Since some of your are credit/charge card collectors. Can someone tell me what is the use of :

1. AMEX Credit Card
2. AMEX Charge Cards

Since both have very low acceptance... Any difference in terms of acceptance betweent he credit/charge variant?

I have some credit cards with pretty high limit, but then again I really cannot think of how it is going to be useful to me.

I ever asked if I could pay even the downpayment for a house using CC, they said no. Cars dealers as afaik, they don't accept it.

I wanted to invest with an international investment company, also they don't accept credit card.

What's the use of bank assigning high credit limit? I don't buy expensive luxury items, I don't survive on credit card. The high credit limit doesn't seem to serve its purpose. Except for some ppl who might want to have a boost on their ego...

@thtan

Don't generalize just so happen you don't have a use for high limit. If you don't need it then just downgrade your CL and have you done so?
If you have done so then I'll take my hat off and if you had retained your limit then ... you are no different from what you have described yourself people with high CL.
There are people who genuinely need the high limit and I couldn't understand your negative attitude.
I do need the high credit limit, but some merchants/institutions just don't accept credit card for large transactions.
I merely came to highlight the lack of card acceptance for bigger transactions. How is that negative?

It's a matter of personal preference.
Not quite true.
Yeah ... simply waltz in here and broadcast to the whole world that his/her credit cards have high credit line  rolleyes.gif

No intention to brag to the world what limits I have. I just said it is pretty high(in my opinion), not extraordinarily high. If I wanted to brag, probably I'll state the figure and mention what card it is. Don't understand how you guys jump into that conclusion.

Some people keep on harping repeatedly how many premium cards(World Mastercard / Visa Infinite) they own. I don't do that.

some house developer do accept credit card payment.

2008 i bought proton saga blm for my dad, swipe full amount at proton. no problem.

no harm u have high credit limit but dont spend high. its free what? laugh.gif

many people here have a card with 6-figure cl but only use 1 or 2 figure amount each month smile.gif

It's dangerous if you drop the card/get robbed/fraud. Banks may not absorb the losses due to the reasons mentioned, don't assume that(depending on the situation).
It doesn't matter if the limit is high or not. If someone earning 1.5k/month income having 6k charged to his card, he will be in for some tough time.
So what I do is - I keep some cards at home.

i never find merchants that dont accept credit card for large transaction.
i swipe almost rm35k for 1 time at proton no problem.

or, how LARGE amount do u mean? rm100k? shocking.gif
possible they dont accept bcoz the discount rate (or we called it as fee/surcharge for credit card transaction), normal is around 0.5% - 3%.
so if u want to swipe rm100,000 and their rate is 3%, they will received only rm97,000.
rm3000 is a huge amount to 'loss'!
or, if u dont care, offer them to pay the surcharge ~ whistling.gif
but usually merchant will tell if pay via card got surcharge or not? so why they dont want to accept if u pay the surcharge?  hmm.gif
card dropped or get robbed, report bank and police immediately.

for fraud, bank usually call immediately to verify large amount. cimb even called me for rm60 swipe at shell previously!
(maybe bcoz the card never been swiped at shell).
and of coz my rm2k, rm9k also been verified by the bank.

leave the card at home, then how if the home get robbed while u outside?
by the time u at home, the card already been swiped somewhere, u call bank to suspend the card but its too late?

u can search previous thread, i have experience already with rhb.
my card had been fraud at kajang while i'm at kuantan (aliby by police report). bank absord the loss.
but let say if u leave ur card at home at kl, then ur house get robbed and ur card also been fraud at kl, and u also at kl, then? doh.gif

Not so worried about home getting broken in. I think my home is more secure than most homes. Coz the CID HQ is just right behind my house. Just from their office they can see my backyard. Free security 24hrs.. ohyeah.. I just wonder if there's robber dumb enough to try break in any of the homes here.

Like u said, normally they won't allow anyone to swipe that big amount >30k coz they are charged for it. As for me, i'm so tempted coz I can get tons of points. hehe..

I will not pay the surcharge lo, and I think few wealthy people will flaunt their money like that. Bad karma u know. If one is really that rich, should donate the money to charity. We all ought to make this world a better place.

For fraud, can't rely entirely on the bank. I got called for a measly <100 bux internet transaction, even blocked my card for swiping at petrol stations 2x in one day... but they never called me for retail transactions when i buy stuff like notebook. sigh.... Their focus is just not on the right thing.
