try my gps at another location and it is still superb.... the best i seen so far ever, period..

im not sure whether it is the modem cause i just change to zsjpe or it is the gps aid.

i try uninstall gps aid and delete the gps data, reboot. and my gps still locking fast and superb.

so here it is,

im calling out to all SGSrian to try and experiment this, especially those who keen about GPS

1st, flash zsjpe modem:
http://hotfile.com/dl/105928901/febb795/ZSJPE.tar.html

put the .tar in the PHONE section of odin. no pit, other leave blank.

this will not wipe the phone.

test the gps out using any gps test app. and take note, the time of locking, the signal strength and the accuracy, the number of satellite

THEN, you install https://market.android.com/details?id=ltodo...e=search_result

if native mthod fail then do the brute force, you must have internet connection....

do another gps test, and take note of the difference using gps aid and not using it

Lucky them! That means its hardware related rite?

Just tested different modem rite now. Unfortunately, i cannot conclude which modem has the best combination for fastest+stable fixed. They vary each time i tested. This includes zsjpe, jpp, jpx, jpy, dxjpb and dxjpa.

Btw, new gto ultimate is out! very smooth without lagifx+low memory killer option(hc ver is fixed)+350mb ram with 720p video recording!  cool2.gif

I think all SGS is the same...

It is not possible for Samsung to Just change the Design and Arcitechture of the Phone just like that...

If the SGS GPS is defect, consumer have the rights to replace or change the GPS chip.... and it is definately not GPS defect since almost ALL the user around the world faces the same problem..

But in SGS case, it is similar to the Iphone ... it is due to the poorly executed design of the hardware placement....

And it is IMPOSSIBLE for samsung to just REVAMPED the whole SGS hardware placement ...

When the phone is release for the public... Everything is FINAL ... just like how steve job defended the iphone 4 problem and offer bumper and refund ... because they cant just change the design of the hardware in a newer batch .. because older batch consumers have the right to replace their defected phone to a newer "Working" batch of phones...

The only thing that could be change is the firmware...

What you people heard is more like the optimism of a phone user .... just like how some user would say "My papago is very accurate and all sort of stuff.... while others claim that PAPAGO is inaccurate and is not the best solution"

Besides... i tested my friend SGS bought @ december ..... SEALED, STOCK and Orginal firmware .... it feels JUST THE same as my SGS when i first got it .....

Im quite satisfy with my GPS now .... since im already on a unlimited data plan .... the GPS works realy well as long as there is Data...

Btw... GPS AIDS is not as useful as it sound...... Ive tested it and this is what ive found

GPS AIDS actualy stores AGPS data in your phone .... giving you a faster lock and search for satalite...

It is said that it is very useful for those who doesn't have data and it is mention by the creator that users can use this app to download the XTRA data before going out ...

But what i found out is .... IF ... you are at a location that JUST CANT get GPS position .... the app would automaticly prompt you to restart your Wifi ... and alas the data still cant be downloaded..

If you selected the FORCED DOWNLOAD mode... it would force download it and shows "Succesfull"

But no matter what... even after you force download it .... you would still not get a lock no matter what if you cant get a lock at the first place...

my test result is this (Indoors):

-DATA-GPS AIDS = Cannot get a lock at all
+DATA -GPS AIDS = Lock within 30 sec
+DATA + GPS AIDS = More or Less the same with +Data -GPS AIDS
-DATA +GPS AIDS = More or Less the same with +Data -GPS AIDS

So.. Basicly .. it just helps you to lock without having Data ....

However... im pretty sure if you move out from your "comfort zone" you would have to lock to diff satalites... (correct me if im wrong) ... thus you have to have data to download the GPS AIDS again ....

If im wrong on that part... it might be useful for those without Data ... But for those who already got unlimited data .... theres no point in using this app..

From my point of view... its more like a gimmick to let you see your SGS able to lock fast without Data .... thats about it...

i did as what silentser advise. flash ZSJPE modem. it will change the baseband version.

GPS signal lock seems better but not fast enough (tested indoor).

summary:
1. GPS on SGS is poor. bad design perhaps?
2. GPS aids give us XTRA feature like in previous samsung phone. it help GPS module to lock signal faster but due to poor GPS module, SGS still takes some time to lock. thus GPS aids is some what useless. uninstall! (result may varies for you)

now stick with ZSJPE modem and montor the performance.

Firstly, why out of sudden zsjpe modem ought to be the best modem for gps? To me, it is worse than dxjpb (our region) modem. The best from my previous findings would be xxjpy/xxjpx or dxjpp modem. Tried that one first.

Second, no one seems to bother to look back at my previous post about the best combination for gps fix... cry.gif

@holypredator

U have to understand, big manufacturer like samsung won't admit that they have wrong design for gps. Even if our sgs has a poor design for gps, they still pretend as if nothing wrong with the current design. Why? That would cost them a lot to replace the whole batch!! Imagine how many sgs were sold for the past few months!

So they quietly fixed it through latest sgs batch. That's how manufacturer can maintain their profit.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

From the fixed that i performed, i can get lock at an average of less than a minute for cold start. For hot start would be less than 10sec. All this test performed indoor mind u. Different phone would have different result. So never expect that one fix would fit all hp.
