Thanks for the link bunny, now I know rental unit can get tax rebate. Did any one put money in SRS? I get insurance tax rebate even without using the SRS, so how can I benefit from it?

CPF account get min 2.5% interest, protected from creditors and you can use it to for investement too ( with investment charges).

SRS account not protected by gov and creditor plus 5% penalty if you withdraw (contribution + profit) before 10 years (non SG, PR) or before "retirement age"(now 62, which gov can change anytime) for SG, PR. Then SRS charge admin fee on top of other investment charges. So this is better for those high earning EP holder who has long term and plan to hold EP for >10 years.

Non PR need PR friend as guarantor.
Interest rate is low compared to Malaysia.
Insurance is the thing that kills, was quoted 4.5k with 1 month Singaporean license. 26 years old.
Is possible to get 0% downpayment with 2nd hand car.
HDB open air season car park, 63.5 per month.
Road tax for 1.6 Mazda is 7xx if I recalled correctly.
Petrol, was driving for about 8 month and I only pumped once full tank and 2 times $20 in Singapore, the rest, buatan Malaysia.
Sold my car and now seconded to Vietnam.
*
Omg. 4.5k insurance is more than rm10k. I don't think Im willing to spend that much.

Talk to your parent or wife (sibling cannot) who have NCD in Malaysia. Ask them to transfer their ncd to you and you cover their higher insurance cost. Mine is ~700+ per year.

I got a 3 yr used family sedan when the new advante
with Coe was selling at 50k. Parking about 70/month. Petrol really depend on individual usage. Servicing is much cheaper if you get familiar with car and know how to source part and services. I believe if you take good care of your car, it take good care of your life. So I spend if I have to.

I resisted getting a car until I really need it. I make it a point to buy the place I stay before buying a car.

Surf the local sgcarmart and the mycarforum for more info.

If the my insurance agent don't know then find another agent. Just need a letter from insurance company to transfer ncd between certain related people as posted. Show the letter to SG insurance company and you get the ncd. Higher insurance premium for age <32 or >65, new license, sport car or model like "wrx".

Use citi dividen card plus esso station discount already 14% off. Check petrowatch.com for detail.

Vw golf cheap only 50k and safety is best, many abs there

New car COE is 10 years, as the car aged the frequency for car inspection before road tax renewer increse too. At most once a year which cost ~S$100.

before you hit the 10 years mark, you can chose to renew your COE for 10 years or 5 years by paying 100% or 50% of the prevailing COE(average of past 3 month COE). If you renew, then your car is one of those "COE car" else your car will be deregistered and they will ask you to send your car to scrap yard.

bro, the 50k is only for the VW Golf without COE right? check this
New VW Golf
almost RM300k for the cheapest model, like driving a double storey house on the road, one bang on the rear there goes the kitchen rclxub.gif I probably buy another house than buying a car when COE is very high... if I have the money to spend.

hehehe, diff is the 1.4 twincharger is not just turbo... there's super charging as well... therefore doesnt mean all the power have to come from spooling the turbo.. usually above certain rpm the super charger turns off and the turbo kicks in... but i believe you can keep the super charger on all the way  rclxms.gif  gearbox no prob... both the 6-speed and 7-speed dsg can take those power, brakes? just change to ceramic pads lor... caliper still can take it...

dont need change intercooler/radiator/oil cooler/ water pump/ oil pump... usually only trucks or rally cars need this as their turbo is always kicking in

stage 2 chip i think around sgd 1.1k, but can get it done cheaper in msia...

cousin did it to his jetta, but his is the stock model that comes with 170bhp already

Any idea where is the nearest KTM station from Sg in Johor?Forgot KTM station is just next to immigration  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Many years ago when I was single. I bought SGD2 ticket from tanjong pagar to JB then go to counter to buy tic to KL using ringgit then hop on to the same train.

Then they started online purchase, so you can buy tic from JB to your home town in RM. Just pay for woodland to JB in SGD. Check if the e ticket still functioning, this is Malaysia.

I love the train when I have to travel to KL at night. I can have a long sleep in the train before reaching KL at 7am. Back then too many bus accident at night, train was safer bet.

Haha.. I give it a miss, I have better use for that amount of money. I don't need big toys, a functional car will do.

If you ever get one gtr, make sure you are the owner not the car own you. You will have more time to drive it around than working hard to keep it.

Guys, thank you very much for your responses

Added on August 28, 2011, 10:09 amquestion for those car owners in singapore.. do you also need to get the JPJ letter for the insurance of the car ? to prove that you are a driver of many years so that the insurance is lower ?

Or we can make do with just our Malaysian driving license. ? Does it matter if the difference is 6 years or 10 years ? got discount... or is it totally not related. ?
*
Ncd transfer letter from MY insurance, JPJ don't track your ncd.

18 years of driving give you extra discount from some company. Most still consider your SG license pass date which is your conversion date but you can chose not to deal with agent that don't consider your MY driving experience.

Maybe u should tell them that u wan te extract instead of telling them u wan to convert ur license...

Yeap, just say you need driving record extract. Normally they don't ask why. I just renew my driving license, no problem no black list.

So, it's called "slip catatan lesen trafik"? I had asked for a "surat" to give to Sg traffic police to get Sg licence. And they came back (both times) saying that they needed to blacklist my licence.
*
"Surat" is more formal but the slip is just computer generated plus a JPJ stamp to certify true copy, Sign by officer then collect service charge for the slip. The slip just contain your licence data without any words that state its purpose or application, so by right they dont need to know what is it for.

My friend who just got his PR also able to obtain the slip without problem.

Better convert soon even you dont have a car yet as the longer your license pass date the lower your insurance. You dont have to tell them everything especially things about SG as they are sensitive. Guess what happen if you tell them you need to convert a license to drive in Afgan, they might treat you like brother.

I think most of us here like our country, its people and the unique culture.

Other than umno and their gang I think all of us don't like the way our politician run the country. This is the main reason why our country still "Bo leh"(don't have) and we are still second class. I don't mind being second clasd as long as I can earn more on average than those first class in Malaysia.

So I m happy to have malaysia as home. Just have to keep searching for better "pejaga rumah".

Don't need, cash will do. Ask them to send directly to your garage for display.

If take loan, bank want you to buy insurance. Car insurance need your driving license.

To drive the car you need road tax, you need insurance before you can pay for road tax. So need your driving license again.

You are driver too.
