Now its super hard to get a job in SG if yr not a Singaporean or PR. I just heard my HR got a memo from MOM to warn companies NOT to hire foreigners unless there is no SIngaporean or SIngaporean PR to fill the job after at least 6 months of job advertisement with proof of advertising via job boards/heah hunters/newspaper. Not so easy now. HR will have a tough job to justify foreigners.

At least 8K a month for a comfortable lifestyle. 4K for rental, 2K for a car and around 2K for food and bills. Maybe another 4K for entertainment (a thousand each weekend is pretty decent... easily blow $500 for a dinner for two at a decent restaurant).

Hi all, wondering how's the employment market in Singapore now, especially in accounting firms? Have been sending quite a number of resume but didn't get any replies.

Anyway, anyone heard of Protiviti Pte Ltd? Stumbled upon this ads of theirs http://sg.jobsdb.com/SG/EN/Search/JobAdSin...400003000781544

According to Wikipedia it's a spin off of Arthur Andersen. Not sure how well it is doing in Singapore though.

1 year + means you will most likely be looking at first (usually) or second year associate level (if you're lucky), and for these 2 positions from what I heard, most if not all aren't hiring at the moment. Senior level probably more likely.

Added on November 14, 2011, 1:04 amOn an unrelated note, I have a HDB room to rent out at Bishan area, near Bishan MRT for $690 (excluding bills). Move-in date is Dec'10 with a lease of 6 months.

If anyone is interested please do drop me a PM. Thanks.

Yeah man. I don't mind starting afresh in sg. Any idea when will they start hiring again for these positions or any idea which firm (big4, medium) still hiring?

Wondering should I just settle for Protivity. Nobody knows how are they doing in Sg?

They only have one major intake every year, which is during July - Sep period when the local grads come in. Usually there's a smaller intake around Dec for the Aussie grads. Other than that, they will only hire when needed.

Off record, this year's freshies were much lesser compared to last year, so unless you are already a senior, otherwise I would say chances aren't really that high at the moment.

Guys,

I need to arrange a first-time "in-laws meet-up" (my family + fiancee's family) dinner this weekend. Any recommendations? About 10 ppl, I'm paying all so I don't feel like going swanky, think I can feed 10 mouths in a proper dinner for like $300?

Currently thinking of Seafood International cos food is "ok" and not too expensive, but that's only cos I don't know of any other places ...

Wow! In-laws meet-up. Nothing and i mean nothing is more daunting than that!!! sweat.gif You better do homework and get ready answers to their potential questions. Questions like "tell me why you wanna marry my daughter besides the fact that you love her?" or "tell your 5/10 year plan after you get married and how you are going to give my daughter a good life?". rclxub.gif ahahah just messing with you.... thumbup.gif but seriously get the answers ready, you don't want to be caught out with blank stares.....good luck!

Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant?
Went there a few times with friends.
Not really a fan of seafood and not picky with my food but everyone else seems to like it, so I suppose it is good. laugh.gif laugh.gif
Recommended dish is their black pepper crayfish and another dish which I dunno wat it is called (it is a fish with lots of sambal thingy on top)

SG you get paid 2-3x more than MY, and you expect the same level of challenge? hmm.gif Something not right with this equation. Also, at least in my workplace, I don't feel any different from my other colleagues whether SC or FT. All of us are equally overworked and underpaid tongue.gif

buy Groupon, lots of it smile.gif
Seriously, you can't really save on this, especially 1st time meeting between the parents. Price is really secondary, most important is nice and tasty food. The thing about seafood is, if it's good then it's REALLy good but if it's bad it could turn real nasty. Suggest you go for canto food, places like Jade Restaurant serve good canto good and you couldn't never go wrong in term of food or service.
