how can just a few meters away also cannot browse the website. very slow.

You're connecting to router or BTU? D-link router is using 192.168.0.1 by default
Erm... That D-link router, DIR-615 is very very well known for its poor signal. Get tp-link tl-wr841ND to replace it!

hi IwanAGP.

I just discover very weird thing with my Macbook wi-fi when trying to handshake with Unifi .At first, i thought it is the Unifi Modem Signal which is weak downstairs. My modem is upstairs where my living hall is and the distance should be about a floor heights of about 10meter or 15 meter the most.

I took my laptop to upstairs and the laptop wifi can handshake with the device again, took it down again and the connection is lost and the wifi signal is not weak thus the indication just go "gray" undetected .
I try using my Iphone to handshake with the Unifi and it works. There's no problem watching Apple trailer in my Iphone but my macbook cant at all. My macbook can watch Apple Trailer upstairs without any problem.

Is it my macbook or the modem?

Should be the router. My router is right behind the wall of my room while I use inside the room. I'm using dell studio 15 with win7. Sometimes the exclamation mark showed up, which means no internet access. I need to disconnect and reconnect. Signal wise, it fluctuate from full, 6 bars to 3 bars... Problematic router that is...

but the thing is that my Iphone wifi can browse the Safari and also view youtube video . Wifi in macbook cannot connect network...

I saw some houses have PVC plastic conduit n some don't have. So I called the sales n they said it's provided. Is it correct ? I don't want to argue later with the contractor later as cheat if they said it's chargeable.

Standard pricing for every 5M - Rm50.

The installer told me, there was once (since the area is all Biz, company/industrial area), there is one company use until 100m.

I thought 1m is rm 50? My neighbor contractor told me this quote. How come different?

I think TM can clarify about the need to give up old telephone number when getting Unfii.

One of neighbours enquired with TM about subscribing to Unifi and was told that he cannot maintain the old telephone number and he will be given a new number. He told them that this was a deal breaker and he didn't want to subscribe to Unifi anymore if he had to change the number.

However, the next day someone from TM call back and told him that he can maintain current landline by:
1. Register for Unifi with new phone line
2. Cancel existing Streamyx but maintain old telephone line for one month
3. Then they can do the switch from 2nd month onwards....i.e, old telephone number will be ported into Unifi number.
4. From 2nd month onwards there won't be any rental charges for old telephone - only Unifi package charges.

I think TM needs to clarify this. Their own salespeople are unaware of this. Obviously all the resellers selling Unifi will not have any clue at all that there is a possibility of maintaining old telephone number! The cost is only one month rental for all telephone line.

(Sorry for the repost - thought it would be good to get a reply on the "official" Unifi topic).
*
can someone authenticate or seconded this? how true is this? many of us would like to maintain old number. telekom should have offer it as Free.

Ya, if you installed 1M also Rm50.
2m - RM50.
3M - Rm50
5M - Rm50
6M - Rm100

They count by 5m per block, as far as I was told.

i think im going to buy my own pvc casing as it's not that expensive for protecting the outside rain and heat.

Is it true that bending of the fibre optic can cause breakage to the glass especially when comes to the wall corner? as i know optic is made of glass and a hammer knocking on it will cause a few hundred dollars.

When the contractors visited the house, what will be the most important thing to look out for before signing the paper after they had install everything and leave the place for another rush job? As you know, contractors are contractors who are quite linear in their work when comes to rush work.

I can name a few thing here but perhaps there are other thing that i miss.

1) Ask them what's the password and changing the password without screwing the configuration for newbie like me.

2) Confirm there's no extra charges before signing
3) IPTV password and everything in good order .
4) Make sure that they setup the security to WPA .
5) Disable Remote Management
6) Telephone Check
7) Wireless Area Check with own laptop
8) Get the person name and contact number in case we need him back or report to Telekom for whatsoever reason.. hell knows
9) Check cable installation for any shoddy work like few wall plugs etc
10) Remote Control Functioning

Anything else...?

When will be the best time to terminate streamyx account? the sales lady Tina, told me that it's best to terminate on the 2nd month... WoW! Am i going to pay Streamyx RM 140 @ RM 280 for wastage?

Please advise is this necessary as my Unifi setup is on the 19th? and does the pro-rate begin from the 19th or 20th-30th of the month end?

thanks.

i terminated my streamyx 1 month before i even register for unifi... (i can survive without internet at home)...

actually there is a bit of confusion i notice regarding unifi registeration for many people...

a) Unifi and streamyx is not related and not dependent on each other. In other words if our area is unifi serviceable then we can have both unifi and streamyx or we can terminate the streamyx. Termination is not necessarily after unifi installation. It can be anytime... perhaps the reason many received suggestion to terminate streamyx after unifi installation is because in case the unifi installation have problem we still have internet at home with streamyx

b) As part of the package (VIP), we are entitled to have 1 (one) VOIP number. We can not use existing landline number for unifi registration. It runs on two separate system. However, we may choose to keep the old number and end up with two numbers. Both have two separate billing. Again, termination of the existing number/line can be done anytime either before, during or after unifi installation...

c) Current promotion period ends 31 March. As long we register during the period we are entitled to whatever discount they give irrespective of installation date.

d) Advanced user may refer to http://unifi.athena.my as the site have detail information about improving our unifi experience..

as for the unifi billing, i received mine yesterday... and pro-rate begin from the date i started using the service (the installalation date) + stamp duty + 6% tax.
hope this helps!

thanks for the clarification. i guess i just wait for unifi installation first before i terminate the old one.
end of the month.

hey guys, just want to find out how things work between a customer vs contractor vs Telekom about the Wifi Coverage Area.

If i install my system upstairs and i get the wifi upstairs with good signal bar displayed and not downstairs, will this void the contract with Telekom or we can ask the contractor to ensure that the coverage is equally covered in all areas in the house.

Can Telekom replace the modem if the customers cannot get a satisfactorily result from this installation.

What happen ? I know many are tempted to have speed broadband and accepted the terms very fast after the installation even when the promises of wifi coverage is below par.

Is there a method to test out the wifi coverage by the contractors to check first before they leave? who knows maybe they could do something to improve it in the configuration which they can?

my installation is also upstairs (no tv upstairs, trying to do point2point ap downstairs)... in my case i have no trouble getting connected anywhere in my house; downstairs, kitchen, outside....

the supplied wifi router is already preconfigured for optimum wifi coverage... there is not much the contractor can do...

to have wifi equally covered in all areas in the house depends on various factors (including faulty router)...

TM has no responsibility to make sure every where in the house get connected, they already mentioned here
If you read closely, wifi coverage is an additional benefit... meaning, TM only ensure that you get the unifi connectivity properly (speed, iptv and phone) but not what you intend to do with it...

Thanks a lot and truly understand their terms now... I have no other choices also since i have gone through all the details in this thread and i have figured out to connect my RG from my backroom due to extra cost and hacking work . After getting helps from most of you here, i thought i could solve the Wifi Coverage Area downstairs with Homeplug by TP-link . Initially, i was quite happy with this solution proposed by some of you than when i get deeper into the detail about this tech, this device have two requirements.

1) plug point must be require to be terminated at the same fuse if 3 phase (mine is 3 phase)
2) The device must be connected direct to the wall and must be dedicated by itself or it will not achieve optimum .
(i only have one plug point for the RG and don't have extra point for Homeplug)

Sigh! Anyone had this problem as mine and have it solve for optimum coverage?

ic.. thanks a bunch.

So that means to exchange to TP Link is free? And is it possible to go to TM Point for the exchange? or do one need to apply and wait for the technician to come by?

and you mentioned advanced.. what so advanced? most that i read are poor wifi signal. for control, i see that the DIR also have tweaking menus.

and what about the speed? usually is it over the 5mb range or somewhere in between (4+mb - 5mb) for dl and ul as i see some are over and some are lower. does 4+mb is acceptable?
*
just to assist some sifus here who had helped me so they are not exhausted with noob like us. TP Link modem is not free. I think you need to purchase it. Where did you read or heard of that TPlink is given Free? Somebody gave u wrong info?

yeah , i also need to know what advance means for TPLink ( a third party modem). What i believe by advance is probably one have to tweak the modem for the UNIFI to function as it need to go into the setting . Im not the best in this.

questions here..

i'm currently under contract for TM blockbuster package(RM110). can i upgrade to Unifi? any changes for the blockbuster package tat i terminate??

and when i'm upgrading to Unifi, they will change my house fix line number?
i already change once when i upgrade to blockbuster package.

u might want to read the first page of the thread. many answers were supplied there already.
another way to find out your problem is to use google . type the thing u like to ask and don't forget to use Lowyat as keyword. Basically, u will find some of the basic answer also.

yes indeed they will give new number to you. if u want to remain old number, cut streamyx and only pay for the landline every month.

I'm not sure whether this is the solution

192.168.0.1->ID: operator, Pass: h566UniFi->Internet Setup->Manual Internet Setup->Under PPPoE box->Connect mode select->Always instead of connect on demand.

Added on March 21, 2011, 10:57 amAny "Dir-615" expert here? I wanna ask how to setup QoS or to divide the bandwidth equally for a number of users connected? My friend is always downloading with xunlei. I asked him to limit the speed to around 300kB because i dare not to ask him to lower it further down. Surfing is not to say lag but when watching youtube vid then it'd lag for sure... I want to do something in the router side to cap his download speed and for all of us too. Means when 5 users connected, I want a equal bandwidth among 5 of us which is 1Mbps per user, on VIP5. Is that possible?

Hi Iwan,

I follow the handbook instruction and manage to go into the Dlink Configuration 192.168.01 .
I follow your instruction as stated above and my login id is admin , pasword: blank. (found in unifi handbook)
May i know how come your default login id and password different. Is it the same?

My setting in Connect Mode Select is already " Always" .
I noticed the Max Idle Time is : 5 min. ( grey out) (can't change this).

Every time i have to reboot my modem because it keep login out every time . Did you guys face this same problem.
I will test it out this afternoon again. i will leave it switch on. Will see if it happen again.
