QUOTE(darkseifer @ Mar 22 2012, 12:31 AM) Well, the research does not support the claims. What happens is when you ingest glutamine about 90% of it stays in the small intestine and the rest that escapes gets converted into blood glucose. Also endogenous glutamine production will be decreased, so the end result is that supplementation of glutamine does nothing to improve recovery or hypertrophic response. The funny thing most people don't realize is that they give it to severe burn victims. That being said, it would only be effective in a trainee if they're taking megash!tload amounts which is never worth it. What a scam these damn supplement companies. Some references: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11822473 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11834123 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17111006 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17618004 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10500016 |

Review of Scivation Xtend
Someone asked me about this, so i decided to do a quick review of Xtend going over each ingredients individually. I'll try to keep this simple so anyone can understand it. Ingredients:- BCAA: This is the main ingredient. I believe most people buy this product for the BCAA. I'm sure most of you have done research in some capacity with regards to BCAA supplementation, so there really isn't any need for me to go in depth over this. There are benefits to supplementing BCAA under some conditions. 2:1:1 ratio, Leucine, isoleucine and valine at 7grams per serving. Glutamine: While in theory it seems sound, however the idea of oral glutamine supplementation for strength training has been destroyed numerous times through extensive research. I've talked about this in a previous post. Citruline malate: There has been research that suggest some benefits of supplementing citruline malate. However the doses used in the CM studies were upwards of 6grams. There is only 1gram per serving in this product. It is not dosed enough for measurable effects. Electrolytes: This is very beneficial for endurance athletes that trains for hours. Vitamin B6: People are rarely deficient in B vitamins. Most athletes are already getting enough of it or supplementing it. Might be redundant. Taste:- If any of you ever tried the unflavoured stuff, you know that it tastes awful! This product is flavoured well to mask the horrid taste, and there is a variety of flavours available. I've only used the 3rd generation. Flavours I liked were grape and watermelon. Of course for the current generation the taste might have changed slightly, though I don't think by much. Should still taste good. A good alternative to the unflavoured stuff if you don't mind paying a little more. Final thoughts:- It is important to note that the study that Scivation quoted for this product is not peer reviewed. I'll leave it at that. Is this a good product? Is it suitable to help you with your goals? You decide if its right for you based on the ingredients and its efficacy. |

QUOTE(darklight79 @ Mar 24 2012, 07:45 AM) Your thoughts on pure leucine supplementation mate? Or BCAA mixtures which have an even higher ratio of leucine compared to the ubiquitous 2:1:1? We know that leucine plays a huge role in protein synthesis. The role of the other AA is to further improve the response of leucine. A pure leucine product is still best taken with other AA's to elicit maximal response.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21775557 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15562251 Does having a much higher ratio leucine further enhances MPS? I have not seen evidence of that. Most studies used ~2:1:1. It may benefit other purposes, but I doubt its going to further enhance MPS. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21884134 |

Sorry bros, I need some help on getting whey protein. I need them is because my daily protein intake doesn't fits the requirement, as in I don't eat that much of chickens breast and eggs cause I can't have too much.. So I'm planning to get whey protein as substitution of natural proteins from foods.
73kg guy, I don't want to gain weight anymore.. Now on the way gaining muscles to fill in my empty spaces which look loose. Any product to recommend? is elite whey protein isolate is good? or maybe there something else out there? I don't want awful taste protein lol |

If you don't like it, I'll be happy to buy the remainder of your tub (at a reasonable price) |

I've heard a lot of good things about the old Myofusion, but the current 'Probiotic' one seems to get a fair bit of hate. |

My friend just started lifting and wants to see fast results (his workout damn intensive already), should he take Nitro-Tech? a lot of people said it works for beginners, though no doubt it has a lot of fluff ingredients. is it beginners' gain or it really works? because we buy our supps together in bulk so it's easier that way, if he orders NT i will have to get it too. lol. sounds stupid but i prefer myo probiotic than NT, tastes better too. any thoughts?

QUOTE(pedro @ Mar 26 2012, 09:10 PM) Nice advice there pedro. It seems that the first thing that comes in mind of a new weightlifter is supplementation but they are wrong actually. Added on March 27, 2012, 5:50 pmHi guys. i'm just want to ask about whey protein (not that I want to buy them, just for my knowledge). It seems that many users opt for Dymatize Elite Whey and Gaspari MyoFusion for their protein supplement. Does anyone have tried MusclePharm Combat Powder? It is not isolate (whey only) but the advert says that it has so much benefit in their blend. Care to comment on it? This post has been edited by alien9: Mar 27 2012, 05:50 PM |
