I think TM can clarify about the need to give up old telephone number when getting Unfii.

One of neighbours enquired with TM about subscribing to Unifi and was told that he cannot maintain the old telephone number and he will be given a new number. He told them that this was a deal breaker and he didn't want to subscribe to Unifi anymore if he had to change the number.

However, the next day someone from TM call back and told him that he can maintain current landline by:
1. Register for Unifi with new phone line
2. Cancel existing Streamyx but maintain old telephone line for one month
3. Then they can do the switch from 2nd month onwards....i.e, old telephone number will be ported into Unifi number.
4. From 2nd month onwards there won't be any rental charges for old telephone - only Unifi package charges.

I think TM needs to clarify this. Their own salespeople are unaware of this. Obviously all the resellers selling Unifi will not have any clue at all that there is a possibility of maintaining old telephone number! The cost is only one month rental for all telephone line.

(Sorry for the repost - thought it would be good to get a reply on the "official" Unifi topic).

can someone authenticate or seconded this? how true is this? many of us would like to maintain old number. telekom should have offer it as Free.

Ya, if you installed 1M also Rm50.
2m - RM50.
3M - Rm50
5M - Rm50
6M - Rm100

They count by 5m per block, as far as I was told.

thanks cheroy for the feedback. anyone getting the PVC white pipe for Free or you guys paid extra for it? According to the Sales person , it was provided as free for the 15 m , is it true? Than how come certain houses their wire seems to be naked..? I wonder what's gonna happen in 5 years time due to wear and tear if not protected properly?

Oops sorry not router password but the pppoe password.

Saw the receipt given by the contractor. It says 15m x rm21=rm315 but they charged rm300 and rm100 for climbing ceiling.Sure is good money for them.

if you are the one who registering the unifi, you should be getting an email from them pertaining all the package given including the username and password for each service. the tech didnt give it to you because you should have it.

before getting them to do their job, did you ask them about the charges that gonna be involve? if you did not you shouldnt be complaining about that. if you did ask them, you shouldnt be complaining either, because you already aware and agreed to that charges. either way you cant complaint because you already agreed to the initial 15 meters wiring and those 'minimal drilling'. even their website stated, if you require other than the stated installation, you are required to pay for that.

i'm not trying to put a flame on you, but any potential customer should know this, or at least read in their website

your existing phone service is using POTS while the one provided by unifi is VOIP. maintaining the old number shouldnt be a problem, but the process on moving from existing system to new system is not convenient, that's why the said, ' u cant retain'. end of story

the installer can help you put in the pvc white pipe but with additional chargers. what they gave you for free is the U hook (similar to astro)

What I find amusing is that your internet speed is apparently 60% faster than other people in Malaysia. Haha. Anyway, you should REALLY lodge a report about it. That speed is not acceptable.

not true. you can't port your PSTN number outside your exchange. and unifi is totally different service, HSBC. but i think you can port your unifi number if you moved.

i think it will take years for TM to sort out their PSTN database to enable LNP.

For normal PSTN line, there's a call forwarding service, so in theory could forward incoming calls to unifi number. The only downside is have to pay to maintain old number unless TM willing to give free.

Yeah, I also think true number portability is hard if not impossible to achieve. I worked with some of the telephone exchanges before.. they are really ancient beasts from the 70s. I doubt such funky per-number routing would work without some significant upgrade which would cost TM a lot of money. Not worth it since unifi market so small.

Of course it can be done but they don't want to because it's troublesome. They are not trying to serve customer but just want to milk more money from us.

they didnt gave me any PVC pipe, they just fixed the line using the clip/hook onto the wall, very crude. People could just come and cut the line if they want to.
the way they put the cable under the manhole outside the house is also in LOL condition.

If this is true then I will apply for UniFi also.
I did asked at TM Point before regarding this. They said can maintain existing number. But I worry they misunderstand me as TM called me as I registered my interest, the spoke person told me cannot.
Think I have to go to TM Point clarify again.

Actually they don't provide the casing for the cables outside or inside. If you want it then they will charge for it as it's not within their contract with TM. I had a long chat with them yesterday when they installed mine. It's seems like they have 2 team, one doing the cabling from the Distribution Point (the green box or the grey box hanging on the telephone post) to the FTB (Fiber Termination Box) while the other will be doing from FTB to inside of your house.

BTW ... anyone know how to change the unifi email and Streamyx Zone password?

If they use good quality tape (like 3M brand) it should last forever. However kinda odd they use tape cos nails actually much cheaper than tape.

PVC pipe is not provided.

If you want to conceal the fibre cable into PVC pipe, you need to pay for it.

15m is the fibre length given free to you, from DP until your BTU.
