Getting quite tired of having to change from HM remote to wired mouse and vice versa. Takes the enjoyment out of watching the shows.

After some look-see on the web, planning to get a Logitech K400 or K400+ or K400r.

Appreciate feedback from those who are using one of the above 3 - best 2 points and worst 2 points on the keyboard.

If you know of a better keyboard for HMedia use, please drop a line here.

Thanks.

P/S I am using HM H8 2+16 quad.

Don't use wired mouse, use wireless mouse.

That, together with the remote is good, can do everything.

I use that for 3years now.

I have a mele keyboard mouse hardly used... Keys are too small for my fat fingers. biggrin.gif
*
Call me fussy etc etc, I still need to find a flat surface to use the wireless mouse which will be the table in the living room.

I prefer everything in one gadget to simplify life for the person using the TV box. Ha.

I think this K400 is standard keyboard size. So should suit big and small users. I hope so. Ha.

im using k400 before for my set-up box minix.
the mousepad is ok, same for keyboard. but then i realise seldom use the keyboard function, only the mousepad.

the recent, home and back button can be use on that keyboard but u need to know the key mapping.

after use it for quite a while, i think its to big for me to use. so i use fly mouse now. minix branded too and its better than k400, small, got small keyboard, got button for play/pause etc. also got IR for me to turn it on/off the set-up-box.
*
Many thanks!

I use the keyboard for searching movies, my girl uses the lettering a fair bit in searching things in Youtube.

Which K400? K400, K400+ or K400r?

Please clarify how do you do key mapping for the 3 buttons?

Terima kasih!

P/S Looked up some Youtube on K400+. Looks like just what I need! Now I know what is the key mapping. The top row of buttons can be assigned with different functions via a PC.

Same thing.  Bought the Q10 pro from digital mall philips kiosk last sunday.  Came home to try setup kodi.  It requires lots of inputing of website which the remote is not meant for it.  So i connected a wired mouse to make inputting keyboard easier.  Still it's not very fast as the keyboard interface is laggy.  Like i need to wait half a second before input the next key.  So no fast typing allowed.  However, in youtube video i saw some guide videos where they can input keys and it appear as fast as computer keyboard input.  Wonder how is that done.  The constant switch between mouse and remote is tiresome.  Some function require remote, such as menu button to load profile, to delete file, to swap subtitles etc.  Some addon can only be clicked with mouse, the remote totally cannot access it.  Is there a good all rounder where I can control it all in one for Himedia Q10 pro?

To the guy who getting K400r.  What is your review of it?
*
Bought the K400+.

As one who does not like to use the touch pad on laptop, it took me some struggle to use this K400+ on my TV.

But after using it for a few days, it is ok. Now typing letters using K400+ is so much easier than using the software keyboard!

Sometimes the touch pad is very sensitive, opening or closing something on the screen. So need to get used to this.

Overall,

I need to use both the remote and K400+, the remote is good for some tasks while the K400+ is good for other tasks.

Found this klang valley seller for the remote.  Any users here already use this model of remote? Any comment about the remote?

https://mall.shopee.com.my/item/?sid=5466491&iid=19983926

When I first launched my Q10 pro, I will be going into the android home page. From there I can add icons to be put on the home page as I can use the + button. the sizes of the buttons seems to vary. How to resize those buttons and how to remove some buttons?
*
You did not get Q10 Pro from Nicety? His units are 99% all set up, ready for use.

I think Q5 Pro is about the same as Q10 Pro. I am using Q5 Pro.

To remove the buttons, say the buttons with ABC, XYZ are the ones you do not want, click on + button, a new page showing all the selections will appear, go to ABC & XYZ and click on their tick marks to deselect.

In Q5 & Q10, noted that one can have more than 6 buttons. In H8, it is limited to 6 buttons.

I recently bought a HiMedia Q5 Pro. I have my video on my NAS, a 720p movie, DTS & 5.1. When I play the movie via Kodi, it lag and lots of frame are droping.

Using my HiMedia 600A to play the movie from my NAS, dont have this problem?

Can anyone know whats is wrong, any optimisation for the Q5 or Kodi?
*
I tried it with a 66GB TS video on my Q5 Pro. Only sound, no video. Similar sound-no picture with TS reported on the net (but don't know which TV boxes they are using). Maybe my Pana TV is not up to the standard? Thought it can downgrade the picture to suit the TV.

Tried it with VLC on Q5 Pro, got sound and picture, but the picture was breaking out. Can play AOK with VLC on my PC.

Can play other videos non TS on my Q5 Pro. Looks like some compatibility issue with this TS on Q5 Pro. I have tried a TS file on Kodi web and it plays AOK.

thank you and thanks to AVFAN for your invaluable advice. It all works now. However, there in no HiDLNA.apk for the q10pro I think it's already built in. The trick, strangely enough, to get the networking working was after enabling samba which i did long ago was:

enabling the networking password (and then disabling if you don't want to use it then disable and then enable samba.

seems wierd but it worked for me, i have 2 q10 pros so i followed that religiously and all 3 now can file share/network.

Interesting, why 3 Q10 Pro? In diff rooms/houses?

Or you like it so much that .... Ha.

Your best point and your worst point on Q10 Pro?

Thanks.

what is TS?
*** TS = Transport Stream one of the many video formats. Google and see.

66gb... is that a uhd4k 2160p video? as in 3840 x 2160?
*** 1920 * 1080 at 25 frames /s

if yr tv OR avr is not 4k, u will not get video. no downgrading.
*** TV is only HD, bought some 6 yrs ago. I have tried some sound and video test programs from Kodi, eg #6 as highlighted below. I can play it in my Q5 Pro and HD TV though it is 10 bit color and UHD file. My old TV does not have 10 bits color or UHD features and yet I can play it. Think there is an automatic downgrade to what the TV can handle.
Attached Image

Don't tell me my TV I bought 6 years is 10 bits color and UHD which I am not aware of! Ha. 10 bits and UHD were in their research/development phase then.

what is AOK?
***  AOK = OK = fine = all right
That is, I can play the #6 UHD TS file.

newer PCs/monitors can take 1440p, i.e. 2560x1440.
*** My PC monitor is about 12 yrs old now and still can play the 66 GB TS file using VLC on my PC. Think there is also an automatic quality downgrade to suit the monitor.

that other TS file on kodi in the same box, same tv, it works - does it work when playing with q5pro native player?
what resolution is it?
***  Maybe what I said earlier is confusing.
Can play #6 TS file above (0.6 GB)
Cannot play the other big TS file (66GB). Have tried the Kodi default player & DVD player (with sound but no picture). Using VLC apps, got picture and sound but breaking. Not watchable.

1280×720 (HD, 720p)
1920×1080 (FHD, Full HD, 2K 1080p)
2560×1440 (QHD, WQHD, Quad HD, 1440p)
3840×2160 (UHD, Ultra HD, 4K, 2160p)
7680×4320 (FUHD, Full Ultra HD, 8K, 4320p)

You mean whether Q5 Pro is designed to play TS? Yes, I have checked with my supplier, says Q5 Pro can play TS file, which it does with the 0.6 GB TS file.

But why the no picture problem with the 66 GB TS file? Suggest not all TS files are alike.

Bitrate...
*
Thanks.

With the breaking picture quality, the bitrate question came to mind, maybe my system including the network is not fast enough. I did a check the other night and summary as below.

66 GB video 37 Mbps bitrate
0.6 GB video 51 Mbps bitrate

(bitrate from the DETAILS section)

Even at a higher bitrate, I can play the 0.6 GB file without any problem while having problem with the 66 GB file.

AVI, MPS etc files have different bitrates depending on the picture/sound quality (frame rate etc) and I have not come across a time where I cannot play an AVI, MP3 file on my Q5 Pro.

FYI, getting the 66 GB TS file to play is academic now. I did it to test my Q5 Pro and I can play the 0.6 GB TS file. So, not an issue to dwell on for me. Next time if there is a choice of file fomat, I will avoid TS! Ha.

No worries mate.

Just for info, hardware decoding relies on a combo set/range of audio and video codec, if your combo is wrong or encoded in suboptimal parameters, you get these problems. Software decoding is more forgiving hence vlc can play. It was designed to play all kinds of codec.

I have a wdtv live and this issue is even worse due to limited range of codec suport and codec combo. Some files I had to stream from PC running serviio (ftp)  & ffmpeg (decode/re-encode on the fly) in order to watch via wdtv on the big screen. At that time, mp4, h264, etc was gaining momentum...the syndicates haven't standardized on ripping/encoding parameters so now & then I get problematic files...they played well in the PC just not on the wdtv laugh.gif

Cleaned up by removing unwanted apps, install kodi 16. Surprise, surprise, this old box works. Manage to watch 1 movie and 1 TV drama smoothly in kodi. I'm amazed, learning more about what Android box can do. So far, no issue on movies in HDDs but not 4k or those extreme stuffs. Wonder what more apps to add.

Unfortunately, no Bluetooth, can't use wireless hp. Might add Bluetooth transmitter. Or any suggestion? Is welcome

Himedia box age well

Don't know many cool things about the box but know MANY HOT wub.gif devil.gif things! Ha.

9GAG gives you daily updates on funny/sad/new release/sexy/show/politics videos.

CNA (Spore) news is much much better than our Msian RTM/Channel 7,8,9 news.

Be careful not to install too many apps and addons as system will need at least 3 MB free memory to run smoothly. Your Q10 memory is twice my Q5 (I think) but still need to keep an eye on this.

What I have done is install half of Nicety's apps or addons. Go through them, make a list of the ones I cannot run or don't want, uninstall these. Then install the 2nd half and delete the ones I dont want.

Use Super Favourites (Kodi) to keep all your favourite links in 1 page. Otherwise you will have to open this and that, go down the lists to find the links you want. Tedious and annoying when you forget where to find some of the links later. Ha.

Using remote control mouse on the screen keyboard is slow and a torture for me. Got a keyboard now.

Will let you know when other things come to mind.

Enjoy!

P/S Still using ASTRO? Ha.

I think with TV Plus 2 you can only watch what they are showing. Not like Exodus etc where you select the show+espisode you want.
