Hello guyz,

I purchase my laptop 5750g as an upgrade for my older 5745g laptop so i can play starcraft 2 at better graphic settings but unfortunately I keep on getting random BSOD while playing starcraft 2 which I never had with my older 5745g.

I already sent this 5750g unit to your service center and they said that this is a problem with game compatibility and not hardware. the technician may be right since I was able to complete crysis 2 and black ops with less BSOD as compared to starcraft which I always experience every time i play. The technician in service center upgraded the bios while before sending to them I performed a system recovery. I also recently updated the latest driver from nvidia website.

this unit is 2nd batch, blue one, bios version 1.1.

I am now playing sc2 using the intel gpu the the lowest graphics settings and never had BSOD.

I have a 5750G too, and I am running SC2 on medium settings without any BSOD. It can also run on ultra and extreme settings, but I'm afraid to run for a long period of time because the CPU temp reaches 95+ deg C.

BTW guys, which cooling pad would you recommend for the 5750G?

I'm also using 5750G and running StarCraft 2 on ultra settings (1366x768) but with shadows and shaders lighting put to low. Getting an average 60 - 70 FPS, never encounter BSOD since the day I bought it.

you can google for this bsod

STOP 0x00000116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
Usual causes:  Video driver, overheating, bad video card, ?BIOS, ?Power to card

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception.

The VIDEO_TDR_ ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000116. This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.

I think this is driver/game problem. Try different game setings / vsync on/of / different resolutions / or different drivers.
SC2 is freaking game for many graphic cards.

Thanks for the reply...

my driver is updated...temp does not go more than 75°C, Bios is updated and SC2 settings are set to lowest however the problems still persist. I tried playing Singularity and the same problem happens...

I have already set the max fps to 40 by inserting the following lines in variables.txt.
frameratecap=40
frameratecapGlue=30

However, I still see the temp reach 95 deg C at medium settings! I'm planning to go to Low Yat Plaza tomorrow to buy the Zalman NC2000 cooling pad.
Any other recommendations, guys?

If you ignore the cost, which one can cool the 5750G better --- Zalman NC2000 or Cooler Master U3?

I had already decided to buy the Zalman NC2000 --- but I couldn't find it in Low Yat. All the shops said they were out of stock. They only had the Zalman NC 1000 and 1500. So I bought the Cooler Master U3.

Results:
Using my previous cheap cooling pad: Max Temp = 98 deg C
Using the Cooler Master U3: Max Temp = 85 deg C

Yea.its a cheaper alternative to Zalman NC2000.And its quite efficient too.
The pad doubled as the laptop cover if u remove the fan.

OK, I finally got my laptop back (2nd time already). I was one of those encountering nvlddmkm.sys BSODs when playing games.

According to the report, they seem to have changed the whole motherboard. I am still yet to check and see if it's true.

But I want to be more careful this time. I suspect that my GPU died because of too much heat the last time. I am looking for a cooling pad and want to buy a Zalman one.

Is NC1000 big enough for the 5750G or do I need to go for NC2000? Or the NC2500? NC3000S?

How do you know if your GPU died? Have you tried playing any games to verify that everything is okay after the service?

But I think your laptop should be fine now after the change of the motherboard.

Being more precise, I suspect the VRAM. OCCT VRAM Memtest gave me thousands of errors when ran simultaneously along Prime95 and FurMark. I would also get a nvlddmkm.sys BSOD when playing games (with random delay).

I did not verify it yet, the laptop came back on Friday.

Anyway, I went to a computer store (not the one in which I bought my 5750G - I bought it online) and the clerk advised me not to buy any cooling pad. He said it would be better to use the laptop normally and let the GPU overheat and die again. He said that sending it for repair of the same part for the 3rd time will give me more customer rights and I should be able to enforce unit swap or full refund with the help of State Inspection of Trade.

However, I still hope that this motherboard will prove fine and it will not happen again. But the GPU temperature still hits 96 degrees though so who knows...

if they replace the mothrerboard they will likely change the GPU as well as it is combined together with the motherboard.

They already did change the mobo+GPU.

So far it SEEMS (I may be wrong) to be OK. But nobody knows for how long it will... dry.gif

I bought it in May so I pretty much have around 10 months of warranty more. I did not pay for a laptop that isn't going to work the way I want it.

Just wondering if your laptop is first or second batch? Blue or black?

Did you encounter freeze or you have to wait very long at the windows 7 loading screen with the four colourful dots (which forms a Windows 7 logo)?

My Acer Aspire 5750G is working fine now. Boot time is around 1 minute.

Try Run --->> MSCONFIG --->> Click STARTUP --->> Uncheck some programs at start up

First batch which is black has a lot of other problems besides having BSOD during gaming. Just an advice. Send it to the Acer service centre, and claims your warranty. Ask them to change the motherboard...definitely fix your problem
