Yeah position but often not the quality.

Indians, Banglas are in a way timid, not many voice out their thoughts, probably language barrier, probably also due to their culture where they listen and not to retaliate words from superior.
*
Those are the less educated ones who dont know any better and are afraid to speak up since they may have been working in a work culture which frowns upon voicing ones opinion or reporting about a superiors misconduct or dubious activity. Thats the "white man" is very frustrated in a "china man" company where nobody dares to talk against their superiors eventhough the superior is in the wrong due to various forms of "retribution" to be met out by said superior.

But there are those indians who let power goto their head very easily and they start to act like those indian movie stars, cocky as hell with ballz to boot. I know a few indian nationals who are pretty chill about things since those guys are more travelled then their brethren who work only in singapore and thus not exposed to the international scene.

Except for a group of elites who are very well educated (often educated in the US)
They are assertive, aggressive, pushy, and often do not listen to others. (of course I am stereotyping but there's a reason for it)
Hopefully i won't bump into anymore of them sweat.gif

What industry are you working in?

Mechanical engineering companies in singapore, mainly the SME's employ a large number of indians, bangla ,china and burmese since their cheap, they dont usually fight back and they are semi-skilled workers.

I prefer to work with filipinos since their easy going and they dont really have inflated ego's like some singaporeans and malaysians do. Plus some of my black ops kaki are pinoys.

Ok, i am abit exaggerate, i don't hate them all but i hate most of them. To me, they are good at back stabbing people. Even the smallest problem, they will report to the manager behind people's back.

Guys, help me decide. I got an offer as a post of Assistant Manager in a well established insurance firm in Sg. I'm currently working at a major financial institution in KL. SG is offering me SGD5000. My fixed expenses in KL is around RM6000. I already have a family (house, wife, two kids and my parents) in KL. So the question now is, does it make sense to accept the offer in SG? Here's the extra cost in SGD if I go to SG:

Rent a room : 500
Communication (since i am so far from family) : 300 (??)
Food : 300
Travelling (I still need to go back to KL at least once a month) : 300 to 500 (??)

By this calculation, it does not really make sense to go there anymore. But in the long term, if I bring my family over to SG (and if my wife also finds a job in SG), perhaps it will be better?

What do you guys think?

For communication, just use skype. I virtually spend nothing when i call back to my hometown when using skype. Thats if i do call back which isnt often.

Food is to low, bump it to 500.

Travelling isnt so ex if your flying budget once a month.

You do realise that 1 S$ can be exchanged with 2.45 RM, right?

Are you currently earning RM12000?

@jacky does your wife work? your plan to bring your family over to singapore, does your wife plan to work? because if you are only working on one salary you really need much more than $5k a month to support a family here comfortably.

Compare ur net savings in RM (net tax and EPF) if u stay in KL to potential net savings in RM (converte from SGD net of tax and cpf)
If it's double then yes, if it's the same not worth it, and keep looking.
It may not be easy to look for job in SG, so ur temporary separation with ur wife, u shd expect about 2 years.

But based on ur information, assuming u have fixed expenses in KL RM6k, so without u in KL, maybe will drop to RM4k, i estimate, which is SGD1.8k (prudently). then u have SG expenses ball park estimate SGD2k. So u have a net after tax saving of abour SGD1k = RM2.4k, if ur current job can save u about RM2k and above, not worth it.

Its gonna be worse when your family moves there. The more non-income generating members you bring to SG, the worse -- really from an economy standpoint.

Rent a HDB : SGD 2,000
child care x2 : SGD 1,200
and since you have a familiy, (used) car installment : SGD 1,000

I just listed the top 3, which would already consumed >100% of your disposable income. sweat.gif

That's not the complete picture. By being in SG, you also avoid the expenses you have in KL.

QUOTE(Dark NT @ Sep 10 2011, 01:43 PM)
Rent a HDB : SGD 2,000
If you currently rent in KL, you no longer pay that. If you own the house in KL, you can rent out. If you're still paying instalment in KL, you can sell and pocket the diffference after repaying the loan.

QUOTE(Dark NT)
child care x2 : SGD 1,200
If you were paying childcare in KL, you no longer pay that.

QUOTE(Dark NT)
and since you have a familiy, (used) car installment : SGD 1,000
Less your car instalment in KL.

At the end of the day, you have to compare financing 1 lifestyle in SG vs 1 lifestyle in KL. Can't compare financing 2 lifestyles (1 SG and 1 KL) vs the existing 1 in KL.

There is "budget" calls back to M'sia
Singtel - 019
Starhub - 018
Pay extra $5++/month to allow conversion of the minutes you have to include the "budget" calls.
Need more minutes? Just sign the one with the most minutes, if I remember correctly, it is less than $100 still.

Hmmmm interesting ...... I never realize there could be so many complications.

I don't think I can totally separate everything in KL, e.g. I can't sell my house in KL even if I were to move my wife and kids to SG. My parents wants to stay there. And what if I want to go back to KL once in a while, I can't sell my car, and I can't terminate my KL phone line. So a lot of these expenses are still not reduced, I'm afraid.

If my wife comes to SG with me, for sure she must work too. But in the interim period before she comes, I will have to decide whether I personally want to expand my career to SG, or here in Msia .....
