Samba 101

A lot of people talk but never done Samba. Here is how for Himedia.

#1. Settings/Other/Samba...enable

This starts the service only...but it got nothing to do yet

#2. Launch HiDLNA.apk (my q16 or similar for others)...select sharing, then select "drives" &/ folders to share...

Edit: PS... I read q10 pro uses happycast & not HiDLNA, and mount only sd1...so need to investigate further... sad.gif

Himedia uses this system app to manage sharing...this tells Samba what to do....you're now done !!! laugh.gif

Now you can use Windows/Mac/Linux/Android/iPhone to read from & write to the box. PCs have native client built-in, phones need to make sure the file manager got "remote" or "network" function.

My earlier example was using phone to access box via Wi-Fi @ 192.168.0.103...thru Samba.

Note all devices must be connected to the same network ip/subnet...usually not a problem with most people. If you have more than one router network or run DDNS...you know what to do laugh.gif

Samba 101...Kodi smile.gif

Now some folks just love Kodi...runs everything in Kodi, even boot into Kodi... laugh.gif

For you folks, there should be an option to share your box to your phone and PC... Go check Network Settings and set it up there. I said "should" because it's been ages since I've used Kodi. It's there in XBMC, I don't supposed it has changed much laugh.gif

Yes HDD slotted inside the q10 pro.

Use any colour USB post also cannot see any drive/PC/network inside PC. I suppose it is because it is a 3tb drive or the size of sector format in NTFS is not what is expected.

Anyone else with experience?

My friend gave away his Himedia Q6II emmc to me after upgrade. I was try to install Kodi via playstore but can't becauses it stated the Android version not supported. I would like to check:

1) What is the latest firmware for the Q6II and how to download it? I have search but found many version, not sure which is correct one.
2) How to install Kodi?

1. No idea. However, what's your current android version? Higher or lower than 5.0?

2. Can download the apk file from Kodi downloads page. Version 17 for Android 5.0 and above.. Version 16.1 for lower android versions.

4.2.2 cannot install kodi17.
Stay with 16.1.
I doubt there is firmware to upgrade to android5 for this box.

Yeah, check around and if there's an official update? Update first. Else, no updates as AVFAN mentioned, then have to stick to the current firmware.

Kodi v16.1 direct download.

Thanks for the advice.

Since most of the installed apps originally installed not working, I guess I will give it a clean up and uninstall them, to free up the memory.

Yep.. Performing a factory reset is ideal. Being a gift and all.. Then setup as you would prefer.

Yes, it will the best way to get first experience, learn the basics.
Thats the kind of box i had as a first!

I think it is a 2/8gb emmc.
You will find it a bit slow but it will work for the most part.
If u find kodi not working well, check the memory... may be too small to do much.
Usb playback should be ok incl hd audio if the firmware is the last one.

Using my HiMedia 600A to play the movie from my NAS, dont have this problem?

Can anyone know whats is wrong, any optimisation for the Q5 or Kodi?

Check your modem/router speed.

And your NAS streaming speed.

I tried it with a 66GB TS video on my Q5 Pro. Only sound, no video. Similar sound-no picture with TS reported on the net (but don't know which TV boxes they are using). Maybe my Pana TV is not up to the standard? Thought it can downgrade the picture to suit the TV.

Tried it with VLC on Q5 Pro, got sound and picture, but the picture was breaking out. Can play AOK with VLC on my PC.

Can play other videos non TS on my Q5 Pro. Looks like some compatibility issue with this TS on Q5 Pro. I have tried a TS file on Kodi web and it plays AOK.

what is TS?

66gb... is that a uhd4k 2160p video? as in 3840 x 2160?

if yr tv OR avr is not 4k, u will not get video. no downgrading.

what is AOK?

newer PCs/monitors can take 1440p, i.e. 2560x1440.

that other TS file on kodi in the same box, same tv, it works - does it work when playing with q5pro native player?
what resolution is it?

1280×720 (HD, 720p)
1920×1080 (FHD, Full HD, 2K 1080p)
2560×1440 (QHD, WQHD, Quad HD, 1440p)
3840×2160 (UHD, Ultra HD, 4K, 2160p)
7680×4320 (FUHD, Full Ultra HD, 8K, 4320p)
