yah, do that.

Also Miles, last few post in the previous version it was mentioned that Alliance and UOB no longer providing Insurance for Travel i.e. no benefit in charging your air tickets with these card. Also AMEX Gold CC no Insurance for Travel. It was suggested that this info be on the first post and I second it.

I would like to ask about how can i obtain or register a credit card as a student that has no income but will be working starting from next month.
I'm planning on getting a digi iphone plan based on installment and require a credit card to obtain this plan.
Will be using the i phone for working purposes and would be a vital matter to me if i was able to obtain it
...
Thanks =)

You need to have al least RM18K annual income (or RM1.5K/month)to qualify. And you need to be 21 years old.

Having said the above, if you are 21 years and above, and don't have steady income. you can deposit money into fixed deposit and pledge it for credit limit. And if you have RM200K better still, you can open a privilige banking account and they will issue you a credit card. Go talk to your bank.

my recommendation is worry about credit card after you finish school.

OT: if the iphone is vital for your work, then the company should issue a unit to you. my recommendation for your case is get a second hand 2G or 3G unit which is cheaper than 3GS and should be good enough for your work and you don't need a credit card to sign up for DiGi iphone Plan (no phone just call/data plan or prepaid).

Information for UOB Card members - lunch and dinner set for 2 at RM88++ and RM168++ respectively at Westin, Parkroyal, Nikko and Pavillion.

Click here to see UOB Dinning Offer in pdf format.

I took up the offer at Prego Westin Hotel KL last Friday. The UOB dinner set comes with beef for main course and I don't take beef. So if interested to go take up the offer, do call the restuarant to check what's on the menu. Click below to read about my dinner smile.gif

New cards offering by Maybank starting April - "Maybankard 2 Card", a combination of Maybankard 2 AMEX and Maybankard 2 Mastercard or Visa.
Probably the total value of Treat Point and cash rebate is higher than OCBC 5% cash rebate and not limited to certain merchant as OCBC 5% cash rebate.

Benefit:
1. Finance charge - 8.88% p.a.
2. 5x TP on AMEX or 1x TP on Mastercard/Visa anywhere.
3. 5% weekend cash rebate for ALL spending on AMEX. Cap at RM50.
4. Pay only 1 GST, lifetime annual fee waiver with no T&C, minimum annual income of RM30k, minimum payment of RM25.

Product Disclosure Sheet:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
This Maybank 2 cards is good especially the AMEX, even better than AMEX Gold CC. In is stated that 1 sign up, 1 statement and 1 Service TAX. 5X Treat points for anything is excellent but how about overseas coversion rate for the AMEX card i.e. 2.5%? It comes with Travel Insurance so it is good for air ticket pruchase as we get 5X points with any airlines.

However since it is Treat Points does not it mean we can't redeem like AMEX's 200MR points for RM1?

I wonder does Amex gold cc is replace by this card soon?
*
yah, no point getting the AMEX Gold CC with this new benefits - 5X Treatpoints for anything. Actually, no point having other cards (except OCBC Titanium) if merchant accept AMEX. But since not all accept AMEX, that;s why they give you Visa/MC for standby I guess. The single GST is excellent. Great thinking by MBB. With this Maybank 2 cards, next half of the year would make the credit card market more interesting.

Soon, OCBC Titanium and Maybank 2 Amex are the must have cards in your wallet.

My thoughts EXACTLY... if they offer cash credit wth TreatPoints. Then it's a BIG BIG PLUS.
Is the Maybank CEO in LYN ?
*
No lah, he and his ma chais are reading my blog, haha

I just called Maybank CS and asked two questions only:

1) Can the Maybank 2 Amex redeem points for cash like AMEX? Answer given no for the moment as this card give Treat Points and not Membership Reward Points.

2) Admin charge for oversesas transactions is similar to AMEX at 2.5% or MBB CC? Answer given is that it is subjected to 2.5% admin fees.

What is other CC you have swipe with?

If not CIMB or MBB then apply for either. Alliance BT got 0% for new card holders?

Yes, Alliance has got 0% BT. Not published, but indeed available.
*
I know Alliance got 0% BT, what I am asking is that is the offer open to new cardholders?

timetravelller: just to inform you, Alliance BT have exit fees of 5% of amount balance approved. Go apply the new Maybankard 2, better than Allaince in terms of reward points and cash back and you can do 12 months 0% BT too.

Already have a MBB Visa. Which gives 2x for overseas spending (the only perk Maybankard 2 is missing)
*
Yes, Maybankard Dua Visa/MC Plat do not get 2X overseas. Keeping my MBB Plat MC for overseas as Maybankard Dua Amex overseas fee still 2.5% But if on weekends, yah use the AMEX Dua overseas and still end up getting more in return then any other cards.

I called MBB marketing department and apply for the Maybankard 2 over the phone like I did last year for my Plat Mastercard. The only thing is if you want to apply by phone, you must be willing to spend money and follow up with the same marketing girl. I normally follow up with all my card application anyway to make sure the status. Easier to just download the form and fax over. Another thing is if you want to apply for supp card together, then go download the form and fax the form over.

To read about me applying for MBB card over the phone where I posted the number, click link to my blog:
http://creditcardsmalaysia.blogspot.com/20...-signature.html

Going to cancel my MBB Petronas Visa Plat and AMEX Gold CC, will have some work to do as need to go to DiGi and do autodebit to the new Maybankard 2 AMEX from AMEX Gold CC.

No need to care about that. They are willing to offer that to consumer so just enjoy it.

you are right on.

Don't know if you guys remember, when the GST was first announced a high ranking officer at MBB said they not waiving it and something like they want "quality" customers. Guess they learned their lesson when many good customer cancel their cards as Malaysians in general always look out for things that is value for money (in other words kedekut). They have started to waive the GST and now 2 cards for price on 1. I guess the 1 statement is a loop hole to go about this ruling.

I called CS and they told me that the Mastercard is not possible. Have to wait until April and they are only promoting Visa now.

Conversion from Ikhwan AMEX to the new AMEX also possible.

The "strategy" that they're employing is far more complicated.
*
Aiyah, you already paid for the Ikhwan GST, just get over it. The sooner you get the Maybankard Dua the sooner you will accumulate 5X points for anything and the Ikhwan don't give you cash back where as Maybankard Dua does.

I already applied for the MBB 2 and will cancel my AMEX Gold CC after all my autodebits are successfully transfered to the new card. As my Gold CC annual anniversary is in August, that gives me ample time.

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Jan 19 2011, 08:42 AM)
yeap, definitely remember that ...  and with their crap service, only way they can maintain their market share is by giving back more to their customers  rclxms.gif
*
come to think of it, less people with AMEX good for me as chances of getting 15% cash back or winning contest or qualifyinjg for offers higher smile.gif

yah, to those people saying AMEX not widely accepted stay away from AMEX please and don't join the bandwagon to getting more Treats Points so that MBB fair not so crowded, haha

I have Maybank Visa, Master & Amex. At first, I called to ask for GST waiver but received a no. So I redeemed all 3 GST with my points. Later on I thought no harm to write an email to request again, and this time I was given a GST points rebate for 1 card, termed "Retention Bonus" in my statement.

what can I say, you are smart notworthy.gif

You knew there is GST, but still don't want to cancel unused card. Now kena already.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jan 19 2011, 01:24 PM)
This isn't a dilemma. This is your own fault for not canceling a card that you have never used. Besides, the credit card tax came into effect January last year. You should have already had the same problem last January.

that robin flew into this section about a month back, initially thought he was smart where I assume he made a handsome profit from a property, but after his first post, when I read his subsequent posts/questions I would be like huh? Is this guy for real?

wonder if we can convert existing maybank cc and amex gold cc to these 2 cards without the need to apply and submit application again?

Just checked with CS. Can convert without the need to reapply. Just go to branch and submit the conversion form.

that's really good news. Conversion form. Too bad I already applied for the Maybankard Dua. David83, check this out.

QUOTE(afad @ Jan 19 2011, 11:54 PM)
how do they calculate the one time upfront interest?
it seems that a few bank with installment plan has this interest,
i dont know how it works hmm.gif
*
upfront = pay first

lets say you want to do RM6K installment plan for 12 months with 1.5% upfront so

Upfront payment = 1.5% x RM6000 = RM90

Installments 12 monhts = RM6000/12mth = RM500/mth

so your coming statement, you will need to pay Upfront fee + 1st month installment = RM90 + RM500 = RM590.

Second month no more interest as you have paid in the first month, therefore payment due is RM500 only.

Since only VISA is offered for Maybankard 2 now, any idea if i can get only the Maybankard 2 AMEX only for the time being and request them to send the MasterCard to me when it becomes available in April ? I do not want anymore VISA because i already have two VISA in my wallet now. I do have one MasterCard but i intend to cancel this card by next year which is why i want the Maybankard 2 MasterCard and not the VISA.
*
you very ma fan la, got customer like you headache lah I, hahaha

well, worst come to worst, get the visa now and then get the MC in April, cost you RM25 for GST only. Or maybe can use conversion form and convert from Visa to MC later (I learned something today MBB got such thing as conversion form). Anyway, once you get the answer do let us know.
