With salary slips banks can check - the EPF (whether it is paid to in approportion to your salary), Tax deduction, salary deposit with the respective bank.
Does an offer letter contains all these information ?

Offer letter does not prove that you have the income. You may have an offer letter which offers you a salary of RM50k (or whatever number) per month but do you have the income until is is paid to your bank account ? - NO

Generally banks will not recognize the 2-3K commission to be a fixed income and that is not guarantee to recur on a fixed monthly basis.
So it is likely that only RM2.1K is recognized as the firm recurring income and this would explain the application rejection.

Based on your requirement, first card to get is OCBC Titanium MasterCard - you earn 5% cash back everyday for Petrol, Telco Bills, TNB, Astro & Dining but the cash back is capped at RM50/month. So it is good for up to RM1K spending only.

Too bad MBB rejected your application for Maybank 2 Cards. Try go to card centre at 1U of KLCC and reapply. If rejected again, go check your CCRIS report.

And since you do spend above RM1K, you may need another card purely for Petrol and you may consider UOB One Card or Citibank Platinum Cash Back where both cards earns you 5% cash back up to RM600 Petrol. Click here to my Credit Card Cash Back Page where I did a Comparison Table.

3. Card required for: Petrol, Dining, Cash Back/Rebate, Hotels, Overseas Transactions
4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil.
5. Looking at CC from: Any bank with large network of branches

6. Others: I don't have a credit card at the moment. I'm looking to have one just in case especially for use during travel for work purposes - to local and international destinations. I travel for work about 5-10 times a year. Other than that the card will just be used for occasional expenses. Mostly will be used for petrol and dining.

Monthly expenses will almost always be less than RM1k

Please advise ! Thank you smile.gif

Item 6 - well there is this thing called Credit Card Protection insurance offered by third party and some promoted jointly with the card issuer but it is not free. I can't remember, but there is one premium or platinum credit card that do offer 0 liability against fraud case.

From my experience, Maybank Visa or MasterCard not bad as you will get a One Time Password by sms. Same for RHB Debit Card. AMEX the worst security feature. I think your UOB card should be the same(?) So, if you ask me, if you kiasu like me, get a Debit card for online transaction where you can control the damage, i.e. no money in account, nothing to loose, haha.

As for cash back card, look into Maybank 2 Cards or for petrol UOB One Card. Check out my reply to klcc212 and click on the cash back link.

HLB Essential 1% CB, no limit but you got to check if got auto waiver. I will still recommend you to get Maybankard 2 Cards where AMEX gives you 5% for up to RM1K spending, balance RM9K go earn your 1% or less tongue.gif

All AMEX Amex cards earn you minimum 2X Membership Reward points and you can convert to cash to offset your bill. 2X = 1% cash back too.

And by the way, you mentioned spending RM10K/month and your income RM30K, which means your CL in accordance to BNM ruling is RM5K. So if got problem on CL, go get AMEx charge card.

Agree with Titan_Gunners but not much benefits. What benefits you talking about? CIMB pretty good for Duty Free at Eraman.

If you click below link to my article, you will note that there is no cash back Credit Card that gives you Free access to LCCT PPL.

Free Entry to KLIA LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge with Credit Cards.

But 2 Debit Card go give you complimentary access to LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge:

2. RHB Premier Visa Debit Card - unlimited 0.5% cash back.

Click here my blog called Ringgit Wise Fool to read more about Privilege Premier Priority Banking.

So, for your case, get Maybankard 2 Cards and OCBC TMB for cash back and you can qualify for Citibank PremierMiles which is not a cash back card but it grants you FREE access to LCCT and KLIA PPL

Hi Gen-X,

From your blog about MBB 2, I saw the following when compared to OCBC TMC

QUOTE
MBB 2 Amex overseas transactions are subjected to 2.5% Admin Charge but with 5X maybe this is acceptable vs. a lower overseas conversion rate with OCBC TMC (do note again that the RM50 cap which may limit the usefulness of OCBC Titanium MasterCard for overseas spending

What about if I make online purchase (Amazon, games subcriptions and etc) with MBB 2 Mastercard (instead of MBB 2 AMEX), would the admin charge be at 2.5% too?
What's the admin charge with OCBC TMC?
Isn't the currency conversion rate the same for all banks?

Added on March 30, 2012, 4:37 pm1. Annual Income:

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must (Preferbly)

3. Card required for: Better rebate/cash back (both if possible). Normally spend on petrol, annual insurance payment and online purchases/spendings

4. Existing credit cards if any: AMEX Gold card...

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: None, mainly depending on the usage in item 3.

6. Others: Don't care if it gives rebate/cash back/points card as long it gives the best value for money back. But it seems like probably MBB 2 Cards and OCBC TMC so far. UOB One Card not bad too with petrol at 5% and can get up to RM50 rebate just petrol category alone based on this website, http://www1.uob.com.my/personal/cards/cred...b_one_card.html

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Around RM800-1500 monthly. Annually close to RM3k on insurance (GE).

shawnk, for overseas conversion rates, click here. See the first post and the last few pages where jchong and zenquix have taken the trouble to compile conversion rates for Maybankards. Lowest is MBB MasterCard.

For cash petrol, UOB max cash back is RM30 i.e. up to RM600. Read carefully the link you posted. This card is good card to compliment MBB 2 Cards and OCBC TMC if you touch the RM50 cap. But for general transactions the UOB earns you 0.3%.

Click here t o my Cash Back Page where I have a table comparing different credit cards,

OCBC TMC is great for Petrol, Dining , Astro, TNB, Telco and Groceries where you earn 5% Cash Back.

Maybankard 2 AMEX is great for weekends as you earn 5% for any transaction PLUS 2.5% CB based on points everyday. Problem is not all merchant accept AMEX.

So if you ask me, get both MBB 2 Cards and OCBC TMC and earn 5% CB. And cancel your AMEX Gold CC smile.gif

Just to point out, if you are thinking of getting OCBC TMC purely for your insurance because most insurance companies do not accept AMEX except for Etiqa. But AIA office in Jln Ampang and PJ do accept AMEX (reported by wshoh and MGM. So if say your insurance premium is RM3K, you will earn 1% with the OCBC TMC = RM30, not enough to cover the GST, haha. So if say you have the Maybankard 2 Visa or MasterCard, use it for your insurance premium and you will earn 1X TP which is like 0.5% returns or RM15 and not need to pay extra GST.

As for MBB 2 AMEX 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays, it is not guaranteed for online transactions - some people reported they got the 5% cash back and some did not at the MBB 2 Thread,
