Sifus, I think I am gonna get flamed, but I am going to venture what I think is a my own accessment of the SGS2.

I don't think you should be flamed. Why? This is a discussion place so all comments should be welcome (unless you on purpose then is different case) biggrin.gif

1. The hardware is super, the camera is great.
2. The UI is unpolished (understatement). Many things is hidden under multiple levels of menu, and involve too many clicks to access.
3. Some things work and some don't. APNDroid does not seem to work. Paypal and BUMP cannot install. So stock ROM is hopeless, unless you root.
4. Battery life sucks, even with juice defender installed. Paid for Tasker, but unfortunately cannot set data to off, late at night and still consume quite an amount of battery. Got tasker to set Wifi off, bluetooth off, GPS off. Perhaps it's just me, or I am playing with it a bit, but I would expect 2 days of battery life with lite or moderate usage.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I would not recommend to friends at this time, comments are welcome.
*
1. Agreed
2. Really? I am fine but I customized mine though. Maybe that's why
3. Yes rooting will enable. For those not planning to root, then suffer a little I would say. Actually I guess it is region problem not phone or Samsung or any telco in Malaysia.
4. Agree. I undervolt crazily and having about 8 - 10 hours usage. First of all, I am not expecting to hit 2 days like BB but at least 12 hours. Of course I am a medium heavy user so I can't really comment on that. Lite usage is fine to hit 1.5 to 2 days depends on your setting.

Also, Juice Defender is good. It does off my data when I am sleeping. I set it data off every time the screen is off. Data seems controlled and I put auto sync every 15 minutes for email only. FB and twitter manual refresh. Doesn't seem to have an issue here but again, it took me 1 week to try out the setting of Juice Defender to get it work the way I like. Haha

Anyone experience, sometimes I go online using 3G, browsing internet or facebook halfway... the 3G services will be cacat...
Cannot go online anymore... then I tried to disable the Packet Data and Enable back..
Still cannot... The 3G icon totally gone.. the signal bar is full...
Then I clear cache... try enable and disable few times.. then the service only back to normal...
Is it the stock rom have this kind of issues??
Any advice?

1. hardware's exactly awesome
2. get a launcher pro. dun tell me u cant get it at android market
3. did u tried market enabler?
4. my phone can survive 1.5 days with moderate usage. with the same usage rate my N97 is around dat length of period as well, so, no complaint.

to off the data, just hold power button and disable ur data. to off wifi n bluetooth or gps or even auto rotation, juz drag down the notification bar and press on it. izit very troublesome to you? cool2.gif

Ok, I'm using Maxis and I got this phone as a replacement for my broken SE k660i, and had used the *100# to get the configuration for MMS and WAP. After I installed it, I still can't send/receive MMS nor surfing net with WAP (sometime I went to places without wifi). Thebn I tried the setting on the first post, and yet still the same problem. Any help? Anyone using Maxis and CAN send/receive MMS WITHOUT enabling wifi?
*
Wifi is not needed to send/receive MMS. Go to maxis homepage and get the settings sent to your phone.

I applied stein clear sp and guess I regreted it. Why? Too much finger prints lol! gorilla glass is fine for me since the I was already using the phone for 2 weeks without any sp...hmm!
I prefer clear over matte, matte destroys the nice screen. Only half a day and i already regretted having matte sp. Gorilla glass is not scratch proof my friend. Its only scratch resistant.

Not trying purposely, just that I think many would not be happy when I say something negative when they have splashed big money to get a super phone. I like this phone, if the custom ROM can make it more user friendly the it can kick some fruity ass. smile.gif

Thanks. The easiest way currently is using the power button, but if I can get a shortcut to it and press it on screen the it would be much easier.

Of course it's normal to cost money when sending MMS, but what I'm asking is when receiving MMS.

1. Agree
2. Different phones different UIs. You can always try other Android launchers. But I like the new TouchWiz 4.
3. Can install and use Paypal. Never use APNDroid or Bump. Root is just extra things you can do with Android like MarketEnabler, RootAccess, Titanium Backup, ClockSync, etc. Without root the Android is still a very good smartphone to use.
4. Battery life on both my SGS2 is very good. Unplugged from 7am until 11+pm, left about 20%-30% battery with heavy calls, sms+mms , FB, internet, emails and some gaming. I've only have Autokiller Memory installed and set to optimum settings applied. I only switch GPS, wifi and bluetooth on when I need them. Most of the time it is off. My 3G data is always on. My old SGS can last 3 days on airplane mode while I was in Taiwan, just moderate wifi for email and FB and taking pictures.

BTW I'm still on stock rom from day 1 until now. Only root the phone after 1 week as I need to restore my stuffs from Titanium Backup.

1. agree
2. yes and no, depending on individual's intelligence by using widget for quick access. UI = TWiz? TWiz has improved a lot compare to previous version and i kind of like it.
3. perhaps you do not understand the definition of root. please do more study before you give any comment. If APNDroid is not working, that doesn't mean is ROM issue and why would you need that at the first place? if you want to disable data, there are plenty of apps can do that such as switch pro widget and etc, or you can go all the way inside menu and disable data by untick "use packet data".
4. battery sucks? i find it better than my old galaxy S. it can last me more than a day. refer to 3 on setting data off.

lastly, 2 days of battery life if u,

1. permanent on 2G network
2. no data connection

That's where the complain for the UI. Have to go all the way in the multiple level menus. Or have to pay for a widget, willing to pay for useful stuffs, not really willing to pay coz Sammy or Google did not do a good UI. Was hoping the UI would be more user friendly and have a shortcut to off data or 3G. Better than old Galaxy is not good.

@vkylp: Lemme join the commenting.

1: Yep. SUPER fast, SUPER hot (especially on WIFI, maybe that's why all the newcomers are bising about it being hot). Cam is ok but, as all backside un-illuminated (dark butt, lol) sensors, lowlight performance is crap. We have macro AF problems too.

2. Stuff is a hundred times worse on an unjailbroken
IPhone. At least we have quicktoggles in the nottibar even w/o root. But I degress, I actually kinda agree, UI wise, until Googs decide to implement HW acceleration in the base UI itself, we are still gonna lag (haha) a bit behind. Also, we have a problem with base uniformity, which is confusing the hell out of newcomers.

3. That's a good point, "unless you root". It's easy, why not.

4. This point I agree. Sammy's gotta do a helluva lot more optimizations really. And I thought my iPhone 4 needed a battery case.

Yea yea, close everything, kill rogues, undelvolt, SetCPU. Sure, the more technically inclined can do all this (and in some cases, still get shit battery life), what about normal users?

Samsung made a bad move making this thing as thin as it is. I STILL think that if they made the back level (rather then tapering to thin), they could have fit at least a 2000mah battery (an actual one, not the china mari onea) inside.

But in the end, all that being said, the SGS2 is still a great phone, a landmark step forward for both Samsung and Android as a whole. Hopefully though, them idiots will stop racing to put more cores in and start making the ones already inside run longer without dying.

U didn't know how to turn off the data, does not mean you can't. You should've asked around... I've managed to squeeze 36 Hours continuously, with on-and-off wifi surfing, calls, sms, game. So the battery life does not suck.
