if im lucky i can get some keli, patin and snakehead but .. the other day i tried fishing in that pond day time for a while, lots of fish playing on the water grabbing some breathing

my hometown is in sitiawan perak. don't ask me why i don't fish around there. places that can be reached by vehicles are overfished already

can recommend you fishing ponds but i dont think they provide fishing equipment.

most of the people there play lucky strike or cowboy. meaning you put bread on your swivel, with around 5centimetres of leader and ur hook, then when you feel a tug, just strike and most of the time will foul hook the fish.

they would charge for the rods.mind as well u just get a new rod..economic beginner set would cost u less then 100 bucks.

they also use worms and snails.. and they already long time no fish there, so prolly got some big fish in there (it's vegetable farm actually, the owner just put the pond there for the workers to self sustain themselves)

yeah the rod was quite sturdy so I'm happy with it. My previous one was quite long and heavy
it was a beginner set that cost me rm80 only with size 5000 reel ready and also nylon string 100M. Good enough for beginner. Have been using that for more than 4 months now
plus i quite a lot fishing nowadays, can say past 2 months plus every weekend no miss go fishing.. but still yet to get some decent sizes one
now gonna try my old time fav, freshwater fishing. Been a long time since i do this one

u'll actually really need a very expert/regular kaki coz of thier power mixture of baits.
FYI, they dont share thier receipe.btw. u'll find there alot of katak reel users
there all very hard except for the pacu theres.
1 spring middle(PALETS mixture with pandan power liquid) and a single hook (palets on the hooks) cast as far middle u can.
pacu weight up to 5 - 6 kg right after u cast hold ur rod for 30 secs like that 50/50 u might get a pacu hooked on straight.
for others i know is 2 split leader 1 stone and and few cubes of pandan liquided bread.

maybe too many fishing kaki surf here also haha

didn't fish in that pond before, but my friend went there to kepoh kepoh before. he said fishes there are mega but super hard to get them to whack your bait. got jackpot every week. he said no floats are allowed. and there's very thick weed on the bottom of the pond. so people use long leaders with hook in the middle and batu on the end in order to get their bait right in between the surface and the bed. need to be very precise though my friend said. anyway, good luck

sealion u will need skills man...i went there 5 times and guess what sealion 5 me 0! thats how bad...those that kena fishes are regulars and know how the fish behave and how to get them to eat the bait.

i takut already sealion and wont go back there at least for another few months

You mean how much for Sealion?
They have 5 ponds there. 4 ponds are RM15/hour if im not mistaken and their Kolam Perdana is RM25/hour.
I went there few weeks ago to their Kolam Perdana just to look and saw many people got fishes 2kd and above. There was one pakcik who got a 5.25kg grouper when i was about to leave.

so syok lah u ppl there so many ponds can go
make me drool only..

pond all need paid one i prefer go abandon pond or dam or sungai sungai .. FOC no fish also enjoy the day men .

Added on July 2, 2011, 3:47 amHere are some tips for fishing at river (saltwater) Try to find rocks. big rocks at the shore or side of the river. If you have a boat. Use fishfinder and see how big and how far is the rocks below. Scan properly. Till u reach a place where the fishfinder starts to beeps and you see alot of fishes in the screen. Do not park on top of it. If the water is going up. Land your anchour 4 yards before the so called rumah ikan. and then let go of the anchour rope until u see that you are atleast 1 yard before the house. Just dont want to scare the fish. So, use live prawns as bait. Also can use baby crabs. Its good for hunting groupers. It really works. If you dont have a fishfinder. Hunt by throwing your bait at the root of pokok bakau as there are normaly ikan siakap merah, sembilang. they like to hide there..

Not really.If you get a good spot then 5kg kerapu's are common.

may i noe what meaning of strike the fish?
means my setup will be few hook....when smal fish is around atleast i will strike something....but for sure its no big fish?

strike meaning letting your hook set into the fish's jaw. eg, you feel something took your bait but you're not sure whether the fish is hooked or the fish is just biting your bait. striking is when you set the tension on your line and you pull your rod backwars so that the hook kena fish's jaw. but cowboy strike is just to foul hook the fish since the bait is on the swivel instead the hook.

pulau ketam is near klang area ryte? If it is then ive been there. There are good placs there. Thats why as i said. You must know the types of fish. Which fish lives in which area. Using boat is the best bet. Fish with scales are always located near "batu karang" @ Coral's. In river also got corals. Fish without scales like ikan sembilang, ikan duri, those kind of fish loves muddy areas, Ikan pari @ stingray they love to hang around outside the "batu karang" cuz waiting for the fish to come out and play. So, for instance. If you are hunting kerapu. Find coral reefs. If you are hunting sembilang, wait for the water to run fast like when its in the middle of high tide not "pasang penuh" example. 8pm is when high tide meaning air penuh. so go around 6pm. but the water is fast so use a size 4 - 6 and also, tukak @ small stingray love those kind of water. If you were to hunt ikan tanda merah, kerapu, tirusan, its better to park where corals are located. You will surely get a bite. If you are hunting for stingray, park just before the coral reef or the "rumah ikan". Ok, now talk about baits. Muara @ river, the best is still prawns. Live prawns. The second i prefer is those little crabs, then belanak. Its better to prepare a few types of bait as fish tends to change thier diet depending on water tempreature. And then feeding times. Mostly fish are in a feeding frenzy when the water is just about to pasang. Example. 6.00pm water already low tide. 7.00pm water starting to come into the river. That is the best time as the sea brings diffrent type of food and the river banks where prawns live, fish will go there. Try my advice and sorry for my broken ENGLAND

Last sat morning went for saltwater fish, only get a decent ketambak but so far that's my best. New fishing gear rocks, easily can pull the fish up.. dunno with bigger fish yet hehe

sat evening went for freshwater pond.. found out from the locals there, they call ikan gabus is actually the snakeheads, couldn't get chicken intestines so I used prawns, they bite bit but then went quiet.

Then i use the bait and pull back just like frog jumping in the water, the fish grabbed onto it 6 to 7 times but I couldn't land it cos it didn't swallow. I guess it may be good for some casting. Nite fishing totally no bite after an hour or so.. guess no catfish there..

the heavy rain from before, made it hard to get into that place, next time need a bigger hilux/4WD car, my kenari almost got stuck there in the mud.. thank God I didn't.. if not I am far away from home, that is a outskirt area, I was alone and my phone credit just went poof..my car looked like just out from some adventure after that

I have a pelamis reel too. Looks okay but kinda heavy.

ic, i tried one of the pelamis (forgot model) 10+1 bearings, was quite smooth as the handle drops by itself and spins when hanging half way shows the smoothness, good drag as well i think
price was below rm100 even
any good review on it fellow fishing kakis?

Don't expect anything decent from a sub 100 buck reel and you'll be changing reel more often if you fish alot in saltwater. heheh what you pay what you get bro

other sifu sifu here use daiwa, shimano, avet, abu garcia and etc top brand kekekke one reel may cost from 400 ~3k. If you are serious with fishing.. kasi pain one time, no need buy so many chap ayam gears...straight away take shimano STELLA or daiwa Certate liou no need think so much

aww ic.. hmm well this one just for spare lah. I tested the Pelamis vs Penn, totally can't compare with Penn even though Pelamis with 10 bearings and Penn with only 4 bearings

I wonder why Penn reels don't have reverse rotation? It can only go one way, there are no switch/lever that you can change it to reverse the rotation..

Sifu items sure diff ah.. Can't compare de. still not that level yet so not gonna spend that much. It's about weighing how much you're willing to spend and I'm just not gonna spend that much yet .. for now anyway hehe

who knows in the future yeah? when that time comes, yeah one time pain is better

example, 100 buck reel, you use 1 year... bearing, drag, shaft, drag, spool condemn. Then you buy another 100 buck reel again and the same thing repeat n repeat until N year.. the amount spent on chap ayam reel may get you a very decent reel which could last you for quite some time. Those rm 300-500 daiwa/ shimano reel is good enough. Even my daiwa freamJ already about 4 years old and it's still rocks

i went to a paid fresh water pond to try and catch baung (pak sou kong) fish. use cacing as bait and cast near by only. tried 2 method...float with single hook and normal twin hook. that time at night very hard to see my damn float if got baung makan or not so i changed to twin hook. cast out and start to reel in super slowly and use my left hand to pull the string very sloooowly as in cm by cm....pulll long enough already no fish bite reel abit in and start to use hand to pull the string again.

Now here is the problem...i can feel nibble on rod but no hard bites. so im guessing its small fish below nibbling at it. did that same routine for 2 hours and no baung bite at all. beside me got 2 more fella doing the same thing as me...they also no bite and suddenly they get a bite they pull the baung in and after that no bite again for a long time. it was at night that time and fore sure baung was not eating like it should in the morning.

not sure if i am doing the same pulling string method correctly or not but how come i cannot get baung to bite? i can feel small nibble but no hard bites. those guys that use this method will know if the baung eat the bait and they will let the fish eat syok syok before hantam the fish to reel back. everytime i get a nibble i let go the string abit...and pull abit to see got feel or not...sometimes i feel got small nibble i let it go again. and then i will pull again the string and see if still got nibble or not but then no more nibble...and i reel back in and start the string pulling method again.

you guys tried this reel, pull string slow slow method before on baung? if you have how do u know if the baung eaten the bait already?some how this method is like how u play with live prawns for sea fish (eg sea lion pond). Lots of people use this method at paid fresh water pond and yet get lots of bites (mostly i see is in the day time only baung eat alot).

hope ya guys can teach me some tricks how to get baung to eat my bait and know when baung really taken the bait. im not that pro at fresh water fishing yet

dont think so le bro . guess what i have a tica reel which fall under 100 buck reel and it been serving me more thn 6 year !!!!!!! , but i didnt use it in between the 3 year le , so equally 3 year of usage !!!! and yet it serve me well untill now ....... when im back in to the game i brought another 3 reel . 2 ajiking under rm 100 & okuma below 200 .

still in tip top condition now . it depend how you guy taking care of the thing men .

I kena poison by hookin up a 4kg plus angjoh on strong current, using #18 lead sinker, the depth was about 220ft. A fight which I couldn't forget until now



tica n ajiking belong to capayam group meh ? lol I thought tica were created by some ex shimano fellas. Anyway those cheap reel with anti rust/ weather sealed bearing should be ok, but those without anti rust on bearing after few round use on saltwater... no need wait for a year already can say bye bye liou.. coz it somehow transformed into cement mixer

lol cap ayam... i use daiwa D wave 50003bi, okuma halogen LX and daiwa opusbull reels. Cheap but strong.. that Daiwa D Wave catch ikan talang2 at 9kg very easy to land. That okuma halogen caught its heaviest 4kg kerapu. That opusbull no need say la... we all know the strength. My rods are Lemax Firestick Limited Edition PE 4 - 6, Ofmer hammerjig pe 2 - 4 and Shakespere Uglystick tiger (old model from my father giv) to use to go saltwater fishing.. Ok la.. Still consider below RM300 per reel and serves me good. After fishing in saltwater, i normaly wash my reels and 1 in 3 month i send them in for servicing. Pelamis is just good for freshwater. For saltwater, find something that has a solid body, aloi, u noe, those non rusty equipment. And they can be found at cheap price like my daiwa D Wave 50003Bi cost me only RM230. My daiwa opusbull cost RM290. My okuma Halogen LX cost me RM255. See, nothing above RM300.

no la brada ....... " not " tica or ajiking.

Team TICA is diffrent story. Those are expensive reels. Ajiking the only powerfull reels are (personaly own before) Jigmaster and thier WAHOO 6000. that Wahoo 6000 is a 30KG drag. and that Ajiking Jigmaster can reel with ease number 24 lead. even a shimano also release thier cheap product. Dosent mean that the brand of stuff and its cheap will be consider bullcrap stuff. Every company have thier flagship for example. Daiwa Saltiga? Shimano sustain PE, Ajiking Wahoo, Tomman Jerker 8000 (cant find it now), banax kairos,

brudda opusbull now where can get under 300 ler??? i think 3-5 years ago can la but now it should park under the 350 buck range liou
gua mia freamJ 4500 cost me about RM280 when i bought it before the major price hike .. now the pricing should be around 400 liou but different mumbo jumbo design ler. The last i check for pricing was last Jan now tarak sure.

hahaa i know chap ayam brand and I wont ever buy cap ayam again. I dont care how many hundred bearing they have but mostly tipu mia when you disassemble the reel straight away can see max 3 bearing + 1 anti reverse and 1 line roller bearing only

yeah...those twin hooks are for bottom and on earth worms and i purposely put alot on the hook. get nimble only and that also i think is small fishes kacao. how la wanna catch baung fish like that if dunno technique right or wrong

yeah bearing is nothing much important for me . maybe i still not getting in the bearing stuff .

i guess ball bearings are for the smoothness of reeling up and down. I don't think it help in casting better for spinning reels. Im not sure for baitcasting type. Never used one before.

for saltwater, i guess stainless steel bearings are more prefered so won't get any 'karat' that fast

More important is the drag system for me.. say the more precision dragging the better so when you get big fish, u can use the drag to control. I learned this the hard way when I lost a big fish and my good fren explained to me thru chat what was the drag for.

chicken heart or earth worms also can 1
for earth worth method just tie a long leader ( depends of the depth of the pond 2 - 3 feet away ) and a floater, chicken heart just split leader 2 hooks lo = =

those cap ayam brand reels are like sure catch, tomman.
but i think sure catch are improving thier designs and quality.nt like last time all plastic reels

i still have a surecatch. alloy body. bought at year 2006. now the drag lost power already... use for apollo only.. ehehehehe..... ARB = anti rust bearings are good for saltwater but mind u. its expensive

But i guess if you do take care of your reels, eg. properly grease it time to time to protect it from getting rust would help as well

Anyone of you know where we could get these grease things besides from car/bike workshop? I don't see this thing sold commonly anywhere..

Plus another thing is not to get the reels splashed with saltwater i guess, if you are careful with it, I don't think normal usage in saltwater would make it go rusted very fast, would it?

during fishing baung no need to worry 'bout small nible one... if spot, bait and technique correct... your rod will definately flying one for sure... MuaHaHaHa...

aiyoh.. don't use that grease lar... use spray silicon grease instead... got sell at selected tackle shop...

well, my reels are just easy. Espcially my okuma. I dont need any screwdrivers. and the rest i just normaly open n remember the parts. the manual given i dunno where i put. hehehe... but if you are not comfident. give it to someone who knows how. To tell u all the truth, shops also uses heavy machinery grease for those saltwater types. If you always (5 times a week) saltwater fishing (not pond saltwater) then its better cuz its heavy duty. Saltwater if you use normal grease, teritup will start to stick and you can see white powder around the spool that is salt. Use WD40 is ok but dont use too much. it tends to "kikis" metel. use it only when neccesary

hey guys my friends are organizing a trip to ipoh,tronoh CnR pond.
est cost for the trip is around 200rm max for per person 1 day trip including fishing, eating,petrol fees(car pool) and visiting the kellies castle.

can't join, im in sabah
anyone knows who or where in sabah I can charter boat to go somewhere near pulau for a day trip fishing around rm200+

Today i went to a local fishing store and found the uglystik for RM170. i say WAH SO CHEAP so i asked the salesman why so cheap. he say this rod came with 2 ring pecah. so sell cheap and then repair yourself. but FUJI SIC rings are not cheap. lol.. but its worth it tho... uglystik are expensive...

problem is most of the local tackle store which sells uglystik most of them are made in china instead of usa
nt to say china made rods are totally fake.but just that the diffs is in the craftsmanship

USA rods are normaly 6ft and no joints. just 1 piece. Well for u rm150 mayb cheap there but in kuching here the cheapest will be around RM200.

10 bearing? zzz better u go for those AntiRustBearings = ARB bearings. 10 bearings no way. If you open the reels, count the bearings inside. does it reach 10? For finding a reel, its better you go for

1. Line capacity
2. Body toughness
3. Anti Rust @ saltwater useage (to be on the safe side)
4. Drag limit (how many KG can lift)
5. Smoothness
6. Weight
7. Purpose (Bottom, Jigging, Floating, Popping, Casting, Trolling)

btw..i found a tackle shop selling d ultra-lite graphite 6 feet for rm137
mmm i used to own 1 5ft uglystik,it might b really good on its flexiblity n sensitivity..but i don really like it.most prolly coz of the glass tip which is actually quite hard for me to cast heavy baits..
lol recalling it when i clip on the spring with heavy baits my rod already bend in a U shape

Added on July 11, 2011, 2:23 pm and yes yesterday was a total bad luck of 0 catch at semeyih dam , and yet i use 3 different bait !!!!!

with 4 rod lagi ...... no bite no nothing before . damn no luck .

i use dedak , live bait lampam , and live anak tilapia , result 0 bite . use it for toman got la but tomman all 1 kaki size long only . still kira no catch

about the 10 bearings, yeah very true
you can compare a 10 bearing so so brand with a 3 bearing real brand like shimano, daiwa, penn etc.. 10 bearing cannot fight with even 3 bearing ones..

Fish report: Last sat morning went saltwater, nothing caught
But because of the Bersih thing and police road blocks, there was a bad jam so I decided to get baits and get it ready for my afternoon freshwater fish

First try at a mix pond of saltwater and freshwater, nothing caught. The birds there keep flying over the pond and grab the small small fish for food..

Next try around 4pm I went to the same old pool, used 2 rods, one spinning which i used for casting with a fake frog, and another extendable bamboo style

Bamboo style with float = 2 labi-labi, caught and let go (No wonder no fish bite my bait, ish these labi-labi there)
Casting style = around 11 times got answer
Out of the 11 times the fish tried to grab the fake frog, 2 times miscall (fish was on target but when I reel in the line, it startled and flew away around 1 Meter in the air) & 2 times caught Toman.. not so big size, just so so only

Next day : found another pond, more like the water to go into the paddy field and so on.
Casting : Only 1 time answered, why the fish so blind one ahhh??!
Using float : Caught only 1 Toman, quite a small size only
Camped till nite around 8.30pm.. No Keli bite.. dam! I duno where here got keli can fish, I love when they bite, non stop one haha

I think it is cheap enough, and near malaysia , around 1hour trip from bukit kayu hitam.

Im from ipoh btw

but when i go for LFS .....
i wan daiwa....they recomend thoose cap ayam for me....
they said daiwa is made in china....the cap ayam he holdng is taiwan....

anyways.....whr i should go and choose my daiwa by granteed original
