Did you have any friends or relative staying in SG?
Mind to share what profession are u in and what's ur industry u r into?
AFAIK, the job market in SG is quite quiet for these few months. Many companies are freezing headcounts such as my company.

Yes I do have relatives and friend staying there. But it would not be good for me to stay at their place without contributing anything, hence I still need to incur cost for accommodation although at a lower rate. I am working in the banking industry (relevant experience would be marketing/social media/digital marketing/media)

You can try to apply Bank of China if you are in banking industry. My friend just got her job confirmed in that bank.
I dont think address is a issue here as you can always tell them you are now staying in Malaysia but will be renting a room once I got a job confirmed.

Yup, I believe not only IT industry is affected. But if you have expertise in SAP/Oracle (in terms of system implementation and security maintenance), it is still highly in demand as alot of companies are migrating to these ERP systems nowadays.

Alot of jobs are only stated for "Singaporean and SPR only". Having said so, my Singaporean colleague-IT professional has been job hunting for few months too.

However dun give-up, you may still try your luck in your job hunting.

@sean ehe nolah was just asking how the off peak scheme works. cos at the current COE price of 60-70k, a 17k discount is like hardly worth mentioning, so I was wondering what all the fuss is about.

on the other hand moving back 1+years to like jan-mar 2010 ... coe then was ~20k, so in that context a 17k discount makes a lot more sense to give up daytime driving.

Besides COE, road tax for OPCs are cheaper as well. Insurance might be as well, but I'm not sure. But you're right... the incentive to go OPC shrinks as COE climbs and vice versa. Actually, if you want to get a car, you might also want to think about 2nd hand cars. Price dynamics follow COE movements of course (it's simple substitution after all), but the used car market is still a separate market, many a times with significantly divergent driving factors. Singaporeans also have a different car mentality than Malaysians... ie. cars are short term expenses which they think about entirely in terms of the monthly expense amount and residual value which becomes the "discount" when they upgrade (pretty much like handphones)... unlike Malaysians where we think about paying off the loan and value the car in terms of the total cost of the "asset".

Used or new, car price really went up.

You see those under $10k COE cars at used car market(~ 3 years) selling almost equal to their buying price. mostly Korean car or Eurocar... the most popular choice when COE hit the ground.
