No worries mate.

Just for info, hardware decoding relies on a combo set/range of audio and video codec, if your combo is wrong or encoded in suboptimal parameters, you get these problems. Software decoding is more forgiving hence vlc can play. It was designed to play all kinds of codec.

I have a wdtv live and this issue is even worse due to limited range of codec suport and codec combo. Some files I had to stream from PC running serviio (ftp)  & ffmpeg (decode/re-encode on the fly) in order to watch via wdtv on the big screen. At that time, mp4, h264, etc was gaining momentum...the syndicates haven't standardized on ripping/encoding parameters so now & then I get problematic files...they played well in the PC just not on the wdtv laugh.gif

same experience with ac ryan. i have retired the first one (7 yrs old) as the chipset is oldest, can't do hd audio too. second one can do hd audio but fails to read some video types. will retire this as my collection of newer file types grow.

QUOTE(dwRK @ Feb 11 2017, 09:35 AM)
MKV is just a "container"... It can very well carry the same TS file FYI....

righto!

i just tested this, file of 2.5 hrs long, can work out the bit rate.

71.1GB, 2160p 4K UltraHD BluRay x265 (HEVC 10bit BT709) Dolby Atmos 7.1 mkv

sample or main file:

... windows 10, monitor 1440p... windows player or vlc player... judders, broken video, video freeze, broken audio.

... Q16... audio OK, but no video at all (rightly so since this 3 yr old box can do hd audio, even atmos, hevc, but can't do 10 bit.)

... Q10pro... plays flawlessly. my home theater does not do atmos, so it plays DDtrueHD. if a setup doesn't do DDtrueHD, it will just be DD/AC3.

i still have yet to come across a file q10pro will not play! tongue.gif

In the good old days...just use gspot program to inspect biggrin.gif but I don't supposed it will work for 4k files anymore...

ffmpeg or ffprobe will be able to show all the codec info.

Yes, it will the best way to get first experience, learn the basics.
Thats the kind of box i had as a first!

I think it is a 2/8gb emmc.
You will find it a bit slow but it will work for the most part.
If u find kodi not working well, check the memory... may be too small to do much.
Usb playback should be ok incl hd audio if the firmware is the last one.

Cleaned up by removing unwanted apps, install kodi 16. Surprise, surprise, this old box works. Manage to watch 1 movie and 1 TV drama smoothly in kodi. I'm amazed, learning more about what Android box can do. So far, no issue on movies in HDDs but not 4k or those extreme stuffs. Wonder what more apps to add.

Unfortunately, no Bluetooth, can't use wireless hp. Might add Bluetooth transmitter. Or any suggestion? Is welcome

Himedia box age well

Well done!

When I started on Himedia 1+ year ago, it was and still is a hill to climb.

Enjoy the fruit of your labour!

Now that got that going, u can spend time reading n trying the tips given by various people in the androidtv box and kodi threads.

Just keep an eye on the memory and storage.

Some apps or addons require a huge amount of space so they may not work well, can cause everything to hang.

not sure what u mean...?

q5/q10pro does NOT come with mangotv.
u just install the green mangotv like any apk.
the gold color of the mango will become green, everything else the same, that's all. biggrin.gif

the term "wrapper" has a special meaning with q5/q10pro.
it is an app built into the firmware.
it is to "wrap" video/audio" streams from KODI, bypass kodi player to play with himediaplayer.
it does not wrap anything else, afaik.

ddtruehd, dtshdma will work with the AVR - for q5/q10pro, q16, q5ii.

when u get the chance and if your AVR has atmos and dtsx, try it on q5/q10pro!

if he meant launcher, i doubt it.

the default launchers are specific to the firmware.

can use 3rd party launchers, though.

I don't think it's called the launcher...

In Q16 home screen, you'd usually have those flash of various latest programs sliding right to left on top screen while the bottom you'd have the shortcuts or favorite... That makes it look premium 😁😁😁

Doubt there's any device out there that does this...😝😝😝

That's the one I wanted to install into Q5 cos the current Q5 home screen is like dull....😴😴😴

Hope you get my drift

I've installed the green mango, yes!

Current NrR509 don't support Atmos n dtsx.. unless you implying I should update the firmware on Onkyo but doubt it'll have 😜
