Firstly, there is no such thing as the Best credit card. It depends entirely on where you spend your money and what you want in return. Having said that, click below link to read my article on best credit cards

The Best Top 10 Credit Cards in Malaysia 2012

If you are talking about overseas transactions, there is a slight difference between the conversion rates when comparing Visa versus MasterCard. Click below link and read 1st page and then for MBB Visa vs MC, go read jchong and zenquix post from post#170 onwards. If you ask me, most places that accept Visa also accept MasterCard. But, if kiasu like me, get Visa and MasterCard  biggrin.gif

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1845691

And since you spend RM1K to RM2K, recommend you click below and read more on the following cards and then get both the cards.

OCBC Titanium MasterCard - you earn 5% cash back everyday for Petrol, Groceries, Telco Bills, TNB, Astro & Dining but the cash back is capped at RM50/month

Maybank 2 Cards - the MBB 2 AMEX earns you 5X Treats Points everyday PLUS additional 5% Cash back on Saturdays and Sundays. Once again, the 5% cash back is capped at RM50/month. The Maybank 2 Visa or MasterCard is accepted at many places for installment plans.

If you travel overseas often, better to get cards from 2 different card issuers just in case one can't go thru.

And since you are new to credit cards, click below link to read more:

Thanks for the detailed info. Well I meant best if there's annual fee waiver, sorry for the confusion. I would like to ask, do I choose either Visa or Mastercard with AMEX for Maybankard 2 card or do they instantly issue MC with AMEX? Another thing, what is the difference between Maybankard Gold and Platinum?

For MBB2 cards, there is no annual fee. For OCBC Ti, it is waived with 12x swipes.

For MBB2 cards, they issue MC with AMEX by default nowadays. Just specify clearly in your application form whether you want MC or VISA.

Apart from higher income requirement, Platinum gives you extra benefits like travel insurance and purchase protection.

Bro, my bad, I just reread and realised it was my mistake and confused myself doh.gif

As Human Nature mentioned, nowadays it seems it comes with MC by default; but you can always specify you want Visa.

As for diff between Plat, besides what Human Nature mentioned, if you play golf, the Plat offers free green fee at selected golf clubs.

Goto Maybankard Centre at 1U or KLCC and you can get the card in 2 hours or so. Of course you need to bring along the relevant docs.

You mentioned in another thread just got a job, got supporting docs ar? tongue.gif

The card to get is OCBC Titanium MasterCard which compliments any credit cards smile.gif Go ask the branch nearest to you what docs they need for people working in SG.

Also check out Maybankard 2 Cards. Go to above few post where I have links to my articles.

If you going to use the card in SG, better you get a SG debit card from OCBC or DBS where you get discount at many places.

When you are in Singapore, go check it out. You need to open a savings account in SG, go check it out after you get your first month salary smile.gif

My local issued OCBC TMC was entitled to 10% discount at SG's Forever 21 and also cash voucher at Sommerset 303.

Since you spend RM2K and above, you need more than one card.

First card to get is OCBC Titanium MasterCard - you earn 5% cash back everyday for Petrol, Groceries, Telco Bills, TNB, Astro & Dining but the cash back is capped at RM50/month. So it is good for up to RM1K spending only. OCBC Bank will absorb the GST if you spend RM10K per year.

Second Card to get is Maybank 2 Cards - the MBB 2 AMEX earns you 5X Treats Points everyday PLUS additional 5% Cash back on Saturdays and Sundays. Once again, the 5% cash back is capped at RM50/month i.e. you only earn cash back for up to RM1K spending. However the 5X Treats Points is unlimited and works out to be approximately 2.5% returns which is better than any other credit card for generally transactions.

In actual fact, for your requirement the Maybankard 2 AMEX is better than OCBC - because you only need to spend RM2K and earn 10,000 Treats Points to offset RM50 GST compared to OCBC RM10K and yet earn 5% cash back on the RM2K spending.

And since you do spend above RM2K, maybe you even need another card purely for Petrol and you may consider UOB One Card or Citibank Platinum Cash Back where both cards earns you 5% cash back up to RM600 Petrol. Click here to my Credit Card Cash Back Page where I did a Comparison Table.

Maybankard 2 Cards which are FREE FOR LIFE smile.gif And by spending RM2K with the AMEX which earns you 5X TP, you can earn 10,000 Treats Points to offset RM50gST.

Since it is for backup, in case the AMEX not accepted, you still got the MasterCard or Visa smile.gif

Too bad MBB rejected your application for Maybank 2 Cards. Try go to card centre at 1U of KLCC and reapply. If rejected again, go check your CCRIS report.

And since you do spend above RM1K, you may need another card purely for Petrol and you may consider UOB One Card or Citibank Platinum Cash Back where both cards earns you 5% cash back up to RM600 Petrol. Click here to my Credit Card Cash Back Page where I did a Comparison Table.

With salary slips banks can check - the EPF (whether it is paid to in approportion to your salary), Tax deduction, salary deposit with the respective bank.
Does an offer letter contains all these information ?

Offer letter does not prove that you have the income. You may have an offer letter which offers you a salary of RM50k (or whatever number) per month but do you have the income until is is paid to your bank account ? - NO
