Don't expect anything decent from a sub 100 buck reel and you'll be changing reel more often if you fish alot in saltwater. heheh what you pay what you get bro
other sifu sifu here use daiwa, shimano, avet, abu garcia and etc top brand kekekke one reel may cost from 400 ~3k. If you are serious with fishing.. kasi pain one time, no need buy so many chap ayam gears...straight away take shimano STELLA or daiwa Certate liou no need think so much |

QUOTE(fookie @ Jul 5 2011, 11:54 AM) yau mou.. this wan like.. getting a sports car for every use leh.. hahaha yeah ler unker spent too much on junk reel last time, those 100 buck mia spinning reel i think i had at least 8 of them or more as i lost count hahha all were either thrown away by my mom during spring cleaning or my cousin bungkus liou shoot@m3, get a lower end daiwa is the best la.. like me, get a daiwa exceler for RM300. never fail to serve me. Added on July 5, 2011, 2:23 pm QUOTE(Shoot@M3 @ Jul 5 2011, 02:03 PM) not too much, those reel were durable, it's much more cheaper in the long run example, 100 buck reel, you use 1 year... bearing, drag, shaft, drag, spool condemn. Then you buy another 100 buck reel again and the same thing repeat n repeat until N year.. the amount spent on chap ayam reel may get you a very decent reel which could last you for quite some time. Those rm 300-500 daiwa/ shimano reel is good enough. Even my daiwa freamJ already about 4 years old and it's still rocks This post has been edited by nicotine: Jul 5 2011, 02:23 PM |

QUOTE(Shoot@M3 @ Jul 5 2011, 02:51 PM) ah icic, yeah makes sense.. good advices from those who already went thru beginner .. you need to wait for your final poison injection only... a damn big fish that make ya adrenaline pumping the thing is also, most beginner would not know if they are going to stay long in this hobby, thus would not spend that much at first, but that said, can still sell off for 2nd hand Yeap, i get what you mean. i will sure upgrade in the future if got chance and if I'm already really into fishing For now I just get what I need first then thx for all the input and advices It's only tuesday and I can't stop thinking about weekends haha, must be from stressful job Just talked to a colleague, if got chance we might go for a day trip boat fishing near some Pulau here in Kota Kinabalu. We'll see how it goes. Fellow Sabahan, if you're interested, drop me a line cos we may need few people to go hehe Long live fishing! I kena poison by hookin up a 4kg plus angjoh on strong current, using #18 lead sinker, the depth was about 220ft. A fight which I couldn't forget until now QUOTE(whoknowz @ Jul 5 2011, 03:24 PM) dont think so le bro . guess what i have a tica reel which fall under 100 buck reel and it been serving me more thn 6 year !!!!!!! , but i didnt use it in between the 3 year le , so equally 3 year of usage !!!! and yet it serve me well untill now ....... when im back in to the game i brought another 3 reel . 2 ajiking under rm 100 & okuma below 200 . tica n ajiking belong to capayam group meh ? lol I thought tica were created by some ex shimano fellas. Anyway those cheap reel with anti rust/ weather sealed bearing should be ok, but those without anti rust on bearing after few round use on saltwater... no need wait for a year already can say bye bye liou.. coz it somehow transformed into cement mixer still in tip top condition now . it depend how you guy taking care of the thing men . Added on July 5, 2011, 3:31 pmthe only thing i would not suggest is to buy those chap ayam brand . chap ayam brand is the worse case senario . noneed half year problem will start to come out d . atleast Rm50 and above reel for 1k series . just my opinion . Added on July 5, 2011, 5:08 pm QUOTE(barney @ Jul 5 2011, 02:50 PM) i went to a paid fresh water pond to try and catch baung (pak sou kong) fish. use cacing as bait and cast near by only. tried 2 method...float with single hook and normal twin hook. that time at night very hard to see my damn float if got baung makan or not so i changed to twin hook. cast out and start to reel in super slowly and use my left hand to pull the string very sloooowly as in cm by cm....pulll long enough already no fish bite reel abit in and start to use hand to pull the string again. have you tried bottom method ? those fella loves earth worms. Now here is the problem...i can feel nibble on rod but no hard bites. so im guessing its small fish below nibbling at it. did that same routine for 2 hours and no baung bite at all. beside me got 2 more fella doing the same thing as me...they also no bite and suddenly they get a bite they pull the baung in and after that no bite again for a long time. it was at night that time and fore sure baung was not eating like it should in the morning. not sure if i am doing the same pulling string method correctly or not but how come i cannot get baung to bite? i can feel small nibble but no hard bites. those guys that use this method will know if the baung eat the bait and they will let the fish eat syok syok before hantam the fish to reel back. everytime i get a nibble i let go the string abit...and pull abit to see got feel or not...sometimes i feel got small nibble i let it go again. and then i will pull again the string and see if still got nibble or not but then no more nibble...and i reel back in and start the string pulling method again. you guys tried this reel, pull string slow slow method before on baung? if you have how do u know if the baung eaten the bait already?some how this method is like how u play with live prawns for sea fish (eg sea lion pond). Lots of people use this method at paid fresh water pond and yet get lots of bites (mostly i see is in the day time only baung eat alot). hope ya guys can teach me some tricks how to get baung to eat my bait and know when baung really taken the bait. im not that pro at fresh water fishing yet This post has been edited by nicotine: Jul 5 2011, 05:08 PM |

QUOTE(HeLLonEarTH @ Jul 5 2011, 05:56 PM) lol cap ayam... i use daiwa D wave 50003bi, okuma halogen LX and daiwa opusbull reels. Cheap but strong.. that Daiwa D Wave catch ikan talang2 at 9kg very easy to land. That okuma halogen caught its heaviest 4kg kerapu. That opusbull no need say la... we all know the strength. My rods are Lemax Firestick Limited Edition PE 4 - 6, Ofmer hammerjig pe 2 - 4 and Shakespere Uglystick tiger (old model from my father giv) to use to go saltwater fishing.. Ok la.. Still consider below RM300 per reel and serves me good. After fishing in saltwater, i normaly wash my reels and 1 in 3 month i send them in for servicing. Pelamis is just good for freshwater. For saltwater, find something that has a solid body, aloi, u noe, those non rusty equipment. And they can be found at cheap price like my daiwa D Wave 50003Bi cost me only RM230. My daiwa opusbull cost RM290. My okuma Halogen LX cost me RM255. See, nothing above RM300. brudda opusbull now where can get under 300 ler??? i think 3-5 years ago can la but now it should park under the 350 buck range liou gua mia freamJ 4500 cost me about RM280 when i bought it before the major price hike .. now the pricing should be around 400 liou but different mumbo jumbo design ler. The last i check for pricing was last Jan now tarak sure. QUOTE(whoknowz @ Jul 5 2011, 06:00 PM) no la brada ....... " not " tica or ajiking. hahaa i know chap ayam brand and I wont ever buy cap ayam again. I dont care how many hundred bearing they have but mostly tipu mia when you disassemble the reel straight away can see max 3 bearing + 1 anti reverse and 1 line roller bearing only chap ayam really chap ayam mia brand . with wierd wierd name one . maybe my gramma mistake ... heheh sorry ya . for me " tica " and " ajiking " belong to mid end user . Added on July 5, 2011, 6:02 pmmy side i have nothing more thn Rm200 wahahahahahahhaaha . and it serve me so well untill now . Added on July 5, 2011, 6:05 pmFor me ya ....... tomman is a low end brand and almost fall under chap ayam brand wahahahahha . so you know what i mean chap ayama wahahahah |

QUOTE(praetorian @ Jul 28 2011, 07:52 PM) Hi everyone...... got get talica ! I had a talica 16 ( single speed) it's awesome I love it !! Its been a while since I have been deep sea fishing, normally fish at jetty in Tawau, however I have been given a chance to fish for tuna or some big fishes in 200M of water, by poor ABU is not up to the task hahahaha only around maybe 6-10KG of drag with carbontex drag washers with Cal's grease.....anyway to cut a long story short....I am looking for Shimano reels, especially the Shimano Talica II hmmmmmm may be I can get away with the 12 or 16.....or 20 max....... though I prefer a smaller reel, as I can prolly use it for bottom, light jigging....does anyone know of a reputable store that has a online website? Does anyone know what the going rate for the Talica II are going for? I THINK if this trip after Raya is successful....I may go out every 2 weeks or may be once a month depend on sea/weather and off course $$$$ lah..... I am not that new to fishing , but its been a while since the 'burning passion' has been ignited lol, hope someone can help, thanks in advance! for talica two speed series, I think you might need to check it out urself first ler, it's anti-reverse mechanisme were like those old skool reel where there's some back play, i dont like those feeling that's what make me get the single speed version QUOTE(fookie @ Jul 29 2011, 04:01 AM) tq for advertising for me hahahah, if no ppl want .. I think i'll use it to pancing sotong liou |

QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 12 2011, 06:40 AM) Sorry for the late reply. Yhaaa can you give me your own personal experience with your talica? That reel is super smoooth, light and fast. Cranking heavy sinker is effortless and lovely alarm/clicker sound for show off during fish fight I don't mind abit of backplay , I think I will use the 2 speeds for the type of fishing I do. Also you point me in the right direction on where you bought your Talica and for how much, +/-, if price sensitive can PM me also can, how much line can you fit in your Talica 16? I got my talica from ocean tackle (ah boy) around 1k~1.1k, as for line I had forgotten, if I'm not mistaken should be around 300~400m 65lbs powerpro braid. Added on August 15, 2011, 2:46 pm QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 12 2011, 12:34 PM) Hmmm these few days I have been researching rods, as I already know what reel I want, but you actually need the rod to compliment the reel and vice versa....alot of people put alot of emphasis on the reel and just buy a chaparang rod....if the rod no power and you buy a quality reel that can output 8-30KG of drag.......and if you are not harnessed in a fighting chair,be prepared to go off the boat...... cheap stuff, try shimano backbone series, rod series start from 10kg until 25kg. I had 2 unit of 15kg series and it's does get the job done Alot of Malaysian anglers swear by Thomas Stroker rods....anyone have any experience with this rod? I am either looking for Calstar rods,or Daiwa Saltiga rods....maybe Shimano rods.....but not easy to find x-p expensive stuff, shimano triton game or tiagra ultra.
