In reply to your questions in the previous thread. I just use my fingers to clean it or perhaps an eraser. One more thing you can check are the pins on on the Magsafe connector. They're spring loaded. Maybe one of them is stuck.

It's only V7 for the thread not MacBooks..

personally i will advise u to connect ur adapter whenever it is possible when using the macbook. because if u let it drain and charge it back, then it will eat up the charge cycle and the battery will end up depleted and it will not be covered under the AppleCare protection plan even the date is not expired yet (3 years).

But not 24/7 .. as from my personal experience .. replaced my battery 4 times already.. Most of the time, my charger was connected to the MBP.. my charge cycle for the previous batteries were less than 50 each but the batteries died so fast..

yup, so like i said, better to charge it 24/7 and let it spoil rather than let the thing to deplete by charging it only when u need. coz if u are a heavy user, i believe by the beginning of the 3rd year, you already used up all ur charge cycle d.

apalaa... when its fully charged, the Mac will draw power thru the wall plug and not the battery. that's why your power icon changes to a plug

Looking at the power usage of the proc lower than current Core2Duo but performance more than i7 920 desktop version

if the MBP 13" gets i7 processor, i wonder what proccesor will apple put into the 15" & 17" MBP's??

I thought the TDP for the current mobile i7 and the new SB i7 is the same.

i wanna ask if anyone having problem with the wifi...

for me when i open my macbook pro from sleep mode, the wifi will connect but then it takes sometime only it can online...i cannot load any website as if i am offline and i have to wait around 10 minutes then only i can open the webpage...is this normal???

the MBW/MBP13 never get the better procs... i'd say just i3, not even i5

10 minutes definitely is too long. What router are you using? I'm using a DLink DIR-655. Sometimes my MBP is connected to my iPad running MyWi. In neither case, do I have any probs connecting to the Internet after waking from sleep.

yes, eventually you need to get the battery replaced.
dont use fully drain then charge, that make the battery getting worsed.
dont use in too cold/too hot condition

Yet to see any swelling battery case on unibody models peronally. It happened mostly on older design Alu MacBook Pro and black/white MacBook that uses removable battery design.

as I expected.. mac users are usually dumb in terms of hardware... you can google it.. it even cooler than current proc, more powerful, high TDP but use lower power... its i7 use even lower power than current Intel 2.4Ghz on MBP 13"


demand for high end proc in MBP 13" is really high now.. maybe Apple come out with that

bro, i'm having the same problem with my mpro 13" and macbook alu.. are u using Innacomm modem provided by TMnet? my problem occurred when they changed my modem to Innacomm..

I disagree and I think such statement are inappropriate! I found even more other platform users that are not so hardware savvy (since the number of other platform is greater). But I agree many LYN user like to get spoon-fed. It has nothing to do with Mac user or not. They are just lazy, even to search and read.

Although Sandy Bridge is better in terms of thermal and power consumption, we still have to put the whole system in mind. Things like GPU, HDD, DC-in, LCD all can generate heat and/or suck power. My wish-list is dumping the optical drive and make it even lighter, slimmer and longer battery life. And maybe flash storage as default?

Come on man, I didn't say you were dumb. If I implied that, I apologise. Having said that...

The TDP is the same. 35w for 640m & 2620M. You don't have to google it. No sense in being lazy when the official info is available from Intel. It's in Intel tech notes for the Sandy Bridge CPU. When an engineer designs an enclosure for a CPU, the TDP is what they design for. The TDP correlates directly to heat. You can read up more about it in the library.

Things you can try on your wifi router:
1. Set a channel instead of using Auto.
2. Use a fixed channel width, say 20MHz, instead of Auto.
3. If you don't need b/g/n. Set to n only or g/n.
4. Try turning off UPNP on the router.
5. Keep the modem provided by Telekom's lowest bidder as a backup and buy a cheap TPLink or DLink.

Let us know if any of the above helps. I'm sure there're plenty more people encountering this prob.

Yeah, they test i7 QUAD CORE.. not normal dual core i7 as current lineup.. graphics are integrated to processor itself.. not on the motherboard..

read in library is only reading architecture... which isn't doing the test in real world~

First thing, don't go to the PAM library when dealing with CPUs. They are entirely devoted to architecture.

Second, none of the articles you linked to validates anything that you have said. Care to explain?

Third, when proving yourself correct, use proper sentence structure to avoid ambiguity.

Yesterday, at last, after days of procrastination, I hooked up my new MBP to the 24" Dell monitor. My current setup is MBP to 24" Dell via DVI. My other "Mac" is now relegated to using the VGA port on the Dell monitor. My Dell only has 1 DVI and 1 VGA. I have one set of keyb/mouse so the other "Mac" is controlled through Apple Remote Desktop. Very convenient. Basically the other "Mac" has effectively now become a headless server but is still very important to my setup because of the multiple eSata docks connected to it.

ok let say the next gen mbp 13 will come out with i5.
now mbp 15 are using 2 fans to control the temp so if the next mbp 13 is i5/i7 proc, how do the mbp wants to control the temp with 1 fan?

i'm sure destfull has an answer since we Mac users are usually dumb in terms of hardware? hmm?

Of course. You just have to get different plug

No prob, Japan is 100v which the MacBook adaptor supports. Japan's non-polarized electrical outlets are identical to US ones, 2 identical size metal prongs, which you already have. If you find a polarised outlet where one prong is larger than the other, it'll still work, the MacBook adaptor doesn't mind. Anyway if you're staying in a hotel, not too worry, they'll have universal outlets for every conceivable plug, including Malaysian ones. Safest bet is to bring the US plug, it's like US Dollars, it's accepted anywhere in the world. Well, except maybe for Europe.

Does anyone know where I can get a MiniDP > HDMI with USB Audio adapter in KL?

Cheapest I can find is from Ebay RM166 with shipping.

On Amazon there is one from Kanex which supports 5.1 audio too but wont ship to Malaysia.

Not all MBP are supported. Only the ones from mid-2010 is supported. Mine is Mid 2009 MBP.

The iWork downloadable version has a serial number but the retail ones don't.

I had a MBA that showed the "Service Battery" warning even though the battery was OK. Recalibrated according to Apple's instructions a few times and it was gone.

@ Isaac Chong each release of Mac OS X has a marketing name.

typically, upgrades are not free.
the last upgrade (10.5 to 10.6) cos RM109 only. Also, all Macs purchased after the release of a new version will come with the new version.

@monked that depends on the user. there's nothing in a Mac nowadays that makes it a "designer" -oriented computer.

I've been recommending Macs because they're easier to use. like a BMW, where you don't need to know anything about engines or transmissions or drive ratios. to drive a BMW, you need to know how to steer (turn the round one left to go left and right to go right) and the pedals (left one to stop, right one to go) and the P.R.N.D ...

But I have to say after trying Macs few years ago I will still continue to support Mac as my secondary computer. I still need windows as my primary for a lot of reasons =D

@ xaw5126.....do u think its hard to drive an automatic proton/perodua or any other car models now days? the answer is "NO" cause they are all user friendly enough. when we talk about BMW, its about the quality and precision engineering compare to proton or perodua.
u dont have to know about the engine driving a myvi though....
for me, i just love mac OS compare to windows although i have been using windows for the last 15 years at least
btw, i totally ditched windows as i dont really need windows to run any of my programs or what so ever. mac os does it all for me

Basically, yes thats what i do. But since u're going to use at home, it's no harm to switch on the plug and use all the while.

i read from the previous post from you guys 'insulting' the 13" mbp with the heat issues. Frankly speaking, i nvr had any prblem with heat on my 13".

Yes yes, 13" have a lower specs compared to 15" obviously. I get that.
But the reason why i go for 13" is because its lighter than 15". I love small, compact and easy to carry around.

I dont mind paying for 15" specs with 13" size.

New MBPs are here. The 13" now available in i7! 15" are all 2.0, 2.2 or 2.3GHz quad-core. can't decide whether that's a good thing.

Slightly cheaper than the last model.

Some more got Thunderbolt. So now the external drives can have theoretically higher speeds than the internal ones. LOL.

Dumb Mac user here need some advice.

Should I keep my 2.8Ghz 2core i7 or get rid of it and get a 2.3Ghz 4core i7?

The most CPU intensive stuff I do is probably Gaussian Blur in Photoshop and some h264 video encoding.

Other stuff I noticed:

Apple prices for the 256GB SSD is actually not too bad.

FaceTime-HD! RIP, iSight.

Larger trackpad, nice, I guess.

Thunderbolt, bet the peripherals' prices will be thru the roof. Max speed 10GBit. That's faster than the internal HD. Anyone know if the internal SATA are 3GBit or 6GBit? Chipsets for Sandy Bridge CPUs should be 6GB right?

Any opinions on the discrete AMD card?

Longer battery life is always welcomed. (oh no, shorter battery life, because of the quads I guess)

And a little bit lighter too. I think. (nope, maybe not)
