Guys, during interview in Singapore company, they will definitely ask me one question which I always unable to answer it properly... "Why Singapore?". This is something that I'm unable to answer it nicely. Anyone got any good answer for this?
Hi stanley, I'm currently looking for IT job based in Singapore, wondering whether you can pm me for more information regarding this job? thanks.
*
For IT...the answer is actually quite simple.
In the IT field, one will need to keep up with technology to improve and in terms of technology, Singapore is definitely ahead of Malaysia.

I have a question.
I understand that there is a cooling period between application for PR which starts from the rejection date, right?
So IF we appeal and got rejected again, the cooling period starts from the application rejection date or appeal rejection date? :S

i believe there is no absolute cooling period but i would suggest you to call up ICA and check with them if you want a firm answer. Just as what i said, ICA is responsible for giving you an accurate answer, 3rd party like us are just giving out "ADVICE" which may or may not be precise.

Haha...good point.
Lets hope when I apply, I do not need to worry about that.

Something to share with everyone, touching the topic about Singapore earning to spending ratio in comparison to Malaysia, particularly.

http://hantulautan.blogspot.com/2011/04/ma...r-spending.html

Those that have been living there, what do you think? I still think food and public transport cost is cheaper in Singapore. However, the rent as many had mentioned is incredibly high there. If its not because of the currency exchange rate, I would have worked in Malaysia. Its difficult to get a one to one pay in Singapore. I could have earned more but save less if I stay in Malaysia.
*
Food is definitely cheaper compared to Malaysia and the portion is also bigger.
Used to require 2 servings back in Penang, but here, there are times I could not finish 1 serving. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Nowadays, I spend around 20 dollars for transport a week (no cab)...but back in Malaysia, one tank of petrol is RM70-80 which also lasts about a week. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif
So transport is cheaper, although more time consuming.
I guess we get some, we lose some.

Rent sure is expensive.
My relocation is causing my savings to be stalled. laugh.gif laugh.gif

However, I definitely can save more here...a lot more compared to back in Malaysia.

I suppose in a way yes.
POSB does not offer their Go! debit card for not epass holder.
Citibank requires 3.5k monthly, which would mean mostly an epass.
But I noticed ppl saying standard chartered has the lowest requirement, not sure how low. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Hi All,

I'm currently working in Singapore. My company is paying me 1 month relocation salary, 1 month carpe diem + 1 month hotel stay.

I negotiated with the company to pay for my rental deposit and I would stay at the hotel for 1 week.

I WAS supposed to move in tomorrow but the agent just called me last night and told me the landlord backed out with the reason that his parents were hospitalized and he couldn't rent it out to me anymore.

Luckily, I extended my stay with the hotel for another 1 week and I'll be looking for other places to stay with the agent.

Question: Has this ever happened to anyone you know before? The contract was already signed and it seems skewed if the tenant pulls out, the tenant forfeits their deposit but the landlord gets away scot free.

        Thanks!
*
This is just purely my opinion.
I think you can take legal action.
However, the landlord can just allow you to rent like as before if they found out you want to sue them.
Do you still want to go through the hassle and sue?
If not, comes the question, do you still want to stay there with bad blood already in place. laugh.gif laugh.gif
If you decide not to, then this time round, you will be seen as the one pulling out. doh.gif doh.gif

If im not mistaken citibank savings account doesnt have the pre requisite of a minimum balance of $500.
*
They do not have a minimum when you open your account.
They do require your account to have funds after 6 months and it is not $500 like POSB, it is $2000, as told by the officer.
They will not be deducting $2 like POSB, instead, it will be $10.

India Indians have flooded the IT and banking operations sectors  in Singapore and have depressed wages.  Also, they have a reputation of exaggerating their resumes and capabilities and typically do not meet job expectations.  Hence, the intense backlash against them.
*
Who doesn't?
Without an attractive resume, you would not even be offered an interview.
But minor exaggeration is permitted I suppose. laugh.gif laugh.gif

I don't know about india indians in singapore, but in my experience working with the indians in india in my MNC, their concept of exaggeration is way beyond what malaysians are capable of. They've got this ability to talk as if they have superhuman powers but in reality can't deliver. And in concalls if you let them dictate the meeting, it'll be hours of talking and end up with nothing at the end of it.

Of course I'm generalizing from my personal viewpoints, your mileage may vary.

also becareful on what had been verbally agreed totally different from in the documents.

I too find that this is a very good generalization of them since i too more often then not encounter this kind of situation. Talk till your ears fall off but the result are basically diddly squat.
*
Haha...looks like we all have our share of unpleasant experience when dealing with India counterparts.

Cozycorner at Bugis. --> http://www.cozycornerguest.com/
CityBackpackers in Kalang --> http://www.citybackpackers.com.sg/rooms.cgi
I stayed in both of this. City backpackers is cleaner. happy.gif

My friend stayed at Pillows and Toast. Looks nice, not sure about the price.

Just want to check, if we are on EP and we have a change of residential address, do we need to inform MOM about that?
*
Yes.
You have to do it using SingPass or inform your employer to update for you, MOM won't do it for you (at least that was the case for my wife earlier this year)
Oh ya, do note if you are doing it yourself...their website is "open" during office hours too. sweat.gif sweat.gif
