Just helped a friend flash Speedmod to his new phone.

Guess what I discovered? GPS locked in 25 seconds and the phone was just newly flashed (to Froyo). And SIM card was not present, meaning that it's not using A-GPS and I tried that inside my room.

Dang! Even mine with A-GPS takes longer than that.

Yes. But unused ram is a wasted ram. It'd make no difference if ram is bumped to 4gb if a lot of them goes unused.

You can have a beautiful functional ubuntu linux desktop for under 512ram. My netbook takes 57MB ram only. If android needs more, it speaks inefficiency (like windows). IMO, the 1gb ram is needed to play high end 3d games. One day if I decide I wanted to play 3d games, it'd be a minimum of 1gb ram with a core2duo level of performance - can use hdmi cable to play on tv. Right now, this phone suffices for me. Different people will have different needs.

true. you are right.
but from consumer standpoint, its better to have more & wasted ram than not enough rclxms.gif so i say the more the merrier.

just because today we do no see the need to utilize that much ram, doesn't mean tomorrow it won't be utilized smile.gif

Yup.
Consumer pov: Bigger is always better right smile.gif
The average joe and jane will always think 1gb to be better than 512 or 768mb ram. even though they may not utilize half of it.

I remember long time ago at lowyat plaza, there were banners advertising intel's 4mb L2 cache or something. I'm sure normal consumer have no idea what it means.

Samsung pov: Samsung is leveraging its advantage in flash memories. might as well put in 1gb

My pov: satisfied with my phone. Not impressed with games on the phone. If I want to play high end games, I use my desktop.

Verdict: imo, sgs2 will sell well. because of its brilliant screen and availability.

addon: There's very little info about kal-el but this is mindblowing drool.gif http://androidcommunity.com/kal-el-nvidia-...gra-2-20110218/

Lucky them! That means its hardware related rite?

Just tested different modem rite now. Unfortunately, i cannot conclude which modem has the best combination for fastest+stable fixed. They vary each time i tested. This includes zsjpe, jpp, jpx, jpy, dxjpb and dxjpa.

Btw, new gto ultimate is out! very smooth without lagifx+low memory killer option(hc ver is fixed)+350mb ram with 720p video recording! cool2.gif

There is both ZSJPE amd ZSJPD link. You mean ZSJPD is correct link?
*
nono should be ZSJPE. i meant the megaupload link somehow directs you to JPD download which is the wrong one. i used rapidshare

if you have not download, this is the one

When I tested the GPS on the SGS earlier, I don't have GPS aids enabled, cause I haven't got time to fiddle with the settings yet.

I thought it's more for power saving?

A-gps is power saving coz its not using gps to get sat-lock. It uses data from telco network instead. The biggest power draw from any phone would be gps. Enabling a-gps not only make it faster to lock, but also make it more battery friendly.

Btw, have u tested your friend gps again just to double confirm it can lock within 25sec?

Tried again on 2nd time, it locked in 29 sec.

Without A-GPS as well, cause sim card hasn't been put in yet. And again, sensor aiding was not enabled.

Not sure should it be enabled.. I've tried enabled it. Guess what? Quadrant score slightly lower and battery consumption slightly higher than turning them off! Maybe this happens only on mine.. hmm.gif Btw this was tested on k13b

To test the battery life, wait for few cycles then only the battery will perform at its optimum. For gps fix, start first with downloading GPS Aids from the market. Further inquiries bout the software can be tracked on this link.

I've posted few gps fixed. U can traced back to my previous post. Not sure it will help u. But it did helped me! Just make sure u have nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong!

Probably! That's why the quadrant score slightly lower in exchange for a smoother interface! But i don't really mind bout the quadrant score as its not a good measurement of how slick the phone is
