

anyone actually own both u2311h and u2312hm ?

i want to ask how is the color comparison, in terms of cold/warm level.

Im using u2311h right now, but getting 1 more u2311h which i think is absolutely hard nowaday. only left u2312hm as choice.

i would like to raise my concern to you guys, so any opinion?

you poison your friend to grab a 2312hm, after he get it, then you grab your monitor, VROOM to his house, test it side by side. brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif

My office bought a workstation couple with U2312HM last week and I took a few test with my laptop (TN, LED backlit) side by side and my the U2312HM almost looks like looking at super-bright warm panel, the color is almost same as my home's 2333SW (color temperature wise) so I guess it's suffice to say that it's comparable to the older sibling U2311H, but of course the colors will definitely different even for different batches of U2311H, you need colori-meter to get them close to each other.

I heard/read that it isn't too good for gaming. Other than that it should be okay as it uses the same panel as Dell's U2312HM iirc.

All the current IPS panel are having slower response time than TN panel. Slow response time means you might experience some ghosting especially on fast paced game like FPS.

Be careful, Samsung has this 'Magic Color' technology that increases colour saturation making it look more 'beautiful' but in actual fact these colours are wildly inaccurate.

Not only slow response time. Input lag is another disadvantage. If i recall correctly, the U2312HM has the most lowest time in input lag compared to other IPS panels which makes it a good buy.
