Specifications of 5750G

Regarding the Sandy Bridge flaw, code name "Cougar Point"
Acer Highpoint is now giving out 3 options to affected user.
1) Replace the motherboard
2) Swap another equivalent model
3) Full refund

btw any of u guys replace the motherboard already??
i wan to know how long the process will take..

the motherboard will be available on April if im not mistaken as i read it from other users who already contacted Acer Highpoint.It might takes 2-3 days after inspection depending on availability

so nid to wait until April or can juz send now??

u can send now but they will probably have to hold your laptop until the spare parts is available.

is it necessary for the bios thingy

no i guess. i never upgrade my bios unless i have some problems.i have downloaded the new bios but i havent installed it yet.lol

previously got 2 BSOD episodes saying driver bla bla bla... always happen if left the notebook for a long time. probably the power management thingy.

anyway, just updated all the necessary drivers today... will see how it goes.

mainly use 5750G for video editing and normal office work plus Unreal Tournament, Modern Warfare 2 and Angry Bird. So far so good!

hi, may i know when will Acer start shipping this 5750G model(i mean with problem fix) to Malaysia again, so that I can buy from the retailer?

i juz call the acer service centre..the say the motherboard not arrive yet..
so they say gv ur name, number, ic number n laptop serial code..
after the motherboard arrive they will pick up to our location..
juz call the acer service centre..1800-88-1918
i think maybe in march or april will get picked up our laptop..

yes. me too. i oso just called up the Acer service center (174/02/2011, 15:29).
they said the motherboard not yet arrived Malaysia.
So, what we can do is wait until march or april
1. Acer send people come to our house collect laptop to service (FOC)
2. Acer will send back our laptop to us oso after the service (FOC oso)
3. no need provide receipt, just provide them laptop enuf.

juz minor correction, they "say" it should be available early march, not april...thats wat 'they' say ya, not me

huh? how is tat possible?? the due date is before the replacement reach??

reminder : make sure u guys ask for some sort of "proof of returning" like invoice or acknowledgement that enables u to claim back ur laptop...if u dun hav such proof, say goodbye to ur lappy once & for all

i guess the only thing i hate about the laptop other than the sandy bridge issue is the direction keys, gosh.. they're freaking small! and i'm not sure for others but i seem to have problems passing the ball with the direction keys in fifa, you'll need to let go of the keys and pass at the instance without holding down the directions.. anyone else playing fifa 11 on 5750g experience this same thing as well? or do you have any advice?

just enjoy the laptop now...

my core#1 is always hotter.

Does anyone have overheating problems during gaming? mine recorded up to 70-80 celcius while playing black ops

That is not yet considered overheating..

you sure? coz the left side of my laptop gets really hot and i use the notepal u2

If its overheating, your notebook would directly shutdown..

the heat wont damage my cpu or processer will it?

my laptop keep BSOD when play games..
i already go to faq section they say coz the nvidia driver..
reinstall back the nvidia driver same problum occur..

no error code or message..its like lag a sec then BSOD happen..

Better try the custom one, it include the hardware vendor id for GT540M..

Everything works fine for my lappy. Can say quite happy to using it. Hope all of u enjoy urs. ^^

already install the custom driver..but sadly BSOD still occur..

Seems like still problem with the nVidia...
Temperature shouldn't be the problem, if its too hot, it will shutdown directly, no BSOD...

Just to make sure, the nVidia on device manager report the driver version is 266.58 ?

Just wondering why did u install 32Bit OS?

u shud install 64bit OS and see if the problem still occuring.

im still suffering from that optimus problem like seriously seriously

I updated the BIOS to try - now the laptop not working..

can turn on, but its a blank screen with only this:

Better send back to service center...

or try extract the bios flasher to a pendrive, and plug it to the notebook, and press and keep holding fn + esc while booting, hopefully can flash it back..

this is exactly why i never update my BIOS unless something is wrong with my laptop.

same like me la, i updated the bios ady, but haven try yet...

haha i did the same ting last time, to see whether the factory default setting is problematic, but its not (i mean installing other version & 32 bits)

try installing a 64bit OS and see if the problem still persists

i make 2 os ba..both have the same problem..

these few days, nope

i recovered it from not responding at all - sometimes it will turn on LOL (about 5% chance??)

anyway.. since then I downgraded to bios 1.02, working fine now.

but still, the nvidia BSOD problem is a pain. why stupid nvidia sells gt540m but doesnt make a driver for it!?!?

Cant avoid la, bc not acer's fault.

I just called Acer Highpoint, the customer service representative told me that we can make decisions the latest by 15th April.I just leave my contact details so that they can call me when the necessary chipset or product replacement has arrived. Im torn between option 1 and option 2. Product swap(option 2) is currently not availabe as 5750G is their best model with SB chipset.

If swap model dun noe it need how long to wait......and dun noe will get lemon product or not....

that one i dont know.maybe 1-2 weeks i guess as i didn't ask them.maybe i'll ask when they call me later when the replacement has arrived.
lemon product or not that is the risk we have to take.well,its up to you whether u want to swap or not.if we replace the mobo there is also no guarantee that they will use original product and not lemon product.
by swapping it mean u can swap for the same price model or higher one but u have to top up the price difference if im not mistaken

getting pissed play play 2-4minutes game then BSOD..

i think i will just change the mobo.... the mobo should be new, cannot be recond. and according to acer, that will take 3 days, of other options, will takes few weeks... i cant live without my laptop

i will just wait.if the swap option takes weeks i might as well just change the mobo.

wat u can do ks to lodge a warranty claim (for the gpu, ststing frequent bsod while gaming) while u send it back to highpoint

yeah...when giving them the laptop just do a warranty claim as wwell...kill 2 birds with 1 stone...

the hardware is not broken - all 5750G GPU are experiencing BSOD right? so if claim warranty will they fix the software?

Oh ok. So only some 5750G laptop has GPU BSOD problem? Im one of them then.. arghhh

5750g owner reporting in...

So far having no problems with BSOD... but having problems with COD4 punkbuster restricted drivers... Though this may be more of a software problem...

I would like to point out that I hate NVIDIA Optimus.... I don't get to set my graphic settings High in certain games, as they detect only Intel GPU present...

And NV Optimus doesn't allow for linux direct rendering... I'd rather buy laptops without optimus from nowonwards...

Do you guys think its better to swap motherboard when its available?

I get BSOD with some games only - NFS hot pursuit and when I on back from sleep mode. So maybe you havent triggered BSOD yet. Care to test? Thanks..
