dont think so le bro . guess what i have a tica reel which fall under 100 buck reel and it been serving me more thn 6 year !!!!!!! , but i didnt use it in between the 3 year le , so equally 3 year of usage !!!! and yet it serve me well untill now ....... when im back in to the game i brought another 3 reel . 2 ajiking under rm 100 & okuma below 200 .

still in tip top condition now . it depend how you guy taking care of the thing men .

atleast Rm50 and above reel for 1k series . just my opinion .

i went to a paid fresh water pond to try and catch baung (pak sou kong) fish. use cacing as bait and cast near by only. tried 2 method...float with single hook and normal twin hook. that time at night very hard to see my damn float if got baung makan or not so i changed to twin hook. cast out and start to reel in super slowly and use my left hand to pull the string very sloooowly as in cm by cm....pulll long enough already no fish bite reel abit in and start to use hand to pull the string again.

Now here is the problem...i can feel nibble on rod but no hard bites. so im guessing its small fish below nibbling at it. did that same routine for 2 hours and no baung bite at all. beside me got 2 more fella doing the same thing as me...they also no bite and suddenly they get a bite they pull the baung in and after that no bite again for a long time. it was at night that time and fore sure baung was not eating like it should in the morning.

not sure if i am doing the same pulling string method correctly or not but how come i cannot get baung to bite? i can feel small nibble but no hard bites. those guys that use this method will know if the baung eat the bait and they will let the fish eat syok syok before hantam the fish to reel back. everytime i get a nibble i let go the string abit...and pull abit to see got feel or not...sometimes i feel got small nibble i let it go again. and then i will pull again the string and see if still got nibble or not but then no more nibble...and i reel back in and start the string pulling method again.

you guys tried this reel, pull string slow slow method before on baung? if you have how do u know if the baung eaten the bait already?some how this method is like how u play with live prawns for sea fish (eg sea lion pond). Lots of people use this method at paid fresh water pond and yet get lots of bites (mostly i see is in the day time only baung eat alot).

hope ya guys can teach me some tricks how to get baung to eat my bait and know when baung really taken the bait. im not that pro at fresh water fishing yet

lol cap ayam... i use daiwa D wave 50003bi, okuma halogen LX and daiwa opusbull reels. Cheap but strong.. that Daiwa D Wave catch ikan talang2 at 9kg very easy to land. That okuma halogen caught its heaviest 4kg kerapu. That opusbull no need say la... we all know the strength. My rods are Lemax Firestick Limited Edition PE 4 - 6, Ofmer hammerjig pe 2 - 4 and Shakespere Uglystick tiger (old model from my father giv) to use to go saltwater fishing.. Ok la.. Still consider below RM300 per reel and serves me good. After fishing in saltwater, i normaly wash my reels and 1 in 3 month i send them in for servicing. Pelamis is just good for freshwater. For saltwater, find something that has a solid body, aloi, u noe, those non rusty equipment. And they can be found at cheap price like my daiwa D Wave 50003Bi cost me only RM230. My daiwa opusbull cost RM290. My okuma Halogen LX cost me RM255. See, nothing above RM300.

Just baught my lowrance fishfinder and GPS model HDS 10 for RM3k.. Cheaper than Garmin.. Gonna buy new boat.. Thinking of something like 45feet long 9 feed wide with a Hino Turbo diesel engine.. Hi everyone......
                          Its been a while since I have been deep sea fishing, normally fish at jetty in Tawau, however I have been given a chance to fish for tuna or some big fishes  in 200M of water, by poor ABU is not up to the task hahahaha only around maybe 6-10KG of drag with carbontex drag washers with Cal's grease.....anyway to cut a long story short....I am looking for Shimano reels, especially the Shimano Talica II hmmmmmm may be I can get away with  the 12 or 16.....or 20 max....... though I prefer a smaller reel, as I can prolly use it for bottom, light jigging....does anyone know of a reputable store that has a online website?

Does anyone know what the going rate for the Talica II are going for? I THINK if this trip after Raya is successful....I may go out every 2 weeks or may be once a month depend on sea/weather and off course $$$$ lah.....

I am not that new to fishing , but its been a while since the 'burning passion' has been ignited lol,hope someone can help, thanks in advance!

I don't mind abit of backplay , I think I will use the 2 speeds for the type of fishing I do. Also you point me in the right direction on where you bought your Talica and for how much, +/-, if price sensitive can PM me also can, how much line can you fit in your Talica 16?

Hmmm these few days I have been researching rods, as I already know what reel I want, but you actually need the rod to compliment the reel and vice versa....alot of people put alot of emphasis on the reel and just buy a chaparang rod....if the rod no power and you buy a quality reel that can output 8-30KG of drag.......and if you are not harnessed in a fighting chair,be prepared to go off the boat......

Alot of Malaysian anglers swear by Thomas Stroker rods....anyone have any experience with this rod? I am either looking for Calstar rods,or Daiwa Saltiga rods....maybe Shimano rods.....but not easy to find x-p
