QUOTE(cherroy @ Mar 9 2011, 03:40 PM) It is good reading. Mine only get 18-19. At first, it showed 50-60, After clean the fibre with alcohol, and make a new connector (Fibre end), reading was 18-19. I wonder if it's possible to access the BTU and get the reading, like how we could do it with ADSL modems.

QUOTE(chinkw1 @ Mar 9 2011, 03:58 PM) 1. If during thunderstorm and lightning, do we need to off power to BTU, router and deck phone?? 2. Will lightning fry them?? 3. Do we need to unplug the fiber optic wire going into the BTU ?? When using streamyx last time, we used to unplug telephone line entering into modem. Added on March 9, 2011, 3:59 pm1. When using streamyx last time, we used to unplug telephone line entering into modem. no need to un plug the btu optic wire cause it no conduct electric. But you can turn off the device to prevent power down during thunder storm. Or install an AVR To protect it.

Finally joined the vip5 club.
Here's a few issues:
1)So much for free installation and one month free.Charged me rm400(rm300 for line and stuff and rm100 for installing through the ceiling).Very lame...
2)IMHO please do change the router to another one.Using the tp link router now.For default router wifi number cannot change(for what reason i have no idea).I even gotta call up unifi call centre to get the router password.
For any new subscribers just be wary of the above issues.

There is a table of charges which includes what is given in free installation and what is not, I presume you had checked it before agreeing to pay? Installation can basically be free if you don't mind a hole through your wall and placing your BTU within 15m fibre from that spot. But you really shouldn't expect people to crawl through your ceiling FOC.

I saw some houses have PVC plastic conduit n some don't have. So I called the sales n they said it's provided. Is it correct ? I don't want to argue later with the contractor later as cheat if they said it's chargeable. Added on March 9, 2011, 10:12 pmQUOTE(cherroy @ Mar 7 2011, 04:41 PM) Standard pricing for every 5M - Rm50. The installer told me, there was once (since the area is all Biz, company/industrial area), there is one company use until 100m. I thought 1m is rm 50? My neighbor contractor told me this quote. How come different? This post has been edited by hackwire: Mar 9 2011, 10:12 PM

How come different? Ya, if you installed 1M also Rm50. 2m - RM50. 3M - Rm50 5M - Rm50 6M - Rm100 They count by 5m per block, as far as I was told.

I think TM can clarify about the need to give up old telephone number when getting Unfii.
One of neighbours enquired with TM about subscribing to Unifi and was told that he cannot maintain the old telephone number and he will be given a new number. He told them that this was a deal breaker and he didn't want to subscribe to Unifi anymore if he had to change the number.
However, the next day someone from TM call back and told him that he can maintain current landline by: 1. Register for Unifi with new phone line 2. Cancel existing Streamyx but maintain old telephone line for one month 3. Then they can do the switch from 2nd month onwards....i.e, old telephone number will be ported into Unifi number. 4. From 2nd month onwards there won't be any rental charges for old telephone - only Unifi package charges.
I think TM needs to clarify this. Their own salespeople are unaware of this. Obviously all the resellers selling Unifi will not have any clue at all that there is a possibility of maintaining old telephone number! The cost is only one month rental for all telephone line.
(Sorry for the repost - thought it would be good to get a reply on the "official" Unifi topic).

The default password should be... no password! Check http://unifi.athena.my for the list of all possible ones. The wifi ssid, channel n all can be changed via manual wireless configuration.

Saw the receipt given by the contractor. It says 15m x rm21=rm315 but they charged rm300 and rm100 for climbing ceiling.Sure is good money for them.

QUOTE(nairud @ Mar 9 2011, 11:06 AM) sigh... damn bad luck man yesterday tech guy came, checked the signal at the phone pole, good. then proceed with cabling and drilling. check the signal at the end of the fibre, still good. proceed with modem, etc installation... ended up the modem cant get connected to the internet. they troubleshoot for 2 hours and then called TM to find out why. TM called back and told them that the fibre box at the phone pole is not really connected to the internet. Something like streamyz open port. TM can even ping the box but it's not connected. They'll come over to check but they didnt even give me any reference number. apparently, i'm the first person to use that box in my area Hehe, I experienced almost similar thing like what has happened to you. Since I was the first, they took longer time though Im staying at the high rise condo. Apparently there was some pairing mistake that they did during the preliminary setup. The pairing was connected to other apartment next to mine. They took more than 2 hours to really locate the problem, but eventually it works Fortunately, I have been dealing with very nice Unifi technicians so far.. Btw, my post on Sreamyx vs Unifi !
