Malaysia got rainy season, the road will get wet most of the time. I guess VSC is really necesary in Malaysia.  sweat.gif

EURO NCAP list VSC is one of the main criteria on the safety rating, so is quite important feature.

Speaking of the wet road, i had twice going through a pool of water on the road unprepared, pressing brake when reached and the car lose control, skid to the side of the road (one time nearly swerve and bang the car on my side), luckily after going through the water, i manage to regain control of the car (i had to turn the steering on different direction very fast). So to me, VSC must installed to the car to increase the driver & passenger safety on the road.  icon_rolleyes.gif

True.... my father skidded once in his previous car, while cruising aroun 70-80 km/h.... Slow speed...

No point denying.... VSC is a must....

Can check at utube, lotsa use of VSC in real life.... Those Euro NCAP test may seem 'harmless'.... Imagine what will happen to the car, if other drivers did not brake ?

VSC would prevent this, sort of countersteering the car.....

Yes, VSC is a must.... Hope we all will be wise and choose cars that are equipped with latest safety specs....

Summore big cars, the inertia is higher.... once u loose control, the momentum is higher and harder to control... icon_rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Yup, quite useful.... Kia Sorento got this.... Just flick the knob and the speed will increase a bit...
If u want say move from 100 km/h to 140 km/h, just hold it and it will accelerate until u release the knob (till u reach ur desired speed, u stop)....

About Citroen, gotta agree.... Form the reviews, yeah it's suspension is hard to beat...
Heck Citroen's is famous for it's suspension...

Hopefully Naza can revive Citroen.....  laugh.gif

Personally, I don't like cruise control, unless it is a total blank/no traffic highway.
Otherwise, in an uneven road, water, holes etc.
the car may try to accelerate to the pre-set speed if hitting those obstacle, quite dangerous for my liking.
Yes its best used in clear traffic or on highways. It also takes the joy out of driving.

Hopefully there is a way to take the current speed, otherwise clicking so many times will be annoying.

In some cars I know there is a 2nd button you can click to increase cruise by 10 km/h.
In the K5, u can also increase the speed by pushing the RES button. It will increase till you release.

Starting 2013, Euro NCAP has made Automatic Braking compulsory in all new cars. VSC is already a common requirement just like safety belts.

For NKVE, I would be damn happy if my car has adaptive cruise control. Something that's only found in the cars in the higher tier pricing group. Even better now coz continental cars next year which want 5 star EURONCAP ratings must now include the autonomous braking system. So adaptive cruise control + autonomous braking system = easier driving experience.

Which Passat 1.8 did u buy? CBU? I heard now VW offering RM8K discount for CBU and RM3K discount for CKD version in addition to 2 free services.

Approx OTR price (with insurance & tax) after discount is RM 184K (CBU) and RM 174K (CKD).

But i heard that VW after sales service not that good. Is it true or just isolated incidents at some SC's?

CKD, because basically it's a CBU with a CKD sticker slapped on it. I would have bought the CC if the pricing was better, it makes no sense to buy it now since it cost as much as the Audi A4.

But I wouldn't have minded another 2k discount on the Passat at all, DAMN!

No idea about the SC coz I haven't gone in yet, but since my uncle works in one of the service center as a mechanic there, I should have no problem.

Not just in Malaysia. Which is very odd, since... why would I want a Pug? Not as pretty. Not as modern. Not as cool. By far lacking in heritage (most advanced car maker in the world with very innovative and ahead of its time models vs standard fare). Not as comfortable. Yet Peugeot seems to be doing better. Very, very sad.

I am not sure I want Malaysians to have an easier driving experience though. They'll be texting more while driving, chatting along on the phone (please at least use a headset!), and just generally be distracted.

So far had a good experience at VW's Senai SC... I'm not an owner though, I just accompanied an owner. However if you make an appointment for service the next free slot will be in 2 weeks... they really need another SC (I'd expect them to be working on it).

Think holding the cruise control button to increase faster may be the way it's done in a Touran...

There's a new crash test (small overlap front test) in town and surprise surprise, most luxury vehicles barely passed it.

Now, I'm really curious how the new Camry or the KIA Optima would perform in this new test.

http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2012/08/mo...new-crash-test/

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/frontal_test_info.html

Most interestingly in the latter article:

"Given equivalent frontal ratings, the heavier of two vehicles usually offers better protection in real-world crashes. In 2009, the Institute demonstrated this principle with a series of tests in which small cars were crashed into larger cars, all of which had good frontal ratings in the moderate overlap test."

lexus, 3series, passat oso rated poor and so. gosh...
maybe prior to this new test, the manufacturer designs or apply safety measures to direct frontal hit. They took actual accident fatality stats to see what kind of accident happened the most, which stated trees, marginal frontal head to head collision, and put it into test. Very good lab test there. Hope it can benefit all

The driver's door of the Volkswagen CC ripped off during the IIHS crash test.

For those whom bashing others for being unheeded regarding safety when buying a car should buy S60, since S60 is one of the car that passed the test with a “good” rating.

I actually have no doubt even the Passat will fail this new test, let alone Camry or K5. Very likely the new Mazda 6 was designed not taking this test into consideration at all as well, so I also expect that car to fail this test.

they are expanding their list of SC's but most of them are pretty much 'normal service, nothing more than that' SCs. had to bring down my sister's car down to KL just to fix an airbag issue.

Errrrrmm. What about motorcycle (even luxury one)?

Guys, not sure if i asked this question before but for my K5, I get instant FC readings of 9.1L/100km at 110kmph and 10.20L/100km at 160kmph during highway drives. City driving not so economical for sure since the K5 is quite heavy and the torque not sufficient.

What's your instant FC readings during highway cruising? Camry, Audi, Passat?

Fastest I go also about 140 so far, no chance to go faster because some jackass is always in the way and I happen to drive in City more than I drive highway

Instant reading: 7.8L/100km @ 90km/hr, 8.9L/100km @ 120km/hr?

FC is most efficient in the 80 to 90km/hr range

But I'm constantly stuck for the most part between 40 to 80km/hr hence my fuelly score ain't that good tongue.gif

Quite good FC at 120kmph. That's the advantage of the 7 speed DSG i guess. So getting 9.1L/100km at 110kmph on a 6 speed K5 is quite ok rite? I took these readings about a month back i think. Will be going for my 2nd service this week. Will do another check after that and see if FC has improved over time.

I did a 1 day run last week from KL to Ipoh, then around Ipoh for 1 hr, then up to BM, then Penang Island, then back to Ipoh, then onward to KL. About 80% highway at 170kmph, the rest in town traffic. Used up 1 full tank and covered 760kmph.
