QUOTE(megadisc @ Jul 13 2011, 10:57 PM) i think its all depend on how you use the phone. can you specifically list down what you have been doing on your phone for the that particular 10 hours?1. Permanent on 3G? 2. play games? 3. Surfing? 4. Data on? 5. any push mail such as exchange mail or gmail? 6. any IM running at background? 7. a lot of calls? 8. a lot of SMS ? i have been using this phone before maxis launched it and i find the battery is good. it can last me at least 1 1/2 day depending on how heavy i use it. Morning 9AM full charge, by evening 7PM i still have at least 60-70% left. currently running on stock KG1 with tegrak kernel + UV 1. permanent on 2G, turn on 3G only when surfing 2. exchange mail and gmail 3. MSN, Gtalk, whatsapp 4. SMS (not much) 5. voice call (average 20 minutes/day) |

QUOTE(vkyip @ Jul 16 2011, 12:37 PM) Sifus, I think I am gonna get flamed, but I am going to venture what I think is a my own accessment of the SGS2. 1. agree1. The hardware is super, the camera is great. 2. The UI is unpolished (understatement). Many things is hidden under multiple levels of menu, and involve too many clicks to access. 3. Some things work and some don't. APNDroid does not seem to work. Paypal and BUMP cannot install. So stock ROM is hopeless, unless you root. 4. Battery life sucks, even with juice defender installed. Paid for Tasker, but unfortunately cannot set data to off, late at night and still consume quite an amount of battery. Got tasker to set Wifi off, bluetooth off, GPS off. Perhaps it's just me, or I am playing with it a bit, but I would expect 2 days of battery life with lite or moderate usage. Perhaps I am wrong, but I would not recommend to friends at this time, comments are welcome. 2. yes and no, depending on individual's intelligence by using widget for quick access. UI = TWiz? TWiz has improved a lot compare to previous version and i kind of like it. 3. perhaps you do not understand the definition of root. please do more study before you give any comment. If APNDroid is not working, that doesn't mean is ROM issue and why would you need that at the first place? if you want to disable data, there are plenty of apps can do that such as switch pro widget and etc, or you can go all the way inside menu and disable data by untick "use packet data". 4. battery sucks? i find it better than my old galaxy S. it can last me more than a day. refer to 3 on setting data off. lastly, 2 days of battery life if u, 1. permanent on 2G network 2. no data connection This post has been edited by c010: Jul 16 2011, 02:40 PM |

QUOTE(Proclaimer @ Jul 16 2011, 03:02 PM) Exactly man. Buy a smartphone with 3g capabilities and permanently stick to 2g mode? And say that saves alot of battery? Like driving a ferarri and say i need to drive it at 60 so that i can get 50km per liter of petrol. guys, do more research on 3G vs 2G first before blindly giving comment. Yes agree to the point of ferrarri theory but do you know what's the impact of turning on 3G permanently? if you are at full 3G coverage area then the impact on battery is minimum but if you are not, expect battery drain because your phone will tend to boost the signal lock down 3G network. That's the culprit of battery drain. i never say you cannot turn on 3G, turn on only when needed like surfing or downloading. 2G is more than enough for all the IMs or emails. |

QUOTE(vkyip @ Jul 16 2011, 02:49 PM) Really? How come I cannot. Did u have market enabler? bro, all this little implementation are not in OS level doesn't mean you cant use other FREE app to enable (disable data). you can download it from market for FREE! i would say its not fair to comment on Samsung/Google implementation of "UI" on OS level that doesn't come with a shortcut to allow you to turn of 3g, turn off data or etc. everybody has their own opinion or preference and there is no 100% perfect OS especially a mobile platform that cater to mass consumer market. why dont you ask the same question to other mobile platform such as BB, iOS, WP7? if you can find any of this OS allow you to turn on/off 3G within 2 clicks, then i will give in whatever you trying to say here. That's where the complain for the UI. Have to go all the way in the multiple level menus. Or have to pay for a widget, willing to pay for useful stuffs, not really willing to pay coz Sammy or Google did not do a good UI. Was hoping the UI would be more user friendly and have a shortcut to off data or 3G. Better than old Galaxy is not good. |

QUOTE(Proclaimer @ Jul 16 2011, 04:45 PM) Of course i know, if not i wouldnt be commenting that. the solution would be, battery technology. our battery technology for pass 10 years has not evolved much vs the other parts of the devices. more powerful CPU, bigger screenAll im saying sure all those steps reduce battery drain but phones are meant to be used regularly anyway, better find a solution that doesnt involve turning off things. I havent root and optimize my phone yet so i dont know how much optimization can be done to save how much percentage of battery. |

QUOTE(vkyip @ Jul 16 2011, 05:38 PM) I agree with with you but definitely the UI could be better. I've seen cynogenmod with a much better friendlier UI. But then again, I don't mind if these settings are nested in 10 levels, if I could leave them on all the time. The problem is that I can't leave em on all the time becoz I have to maximize battery time. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a good phone, but it would be great if the UI is more polished. Yes agreed that it could be better but that's their decision on the ui level and I always believe in the theory of never enough. Bear in mind that cyanogen is a customize rom that implementing most of the "suggested" features from consumer feedback and this consumer are not the consumer like us (phone savvy). Most of the consumer out there are just normal user that don't even know that they can turn 3g on/off. Imagine you slap cm rom to their phone, what would be the impact? They will confuse like hell. Yes, widgetsoid is great. We are the minority and if samsung/google decided to do so, we have to respect their decision. |

QUOTE(kazama82 @ Jul 16 2011, 10:56 PM) i am running 2G most of the time and i have no issue to retrieve my company's exchange mail and as well as gmailAdded on July 17, 2011, 3:32 am QUOTE(kazama82 @ Jul 16 2011, 11:18 PM) did you ever tried to surf or check email using 2G network?..I dont think we can..you still need to turn on data network to check email or surf..regardless GPRS/3G...as GPRS is consider data..without enable data network, you can only used for call/sms..just tried just now. guess you do not understand the definition of 2G. obviously data has to be enabled first and if your data is enabled and connected to 2G network (GPRS), i dont see the reason why you cant get push mailThis post has been edited by c010: Jul 17 2011, 03:32 AM |

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Jul 17 2011, 02:05 AM) I agree, EDGE is good enough for MOST tasks, but do you know that in certain conditions, EDGE has a nasty tendency to block SMSes and calls from coming in while data is active? Read up on GPRS classes. i dun understand. you mean this only happen to SGS2? been using this phone before it launched and running on Celcom line. i never have any issue as mentioned by you. It's not a phone thing, it's a telco thing. It happened with my Nokias (E71, N97, 5800, N900) and my iPhone 4 - it WIILL happen with the SGS2 unless Celcom decides to CLASS A all their EDGE transmitters. AND no, Maxis is NOT the answer, not with their current cekik darah billing practices. Anyway, WHERE IS MY BATTERY CASE SAMSUNG OII. I bought the SGS2 because YOU were supposed to make a battery extender case for it. Sigh. |
