maybe MBB is subsidising 1 GST?

Yes MBB is subsidizing the GST for the Amex. In product info it is marked as waived.

No need to care about that. They are willing to offer that to consumer so just enjoy it.

mbb got money ... look at their 15% cash rebate and the allocation for each month. no other bank can compete with them for that promotion.

you are right on.

Don't know if you guys remember, when the GST was first announced a high ranking officer at MBB said they not waiving it and something like they want "quality" customers. Guess they learned their lesson when many good customer cancel their cards as Malaysians in general always look out for things that is value for money (in other words kedekut). They have started to waive the GST and now 2 cards for price on 1. I guess the 1 statement is a loop hole to go about this ruling.

All thanks to Najib's 1Malaysia campaign. Even Maybank is introducing 1Statement now for this new bundled product thumbup.gif

Anyway, the main reason why Maybank is willing to give 5xTP for each RM1 charged to this new Maybankard AMEX 2 is probably because the RM50 credit card tax ruling has hit their AMEX business hard. The low acceptance rate for AMEX in Malaysia doesn't help either. Maybank took over the AMEX business in Malaysia at a very high cost and i am sure the loyalty fee plus commission Maybank has to pay to American Express Co are enormous. My RM0.02.

Good news.
Called to 1800883231, I was told that new cards issued follows the old cards expiry date for existing customers. So that I can apply now and cancel my petronas gold before the expiry date. That means no GST once the card approved and only pay on the card expiry date.

no diff of acceptance. as long as got amex logo.

the diff is, charge card must pay full balance while credit card can pay minimum balance (actually all credit card should pay full balance too like charge card).
another diff is charge card have no pre-set spending limit, while credit card got credit limit.

btw, mbb webmaster doing copy paste work.
at plat page at top shows "Minimum annual income:RM60,000" but at bottom shows "Malaysians and expatriates with a minimum annual income of RM30,000" (must be copied from gold page. haha)

Thanks for the links. It says AMEX card enjoys the 15% cash back until 28-feb-2011, so all AMEX cards(credit, charge, platinum, gold, pantai, maybankard 2) enjoy such benefits?
