Thinking of getting a monitor since i sold my Dell S2409W a few months ago.
Have been waiting for the 27" 3D monitor by Asus.
What do you guys think of 3D monitors? Is it a gimmick? I like the 120Hz feature too though i've not seen one in action. Anyone knows where in lowyat that displays a 120Hz monitor for the public?
Also, IPS panels have very high response rate correct? So if i were to get a dell 24" IPS, i'd see some amount of ghosting when playing intense games like racing and FPS games corect?

Hey guys,
I sold my Dell S2409W monitor 2 months ago, and have been using a 15" ACER monitor for the time being.
My GPU is GTX580.
I was waiting for Asus 27" 3D monitor to be released but have soon realized that its of a luxury than something practical. The price is one thing, the availability is another. Maybe 3D is just a gimmick so for now, I'll just settle with plain old 2D.
As i was using a 24" before, i don't want to go lower than that. I don't have a specific budget, but i think 27" monitors are still overpriced.
The dell 24" IPS monitor seems nice, but the 8MS response time is something to consider about since the rig is mainly a gaming rig. What do you guys think? 8MS response time is a huge deal that i'd see ghosting / tearing? I'm don't play much of racing games, just action ones like LFD2, GTA , Crysis and the likes of it.
What would you guys suggest?

Read the review on the samsung. Didn't quite like it. Read on newegg that users were complaining about the monitor's color display. Not good enough etc. Also, warranty is only for 1 month. Although i had no problem with using my old monitor without needing any warranty, its better to be safe than sorry. I'd rather have at least 2 years of warranty when it comes to monitors. QUOTE(karhoe @ Nov 6 2011, 11:53 AM) Seems like some of you here manage to get U2312HM for RM549. Unfortunately the promotion has JUST ended. HOWEVER, if any of you willing to help me, I can still get the U2312HM for the same price, all you need to do is to contact your sales agent and tell him you friend wants another one at the same price. It can be done because sometime ago, I helped a fellow forumer here to get U2311H at a dirt cheap price + 5 years warranty after the promotion just ended (I just got one U2311H back then). This is possible because the quotation has already been generated for you, so can just revise the quantity, but obviously the monitor will be transported separately. So any kind soul here willing to help me out? You can even tell your SA to give you a further RM10 discount for buying additional unit ! (I got that last time haha) So any kind soul, please drop me a PM! Another question, I'm actually using U2311H and I'm planning to buy U2312HM for my brother. Which is the better monitor? I am planning to get the 24" IPS version. Can we both do it to get more discounts?

Great. Try milking the discount from the manager I'm in. The current offer is about RM830 + 5 years warranty from a forumer. I believe he is getting it under dell's employee purchasing program. Do let me know

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Nov 29 2011, 09:34 PM) It has been a while since I last lurk in here to find information about latest LCD I need to get rid of my Dell ST2410 (TN) to replace it with an IPS panel monitor for my photography work. I have one currently, the HP LP2475w and it is no doubt a lovely screen. I'm looking for some cheaper IPS but with decent colours as well. Any recommendation? I have seen Dell now offering U2410 and U2412M which both are IPS but at different price range? Anyone here care to share more about it? IPS got different grades also? Basically the U2410 is using a much higher grade IPS compared to U2412M which is using E-IPS and economic / cheaper version of IPS panel. Don't get me wrong, it will look better than most TN panel but don't compare it with its expensive counterpart. The U2412M has lesser input lag compared to the U2410 though. Anyways, most gamers who are looking for an IPS model swear by the U2410. If you're doing serious photography, the U2410 is the way to go for the best colour offered.

Guys, i'm planning on getting the U2412m. The aspect ratio 16:10 bothers me alittle.
How are your movies playing on the screen? Do they look extremely stretched? Or the black bars are unbearable?

Okay guys, thanks to your replies to my previous question, I have made up my mind. I am getting the U2412M as my primary monitor. I need a secondary monitor though. My second monitor wouldn't be used for extended movie watching / gaming because i cannot stand the bezel in between. This will be used for studying purposes. Say I am writing up a report, I could open up ms word on my main monitor, and the 2nd monitor would be in a potrait postition with notes on it. Which monitor should be good for this? I am currently leaning at Dell Professional P2312H for my 2nd monitor. What do you guys think? Or is there better monitors for this price range, RM539.

QUOTE(figure8 @ Dec 1 2011, 08:42 AM) search something that can swivel to potrait mode. not all monitor can do that QUOTE(soundsyst64 @ Dec 1 2011, 08:52 AM) not many monitors out there have portrait mode. this what I'm able to search. Dell UltraSharp U2312HM Dell Professional P2312H Dell U2412M Actually I did search at dell's site. Quite dissappointed that the swivel feature isn't a standard at this day and age. The only swivel-able monitor from Dell that isn't from the ultrasharp range and is within the 23" range is the Dell Professional P2312H as i mentioned in my earlier post. Wanted to ask you guys if you know of any reviews for this unit. I couldn't find much since this unit is produced for the Asian market.

QUOTE(ktek @ Dec 1 2011, 11:23 AM) get any monitor with standard 100x100 vesa mount then buy after market swivel-pivot stand or wall mount from shop problem solved This is actually a very good suggestion. Only problem is, at the price range of RM539, its quite hard to find a 23/24" monitor that will beat Dell's professional P 23" series monitor.

Decided to get the U2412M and P2312H combo. A 16:10 and 16:9 delight. So i'm covered both ways if necessary. Haha .
Should be a problem right using 16:10 and 16:9 monitors side by side?

QUOTE(DrBlueBox @ Dec 2 2011, 01:55 AM) Nope. I do not span my monitors. They are extended, thus movies/software runs on one monitor without bothering the other. What I said about aspect ratios are modern movies usually are shot in 1.85:1 or 2.40:1 ratio. Thus it does not matter if you are using a 16:9 or a 16:10 monitor. they will still be black bars. This would depend on the source , and of course how its encoded. Anymore further and this topic would become illegal if you know what i mean. Anyways, from my experience, bluerayR have been utilizing 100% of my old 16:9 1080p monitor, no black bars. Btw, how do i treat the 2 monitors as separate monitors? I mean, the desktop would extend to the 2nd monitor as well, but when i maximize a window, lets say my browser, would it be maximized across the 2nd monitor as well? If it does, how do i stop it and all other applications from maximizing to the 2nd monitor?

QUOTE(DrBlueBox @ Dec 2 2011, 02:13 AM) By default windows uses extended mode. It means your monitor keeps each individual settings. What you are describing is expand mode, where multiple monitors are used as one large desktop. But you CAN'T use expand mode UNLESS you are using 3 exact same monitors (nVidia surround/ATi eyefinity). Anyways on blu-ray movies, most of the ones I watched (from original blu ray disk mind you) are Anamorphic wide-screen, thus it's not 16:9 You can manually set the color for your monitor. Go to screen resolution --> Advanced settings --> Color Management Click on "use my settings for this device" Great. That is what i really wanted. Not the nvidia surround / ati eyefinity setup. Thank you for confirming this. The monitors should run well according to my needs QUOTE(Private.G @ Dec 2 2011, 12:59 PM) Woohoo~ Just collected my first IPS panel - Dell U3011 which was purchased from Kelvin bro. At first thought the Dell U3011 is indeed H-U-G-E. It took up both of my passengers seat in my car. Unpacking it was very exciting and easy. It took up almost 1/4 of my desk space. Setting it up along side with my MBP 13' make my MBP looks miniature. Too bad I can't test it right now as I'm lacking a miniDP to DisplayPort cable. Will set it up tonight and see the difference. I am expecting the color to be on par, or even better than the MBP display So exciting right now even by just staring at its black matte surface. Sexy! Looking forward to post my mini-review about it A few pictures would be great

Couldn't find it online. Perhaps you could open up a WTB thread over on garage sales. If not, then its time to look for a brand new monitor What would your budget be btw?
