QUOTE(perkinsonline @ Apr 12 2011, 02:00 AM)
This is my story.

Canada.
Studied in Canada for  3.3 yrs in Canada, weather is f-ed, cold cold cold. During the time there I never went back to Malaysia. I was achieving a lot there. Became well known. There was a price to pay, I had depression. Was very moody and could not sleep. Had to work, volunteer, and go to school.
On the bright side, had a great Taiwanese gf. Lasted 10 yrs and we just broke up. I am very heart broken right now.

Japan.
Since people knew about me and though I could apply for a job in Japan. So I was in Japan for a year. Japan was different from what people expected. Looking in from the outside u cant get the real picture unless u live there.

Taiwan
Taiwan was like Malaysia in a way but way better. People are nice. I was there for 1.5 yrs until i got disillusioned with life and left her to get a grip on reality and life.

China
By the time I was China I was feeling fine. China is an incredible place. Unlike Japan which looks good from the outside but not really great inside, China is the opposite. From the outside China looks bad but when I was there I had a great time. Met lots of cool people. This is where I broke up with my Taiwanese gf.

Singapore
Since breaking up having no support network, I'm moving to a place that is bit more familiar to heal my soul. My mother is in Singapore, so, this is the best place for me. I will be there really soon like next Monday or something. Was there off and on for my interviews.

I have lived my life to the fullest and I have one regret; I lost her.

Living in so many countries I believe I come out stronger now.

The sad thing is coming from my background now its hard for me to live in Malaysia. I look at this country and I am seriously disappointed. Its not moving forward; instead, its moving backwards. Last Sunday when I was having dinner at a Malay area, I saw a young girl wearing a veil; she must think its fashionable, but she knows not the repercussion of an Islamic state.

Money I dont have much, but stories and experience I do have bag full.

In two years I plan to come back to Malaysia and do day trading.

If if things go as planned I can live anywhere in the would. I would probably live in Taipei/Phuket/China depending on the season.
Well thats my live story. As for now I am waiting to see who is my next life partner!

Sorry if I am a bit long winded!  rclxm9.gif

I completely opposite from you. My gf ask let me choose : 1) Go Singapore and forget about her or 2) Stay in msia wif her and together build our future. I weigh all my options and went to SG. I only live once and i'm sure gonna make full use of my youth before i settle down... but now single and lonely in SG. Haih...

QUOTE(L7Awesome @ Apr 21 2011, 11:47 AM)
If we keep up with the Joneses, it will tied us up when opportunity arises.  I would say that being a husband and a dad to my kids, the reason I can come over to Singapore and give it a try is that I am having some savings that sees me through.  The initial investment in coming to SG is not a joke.  Say if we start here. The initial room downpayment + agent fees + a few weeks or maybe two months without initial salary + Daily expenses + travelling + RM to SG, it can be quite heavy.  If I am in debt or heavily committed, I would think twice, thrice before making that move.  So I think prudence in spending is always important no matter if we are in SG or MY. Also if we got savings and there's the economic downturn, we have all the bullets ready.  It's also easy to be tempted in SG too since every branded stuffs are si beh cheap here.
*
But there is also always a inherent risk of employment when u come to SG. It is very unlikely to get fired in Malaysia. However, it is a diffrerent ball game in SG. Ppl get hired and fired in a blink of an eye. No recourse. So yes u can save. But then again all yr savings gone when u get fired. Don't forget yr still a foreigner in SG and the gov couldn't give a *^%& about u and would only be happy to see you go back.

QUOTE(giorgene @ May 24 2011, 02:13 PM)
You cannot convert and compare in this way, if you work in sg you will spend in sgd not rm, rm to sgd salary should be around 1:1, I mean the figure..
When I moved to sg from kl 2 years ago, I got 20% increment look at the figure not after conversion.
Your 5 years experience related to shipyard? If you got 3 years related experience, you will get that than 3200
*
Actually its more like this.
Even when you get 1:1 kinda pay, u tend to NOT feel any difference after awhile. Let me explain to you from my personal experience.
Before i came to SG, my pay in RM is XXXX. When i went to Singapore, pay is the same. i.e. RM1 to SGD1
So i feel very happy, coz even after deducting rent, transport, meals, etc still i think can save 20-30% of salary per month. So for the first few months I save 20-30% of pay, eat cheap like hawker stall, no drinking, partying, etc.

After 6 months, I started to change. I also did not notice. First its from hawker food everyday, u will upgrade to restaturant then to japanese food (not umi sushi type). Then instead of buying G2000, I "unconciously" went and buy Hugo Boss, etc. Sale mar. End up wah! Credit card got big hole every month. Then slowly u think, damn this is NOT enough! I need more money!!!!

So bottom line is even you earn 1:1, you will still find that its not enough. However, when i go back M'sia I spend like lord lar! Ending up another big hole in credit card. Those things in RM you think aiyah divide by 2.4 mar. But all this small, small sum add up become big, big sum. Now struggling to pay off card debt.

ep,spass, wpass realli big diff?
can enlighten me? =D

Actually i suspect sg differentiate the passes to differentiate the people
I also think its much easier for ep to get pr compared to the other classes. I also think right now it's almost impossible/very rare for wpass to get pr
Like to know other's thoughts?

Guys, I plan to go Singapore work.

But I'm haven't get any job yet and I will resign tomorrow. So roughly will be going to Singapore in July.

Don't do that. Unless u have a rent free place to live or have alot, lot of money. I have a friend who spent 2 months and RM10,000 on rent, food, expenses, and transportation (including going back to KL) thinking he could go to SG, stay and get a job. End up after 2 months still no job and no money (finish RM10k) so go back to M'sia.

BTW yr white card has a maximum staying period of 2 months. Thereafter there is a cooling period of something like 1 month before u can come back to SG.

It doesn't matter they work legal or illegal..

Its the matter of the words that you using in this thread..

Me / you or others should be happy because we have an opportunity given by SG to work in this country..

And NOT look down at those holding Work Permit worker.. They are HUMAN too...

And they work more than you did to earn that little of salary..

Really SHAME ON YOU...
*
Agree with yr first point. My apologies

Disagree with yr second point.
The only reason SG gave us a chance is because no Singaporean are willing to take up the job. M'sian to them are cheap labour readily to be exploited citing "Singapore currency stronger mar!" on why they can't match yr expected salary. Oh not forgeting " No singapore experience but with Malaysian expereince? We don't recognise M'sian expereince". Yeah right?!

Your grandfather or great grandfather is skilled, graduate?
-That's Y my grandfather migrated away from China to Malaysia.

Added on June 1, 2011, 6:44 pm
Perhaps you have never met any highly skilled with knowledge on very niche field Malaysian working here in Singapore. Probably above your pay scale to get to know all these expatriates.
*
- What are the chances? Compared to the majority of Malaysians working in SG?

I don't understand why a person with no skill and paper is rubbish

many WP worker are earning their living with honest and dignity, taking higher risk and lower pay.

There are things that money can't buy

-- a piece of humble pie
*
THEN Y COME TO SG???!!! Malaysia could use more of these workers too since we are also short of unskilled workers? Y Make Malaysian employees hire FOREIGN WORKERS? if what u say "taking higher risk and lower pay" is true.

big wrong move on the first post.
then second wrong move by trying to be smart and defending him/herslf.
looks like he/her best move would be to disapper from the thread, and come back with a fresh new identity.

I don't need to. While I agree my words are offensive, however I stand by my opinion. If you don't agree that yr problem. I'm entitled to my own opinion.

And they HUNGRY to do so...
*
Further to my justification, this person above clearly demonstates my point.
Bunch of hooligans whose only recourse is to resort to violence. Hey! if u really wanna/like to fight, why don't u join the army?
This is why SG should NEVER allow such people to even enter the country for work or otehrwise.
It threathens the very fabric of a civilised society in which they work so hard to achieve.

Anyone of u plan to settle down in Singapore?

I m thinking to settle down here but the housing here is expensive. I can't buy a hdb bcos I have a property in Malaysia which is under development.

Need some guidances..
*
To me, no point settle down here. Things here getting more and more expensive and inflation is getting higher every year. Although M'sia is the same, but by virtue of the superior SGD conversion rate will mitigate inflation rate if i convert SGD to RM.

I come here work 10-15 years, earn my SGD and built up my property portfolio in M'sia. Once i hit 45, go back to M'sia and retire like in Melaka or something. Take it easy , slow paced life with steady stream of rental income. That's what u call LIFE!
