Let's wait until MWC 2011 in February, HTC and Samsung should be introducing some new phones by that time.

Really hope the rumor is true and Samsung, HTC should release some powerhouses to impress us!

Unless you're buying a phone for...benchmarking, I don't see the need for dual cores. Current phones are fast enough, and lately phones are having more of a.. renewed feature rather than an evolution.

SGS 2 will launch Q1 2011... was waiting for it but needed a phone so badly, in the end got myself a SGS. Very satisfy with it, don't think need to upgrade to SGS 2 so soon. laugh.gif

much of "does we need a dual core phone" question has been discussed before.

few of the biggest concern of dual core are the battery life and temperature issue like WiLeKiyO said.
my SGS @ full loaded also feel quite hot, 2 core should be double the hot if they are not taking good air flow/cooling solution into account.

this interview explains quite a lot about Tegra 2,
especially regarding the temperature and battery concern,
it is able to disable part of itself when under idle condition,
thus being more efficient in power consumption

Seriously, current phone at 1Ghz damn fast. Don't see a need for dual core. I would rather see more RAM....2GB RAM perhaps?? drool.gif

Unless coupled with a very powerful GPU, maybe a dual core will make some difference. I would rather see better cameras with xenon flash build into android phones....that would be perfect.

the thing is I am not concerning the idle state, I am more concern the full load state, like 3D gaming and long video shoot.

there is already a phone that is almost as capable as you describe, the Motorola Atrix
Tegra 2 in itself has already a pretty powerful GPU, and 1GB of RAM built in,
except the camera which is still only 5MP

QUOTE(anakrantau @ Jan 11 2011, 08:27 AM)

*
if you watch the video,
they are playing some Tegra 2 only games,
and after that they still comment on how it does not affect the temperature,
thus it shouldn't be too worrying,
though it might affect the battery life for long hour of intense usage,
let's just wait for the result then?

regarding battery life, don't know about other phone,
but the Atrix has a 1900mAh battery,
the battery life shouldn't be too bad.

err... IMO... if fully utilise the dual core might increase the heat and drain more battery...but if using dual core handle things that single core can handle... I dont think it will heat up and drain more than single core ... nod.gif

I think the cores are not used all the time, maybe when doing smaller tasks one of the core shuts down and one remains in use. Meaning the power is there but not in use unless needed to. Something like how we manage processor speed in SetCPU? tongue.gif

I dont think the question regarding dual cores is whether you need it or not, but rather would they (handset maker and mobile OS coder) make good software that utilise them at all.

I really hope that one day later I could draw simple dxf/dwg on my phone, email it to my office etc.

I don't think that is the final design of SGS2 but still it won't be too much different from that design.
Everything will be confirmed on MWC 2011, can't wait! drool.gif

I see the dual core - single core arguments still haven't end doh.gif
What I want to say is we do not need to judge whether we need dual core or not OR any issues of dual core like temp, battery life and etc
because we won't be getting the phones as early as overseas, so overseas consumers are probably gonna use them before us and give
us some reviews before we actually buy all those dual core phones.

Design wise, newer touch screen phone will look almost the same since there's not much that can be changed such as physical keypad (i.e. old nokia phone). Uniqueness nowadays comes in form of UI.

no they dont tongue.gif

the left got dedicated physical menu button, but the right sideone only got touch sensor button..
there has been rumor that future android device will only have one physical/sensor type button as all the menu button will go inside the UI.
personally I am more like physical button because it will reads less error than built-in into UI button..but for the looks it better without the button or at least one button for home/menu.

I see everybody poking fun of the reflection but I think it was intentional. You can't see anything useful anyway. The shape of the SGS2 has been leaked before and can be seen in another part of the video too.

Alright.....

the phone look like the US version of SGS ....

2x Better in processor power.... 0.3 inch wider with 3MP + Flash ...

Android 3.0

I dont see any significant reason to change froM SGS to SGS2 unless i got too much money to throw away....

I dont think theres a "WOW" or even a "MEH" feeling ..... maybe better GPS built... but overall can we realy feel the 2GHZ speed??? its not like theres many games or apps release for android that even need that kind of speed.

Thats how Android is..The leap slowly takes place so you may not see significant differences..Thats why, choose wisely and do research before you buy..Gadgets are never ending and never enough..If you know what you need, then you can save + cherish at the same time..I'm still sticking to my Nexus One..meh..

I'm still using a 500+Mhz HTC Hero, so this phone might be a good upgrade for me. I love SuperAMOLED. As long ad Samsung didn't screw up the lag and GPS again, it's either this or the Xperia Arc for me.

I doubt HTC will announce any really innovative phones. I guess they'll still be using SLCD/TFT.

Super AMOLED Plus seems interesting, since it gets rid of the PenTile matrix arrangement that handicaps the pixels of the old Super AMOLED. Meaning crisp text like it should have been for a 480x800 pixel display biggrin.gif

It's supposedly a dual-core 1GHz or faster. 1 core for foreground app, 1 core for background apps. So it is more efficient in that sense.

There were some rumors HTC is saving their big guns for MWC instead of the recent CES. Supposedly they have a 3D phone in hand. And LG too. Only time will tell if that is true...

this was with the SGS..
VERY cheap plastic..my nexus one looked a lot more solid and exclusive..
VERY poor filesystem..if I'm going to make an external ext2 partition to speed up my phone, why the heck would I buy a 16GB internal memory phone..
VERY poor Kies system..What made samsung think cloud backup was not the way to go?
VERY overpriced..Not worth the price its tagged for the product that you get..
no trackball..I can't explain how important the trackball is to me after using the N1 for a year now..
and the list just goes on..

still, you can have a phone case to cover the back cover
custom roms to make it perform as it should be
kies is useless. way to go for odin and cwm
for a trackball, i prefer blackberry

Some rumor from trusted source.
The specs would be:

* A 4.3″ or 4.5″ Super AMOLED Plus display
* 8MP rear camera with LED and 1.3MP front-facing camera
* Orion dual-core processor clocked at 1.0 or 1.2GHz
* Android 2.3 Gingerbread
* NFC Support
* Bluetooth 3.0

I really hope it will not be a 4.5", gonna be way too big, 4.3" is okay.
Hope they could throw in 3D display with 3D recording to catch up with LG.
Anyway, expect it to be freaking high price again.

Cheh....Apple use CPU design by ARM (Cortex series A8) and made by Samsung...the Apple A4 CPU is nothing more than a rebadged Samsung Hummingbird....like Proton rebadge Lancer as Inspira....

Hummingbird is currently used in Samsung Wave 1 and 2 and SGS. tongue.gif

Won't be suprised they'll use the same Samsung chip in SGS2 for iphone 5. Apple just made OS and software and outer shell design......they know nuts about hardware inside... tongue.gif

agree.
de main reason why i sold off the galaxy s was bcos of the horrible lag.
even though it is possible to install nolagfix, but seriously we paid a lot of money juz so dat we can improve it by ourselves?

Glad you are happy with it. Everyone has different needs

I am in same boat as Shah. I own both Nexus One and Galaxy S. Sold the SGS after less than a month ( after trying most of the available roms and a host of lag fixes ) - shortest period I have ever used a smartphone. On a score of 10 to NexusOne the SGS I rate only a 5 ; big disappointment to me. Only plus was its display and video options. Even my converted HD2 on Android is much better scoring a 8 to 9 ( depending on roms )

This phone looks pretty good, I would wait for HTC to announce theirs as well.
1 question to SGS users, do SGS android get updated fast in Malayisa? Because the Americans have so much hate on SGS because of the super late to no update.

Can't find any official announcement about the price yet....

If you wanna get aluminium casing like most HTC phones you're gonna get stuck with their lousy specs, the leaked Desire HD2 specs is just so far behind the current technology doh.gif... Samsung sure knows where to spend their money

1.2Ghz dual core sure don't look lousy to me =/
plus, its just leaked specs, nothing official yet, maybe wait for awhile more for the official spec before commenting on the specs.

The specs are confirmed. 1Ghz dual core with Samsung's own processor Exynos. Ohh and it has 1GB RAM.. price-wise shouldn't expect anything lower than RM2600..
Now just have to wait what HTC has in its sleeves to compete with SGS II. I must admit, this new baby does look amazing in every aspect. But then again, Samsung phones always look nice but sucks after ppl actually use it...

Hardware don't mean everything...I am using HTC Desire...love it...compare to my friends SGS...i still prefer the HTC despite the inferior hardware. The UI is better...So far my Desire doesn't lag...unlike the story i heard about the SGS lagging??

But one area HTC got to improve is the camera...it simply sucks. Somehow, i am not too excited about SGS2...dual core...doesn't mean anything to me...maybe good for gaming, but Android games really doesn't requires much hardware power except a few. Maybe in future SONY's Playstaton Suite will change this, but as of now, dual core is not a seller for me. I'll rather they fix some core isssues like a bigger partition for apps installation, better camera etc.

If the Desire HD2 can fix both the issue above, i am more interested....but i don't see how HTC can come up with a camera better than Samsung.... sad.gif

So far quite impressed with what I see. The SuperAMOLED+ screen and hardware specifications (dual-core, 1GB RAM) are what set it apart from other manufacturers. I doubt we'll see any other manufacturer, even HTC, top this phone.

If it had come with stock Gingerbread, it'd be the best phone hands down.

I wasn't comparing phone with camera, i'll say i'll rather buy a M 4/3 camera than the SGS 2 for RM3K. Which part you don't understand? Need English tuition??

And Good luck making photos that can compete with the quality of RM1K++ compact camera on your RM3K phone. tongue.gif I still can buy an M 4/3 camera & a cheap RM100 phone to make call with RM3K budget. tongue.gif

I think Jason's intention was to illustrate how pointless it is to compare the camera quality of a camera-phone to a real dedicated camera. You wouldn't compare a PC monitor with a smartphone screen either. You could buy a pretty decent laptop, camera or another gadget with RM3K but we're discussing smartphones. smile.gif

Hopefully the price will be closer to RM2.5K than RM3K when it launches. Even the iPhone 4 (16GB) version is only around RM2.5K. It'd be a hard sell for Samsung if they priced the SGSII even higher.

Yep....i don't see how Samsung can sell SGS2 for RM3K....a more realistic approach would be for SGS2 to launch as same price as SGS now, and SGS1 price dropped to lower. That should be the proper way.

not so sure about the GPU, nothing official about that, come with 2.3, 1 GB RAM, super amoled plus, 8 m.pixel with led flash, sure a bit plus compare to SGS.
I hope samsung change the filesystem to ext4, rfs really suck...

The specifications are available here.
It comes with Gingerbread, and uses a dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor with 1GB RAM.

Edit: Sorry, you asked for GPU. I don't think that's been revealed yet.

3k??? just dont try to play with their luck.
An upgrade only happens if consumers see the need for it with a justifiable price.

My bet?? 2.4k / it will replace the sgs price, the technology now is better compared to before.
its just a evolution.

3k and they really have to prove how bloody good is the dual cores compared to mini netbooks.

If samsung push their luck too far, Id rather go for a more advanced screen technology with the lg optimus 3d.

but then again, brand loyalty for customers

I think most of Samsung's widgets are useless. They're good for showing off but they make the homescreen lag (but not as badly as I've seen on the Arc) so even if I don't install another home launcher, I'll probably get rid of most of them.

The shape of it resembles an iPhone 4, but the screen is much bigger than the iPhone 4's.

They still didn't actually tell what brand of processor they using? Their own Exynos (renamed after the rumor Orion) or Tegra 2 or maybe others.
Even the official website didn't state: http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/specification.html

Too bad it doesn't have:
HDMI port
Physical camera button
Dual LED Flash

The touchwiz 4 with widgets actually make the phone laggy.

difference is that this year those kimchi added a plus behind and ia bigger price tag

I really dont understand, those hardware buildup is less then 300usd. why must they increase the price by 3-4 folds??
uncalled for, their research and development department does nothing, only thing they say is okay, this year we add a dual core "researched and developed by qualcomm" and renaming our orion bull,

worker no need to "eat"? company no need to gain profit?

small profits, not huge profits, and in this era, workers are slowly being replaced by machines, what else samsung who makes robots for ROK,

to be honest, you cannot deny that all the company now only thinks of huge profits, not for the benefits of future human race.

Samsung doesnt even need to make profit huge profits from their phone sales,

their real profits come from developing and taking on contracts for SK Defence system at the dmz

It has been mentioned for quite a while that the Orion/Exynos is using ARM Mali 400 quad core GPU... Though there's no official announcement about it yet...

Nvidia says Tegra 2 is about 5x faster in term of GPU performance than most other smartphones in the market but probably not the fastest SGS while it's claimed that Orion is also 5x faster than Hummingbird...

So Exynos will probably beat Tegra 2... Probably

And by the way, there's no point comparing the processor, they merely took the design from ARM and put it into their SoC.

And I heard somebody said there's no lag for HTC phones? It's so unbearable for me to look at my friend's Desire HD scrolling through his app page...

i notice from menu "1" to "2" it lags abit. the rest looks smooth to me. even techradar hands on review said this
QUOTE
The response time of the device is what got us the most excited, as the smoothness and flow of the screen was exquisite. If it sounds like we're going a little over the top, it's because that's the sensation we got when using it, and in today's crowded smartphone market it's nice to see something that's still wow-worthy.

Seriously I wonder how lag can DHD can be? Unbearable?

If u ask me what is unbearable, stock Galaxy S yes. but DHD?
I have tried many stock UI, I must say Sense is one of smooth/fastest available. Certainly not TouchWiz

Still the phone is pre production unit, not yet release by samsung, maybe they can optimised the firmware before release it to consumer?

My sgs maybe are not perfect when it release but samsung still manage to improve it performance at froyo. Well, i hope they learn from the mistake when release the variant of SGS, difficult to maintain and different carrier requirement only slow their update process, release just one phone and optimised it to top performance is what they should do, then consumer will buy it without any doubt smile.gif

I wonder how DocRambone get this spec. If this is true, then it is a great upgrade. Let's see if Sammy boys rectify the 3 major complains of SGS, namely lag, no flash (I see flash in the pic) and GPS problem.

haha, seriously it is that expensive? 3k for a phone... i guess waiting would be pointless since sgs itself is not even 1 year old, and already came the successor.. but then again, i think i'll wait until march..fuh.. 3k. unless the phone has the capabilities of flying/hovering.. i'm not going to buy a phone at that cost..lol

This phone feature quad core gpu which are claim 5 times faster than hummingbirds gpu, samsung really want to compete with nvidia this time :-)

Remember that the new psp feature quad hummingbirds which can run ps3 port flawlessly? This show how beast this phone gonne to be this year.

Overall, this phone really a big jump from SGS, the spec said it all but i still waiting how it perform at the real world :-D
orion>tegra2
Quad core hummingbirds gpu>tegra2 gpu

people here not happy with the response and smoothness. techradar says its exquisite. don't know man humans. how smooth they want a phone to go.
*

[/quote]

it's quite simple to the question
How smooth?

iPhone smooth PERIOD

so far, no android phone nor stock launchers can achieve the level of user experience that only apple seems to offer.
no matter how fast the processor, no matter how big the RAM, android phones are laggy.
even the best hardware Galaxy S which I had used was stuttering too many times even though nolagfix and darky/doc ROMS were installed.

windows phone 7 would seem to be closest to it that I had experienced first hand using Omnia 7.
have not tried webOS yet but it is also widely regarded as smooth.

Secondly here is more clear explanation of Super Amoled PLUS

not really.
difference in android phones is the shape, hardware features like camera, video capability, hardware keyboard, etc and software like HTC Sense, TouchWiz (iOS clone).

dats why the sales is quite huge.
so with all those choices, customer base is wider compared to single-spec iphone.

not really, to make things simple involves a lot of high technology.
it's just like making an executive summary out of a 100 page report.

design philosophy is different
iOS - simple, efficient, smooth, appealing, tries to use technology to follow human way.
android - complicated, customizable, less beautiful, less smooth, human must follow technology.

when S2 comes out, surely many S users will sell it at dirt-cheap price.
now is already abt 1.5 - 1.6k. Expected to drop to 1 - 1.2k.

since time difference is not too long, WAIT.

Expensive for us as we are thinking in RINGGIT. To the UK consumer it is not. Dollar for dollar their purchasing power is stronger based on same earning of an average guy

I paid RM 2888 for the HD2 ( SIS set ) when it was first launched; a year later price drop to RM 2000 and AP sets only RM 1500

Same for this Galaxy S 2 - I believe the Msian retail non-contract sets should be around at least RM 2599 to RM 2999 basing on Samsung pricing

No news and don't expect any - wait at least 2-3 months to see anything. But for such expensive phones, it'd be wiser and prudent to buy it under telco's plan unless you have just signed up and still has many more months OR MONEY IS NOT and NEVER a problem .

My Celcom postpaid contract ( 2 years ) expiring this month end Feb ; so will temporary use a prepaid . I will have more choices than

i believe the homescreen lag is because of the widgets..
some of the samsung widget(like daily briefing) make the homescreen lag

tempting to get this phone but i having bad experience with SGS so i duno wan to put another trust or not

i like Motorola Atrix too but it comes with motoblur, android 2.2 only, 5MP cam and not sure whether it is available in European verson..but i like 1GB DDR2 and HDMI port

Added on February 15, 2011, 1:18 pmand i would say dun take it so serious on the pricing(that not even officially announce yet?)..
most of the expansys handset quite exp compare to others(clove,handtec)..
so maybe just wait for others pricing out first

yup, tomorrow when more people know that new version of galaxy s is out they will just pushing the price lower.
luckily manage to sell the phone fast.
I am not going to rush on next phone upgrade.
my focus is the phone that offer best cameraphone quality which I am now aiming Xperia Pro, (still waiting for dual-core with Xenon flash android phone though)
then the most long-lasting operating hrs, Atrix.
other expects is the portability (slimmer, less weight),
last is the display, screen tech and size which I prefer 3.7", 4" is acceptable but still huge when laying inside my pocket.

This is the sad part, Apple Iphone 4 was considered as a fashion phone, not Samsung, You have to understand pricing strategy.
You would'nt pay as much in Miu Miu as you do in LV, even though they are in the same market.

Apple is a very well recognized brand with great support.
Samsung on the other hand has a long more way to go with their plastic toys they produce. especially with their lagfix and gps fix joke.

so far HTC doesn't has the complete package, there's always something lacking.

As an example, their DHD, it's a near perfect phone, except for its mediocre battery life. or maybe their Desire Z, comes with great potential but their Z-hinge is too fragile sad.gif

Samsung already add the special feature inside the galaxy s which support the hardware acceleration on the browser, maybe this phone come with it?

If true, this make the new SGS2 more special compare to other android phone line up.
Plus with 1gb RAM, sure the browsing really good. drool.gif

Hot stuff hot pricing. There is no reason to rush into this SGS2. After all, is not like the phone going anyway. With that specs, I think can at least last for a year before it obsolete. Plenty of time to save money and buy at ease..hehe

HTC is a big let down at this MWC announcement. Nice design on desire S or incredible S but 2010 specs. WTF

I really think and hope HTC is actually analyzing its competitors, and BAM, releases a 1.2 ghz dual core freaker with a 4.5incg qhd super amoled plus, i tell you, id pay 3k for that, because its worth it,

Look at Quallcomm, dunu whether they trying to f with us or what, phone havent reach market and already announced smth more powerful then my desktop... 2.5ghz quad core..... I seriously doubt it will be used in phones due to its battery capacity, tablets, hmm, most likely, take for example, the samsung tablet has a 6500 juice pack... i think thats more practical talking bout quad cores...

For who still wonder what gpu are this phone, it is actually mali-400
http://www.arm.com/products/multimedia/mal...tcookie=classic

There is benchmarks btwen the tegra 2 and mali400 but the score is not so good. The benchmark maybe are not optimised for 2.3 just like when testing quadrant on nexus s which keep crashing and remember that this phone still is the pre production unit and the software are still not finish yet. The mali400 also actually quad core and maybe the bennchmark does not take the advantage of extra core. Samsung claim it 5 times faster than current hummingbirds sgx540 so we can only judge it when it ready. smile.gif

I already saw the video from phonearena, you can check it at youtube, the browser is actually quite good. Don't know bout the streaming but pinch to zoom can be done smoothly although the page are still not finish loading. Panning around the page also smooth. i read from the anandtech said that samsung also implants the gpu acceleration for the ui especially in touchwiz by samsung. Hardware acceleration in internet plus gpu acceleration in it's ui, it's like the phone from our dream, hope this phone same as it hype. If samsung don’t want repeat the problem as the current sgs when it is release, they should optimise the gingerbread to it full potential before release it to customer. I admit that samsung have a really good hardware but it software really suck. Only xda members are our hope if samsung can't do it... smile.gif

SGS 2 has HDMI ports

You are right. Samsung Galaxy S has kind of HDMI port, but it's called as MHL.
If you visit this official press release from Samsung (http://www.samsungunpacked.com/press/press1_2_detail.html), you can see MHL on Connectivity section.

About MHL you can refer to wiki :

QUOTE
Mobile High-definition Link

The MHL™ (Mobile High-Definition Link) Consortium was formed to develop a new mobile audio/video interface standard for directly connecting mobile phones and other portable consumer electronics (CE) devices to high-definition televisions (HDTVs) and displays. The MHL standard features a single-cable with a low pin-count interface able to support up to 1080p high-definition (HD) video and digital audio while simultaneously providing power to the mobile device.
.
.
.
The MHL Consortium was announced by the companies of the Mobile High-definition Working Group on April 14, 2010. Nokia, Samsung, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba had been working on a specification since the Working Group announcement in September, 2009.
.
.
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-definition_Link

MHL make it possible to charge the phone while transmitting data, in this sense it's better than HDMI. In case there's no MHL-enabled HDTV(in other words, HDMI-only HDTV) , 'MHL to HDMI' converter is available.

got any link?
I think what they mean is tegra3 only available for tablet by august, means they start to making tegra3 tablet on august and the final products/tablets of tegra 3 may only be finalize/release next year. then another 2 or 3 months to get them into the market. If that timing right then we may expect to see the tegra3 devices selling in the street in about 1 year from now. Q2 2012 maybe.

Yeah...u don't need high requirement to stream...if decoding then it's different story. Streaming depends on how fast ur internet bandwidth. Not processing power

Furthermore the small screen not even 1920 x 1080...what's the point? 800 x 480 or so already looks damn sharp....anything higher is just a waste unless you got super bionic eyes.

thanks for the link.
but from this quote :
QUOTE
The "August timeframe" is when the quad-core Kal-El is expected to land in tablets

it said it will landed to tablets on August, it will only be mass produce start from August. production of the tablets and marketing strategies may drag it into Nov/Dec if the tablets manufacturer manage to hits FCC & production lines before holiday season. If they not then most likely they will just announce them at CES 2012 and released the tablets in the street Q2 2012..

I am one of these 70 %. Has never used the camcorder in all my smartphones - just use it once to test just for fun and assurance it works. Well for me , it is just " a nice to have but not really needed" feature. I am more concerned with the phone's WiFI/3g strength, GPS lockup, apps execution speed, and browser/email/tweets download

its not necessarily to playback from a camcorder, someone may just playback 1080p from its phone browser ie youtube/vimeo or any online fullHD content and plugged their phone to FullHD display.
yes, there may only 30% or less user that fully utilize those features but still there is a demand and might be a good selling point from manufacturer point of view.

if unlocked yes, but if its on three, you can forget about it, they lock their phones.
Unless you get some people to unlock your phone, mayb got ppl doing those services, but usually its the carrier whom sells out the code

Most people are complaining of the home screen lag. But home screen lag is normal because of Android limitations in rendering widgets and lack of hardware acceleration. Everything else should be fast.

His overall impression of the phone is good: "I like this phone without any "buts": in technical terms it is the best phone currently on the market. It is in fact the best Android Phone: the fastest, the best screen, the best connectivity – UMTS, HSUPA; Wi-Fi direct, VoIP, voice recognition different from what Google offers. There is no other manufacturer capable of producing anything quite like this level of technology in the near months."

the price really beh kenot la, even if telcos bring it in, we still have to pay alot in advance.

like digi, it might be 3k rrp.
but they will sell for 2.4k and add 500rm in advance.

thiu, 100rm i no need u subsidize la terrrr....

Really they should start learning from their western friends on how to do it right.

Why those westerners never complain??
il tell you why, 299$ with no advance payment, data plan and voice all 100usd, with a contract of 24 months

u see how they make them pay?? but still profit???

Cut the crap samsung, if its 2.7k il buy, if its 3k plus then u just lost a customer.

the problem with nowadays smart phone technology is this... they keep on producing much greater technology day by day... they really are expecting us to keep on buying new phone each year kah?

all and all, after a few "minutes" thinking, i just might go and buy SGS, rather than SGS2.. because of the price differences and all..

but then again..... mah eyez, itz bleeding.. i want SGS2... !!~

i'd rather wait, since the difference is huge between SGS and SGS2. in Apple's term, it's like comparing iPhone 4 and 3GS, not iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Apple users are rather less smart, they just buy, even if it costs 3k.

Android however, alittler smarter, noone is going to buy a 3k phone.

You know, if the SGS2 has Xenon flash, or something like that Xrmor technology (or something) for the SE Arc that supposedly allows the phone to take quality pictures in low-light conditions, then this phone would be almost perfect for me and I'll grab it, 3k or not.

If samsung use xenon flash, then they can't claim the thinnest phone in the world because xenon is bulky (remember n8, satio)

I don't mind iPhone 4. I think it's a pretty good phone. Fast browser, simple GUI and lots of applications. But I still prefer Android overall because I like USB file transfer and writing my own apps without having to pay RM99 for a provisioning profile.

friend. ETA is 1-2 week march, leaves april for us. still 1st quarter.

anyway, its going to be march soon.

guys, I want to know, if ,IF phone comes out and it costs 3.3k, you all going to buy?? or just stare at it, and wait for sgs 3??

I hell know Id rather buy a Xoom then this for 3.3k.

All things has its price limit, they are reaching into the Laptops territory, in which they are obviously no match for laptops. Look at the mac air 11", it can do what all tablets do, but better, and its portable and solid build.

Look at most of the time you use a tablet, u sitting down?? or you standing while walking with people around you??

SGS actually first launched at Singapore, then UK. i rmb Malaysia was quite early to get it, even before US.

This is because US have their own version of SGS

Not necessary as depends on user. I sold off my ipad and replace it with the MBA 11" mainly because it can do much more and better than the ipad and the form factor is compact and as portable as the ipad. If one get ipad2 plus keyboard it is than no different than a MBA 11"

Not necessary as depends on user. I sold off my ipad and replace it with the MBA 11" mainly because it can do much more and better than the ipad and the form factor is compact and as portable as the ipad. If one get ipad2 plus keyboard it is than no different than a MBA 11"
*
ok noted your point, but still I prefer iPad2 (not iPad) over any other apple devices including MBA..
for computer work I prefer Full Desktop pc or normal laptop for portability. which mean I prefer Win7 over iOS. smile.gif

The Galaxy SL does not have a camera flash according to GSMArena's website. The Cortex-A8 CPU is also not as good as the original Galaxy S's Hummingbird and the SL uses a S-LCD screen.

On the bright side it does come with Froyo installed and a larger capacity battery.

If you look at the official specs page for the new Galaxy S II you will notice that both the Super AMOLED Plus screen and Exynos processor are region-dependable. That means we could get a phone with a different screen and a different SoC inside.

I think 'May not be applicable in some regions' is only applicable to Orion processor, and the asterisk on 4.3" WVGA SUPER AMOLED Plus just means 'Display: "4.27" in actual measurement'. If there's any plan to adopt SLCD display instead of Super Amoled Plus, they will make another model and will not give it a name of Samsung Galaxy S2. For example Wave I and Wave II have the almost same spec, except that Wave I has 3.3' Super Amoled and Wave II 3.7' Super Clear LCD, and it's known that it's because of the shortage of Super Amoled.

Hopefully that's the way it is. I don't mind a Tegra dual-core processor. It's quite good also and won't make much of a difference. However no SuperAMOLED would be a real killjoy.

quite right you are there, the only reason why this phone is in my buying list is because no other phone makers will ever have a super amoled plus 4.27 inches screen, not even htc.
a major selling point to keep fighting against other phones later this year.

but the powerVR sgx540 in SGS is only clocked to 200mhz while the one in optimus 3d is also sgx540 is clocked to 300+-Mhz.. 90mil triangile is the full max score that 540 can do but for the case in SGS, it does not and goes to around 57fps only..

Samsung claimed everything based on technical but it is not practiced and goes well in real life ... SGX540 should be able to go up to 80FPS maybe if its full performed but not for the case in SGS.. Same thing bout Exynos, MALI in exynos is maxed out to 120mil triangle but in the real situation, ULV GeForce in Tegra2 beats Exynos in some benchmark.. but still, optimus 3D beats all three with SGX540 which is SGS is using almost a year ago..

Added on February 17, 2011, 4:03 pmSamsung was butthurt seeing all this so it decided to go for Tegra2 and also to compensate low stock of Exynos..

samsung will try hard to make SGS2 sells more compared to SGS or even to be on par with it.. to meet up with demand, they might gonna release two versions of it.. the non SAMOLEDplus would still be selling hotcakes despite what.. some people would just buy and sellers would hide some crucial fasts about the phone to sell those phones..

Just look at expansys Singapore. They already have price for SGS2 16gb and Optimus 3D. Can estimate price in Malaysia already.

expansys makes money from selling to us some phones, minus about 100-200 sing dollars, that will be our retail price.

Secondly, tablets are priced at 800usd, thats about 2500rm.

Do you really think this phone will sell at 3.1k ringgit?? even so, that will be the 32gb version.

Samsung tries to justify its price tag, but we as consumers will justify whether we should hand over the money to these crooks.

2.7k yes, 3k also yes, but thats hell notes im offering to them.

very true. This phone isnt justifying its 3k estimated price tag for the time being.

But then again, they are running low on stock for the amoled and their exynos.

Id still get the sgs2, dont care either one processor, but the screen, if they change, then seriously??? 3k???? haha, no thanks, im sure they will have no trouble to find another buyer who isnt a smart consumer.
il wait for HTC then.

Guys, anyone here owns both the blackberry and the SGS? i own a bb and i am so used with their push notifications and the ease of opening an app straight away right after getting a new notification. Is the notification system on the SGS equally good, for people who have used both the SGS and bb?
Because, to me notifications are very important and i want a phone with a good notification system and i want to open apps like fb, twitter, whatsapp, etc with ease once i get a new notification.

Because, if the android os on the SGS2 can do all these with ease, i will definitely get one smile.gif

im guessing that it wont be as good as both of those, but still qualcomm chips have been stable so far.. as it is an intergrated SOC, everything is stable even for wifi and GPS.. only some simple software fixes is needed incase its problematic for certain phone model.. thats the advantage of snapdragons

orion are expected to go 120mil triangle p/s - but who knows what samsung did as it loses to SGX540 in benchmarking of the optimus 3D
sgx540 in optimus 3d (300mhz in optimus 3D with updated drivers, the previous in SGS is 200mhz with older driver) is 90mil triangle p/s
ulv geforce in tegra2 is around 85-90mil triangle p/s
adreno220 is 80mil triangle p/s

it now depends on how phone manufacturers make the phone work out to be well.. a powerful hardware needs a great software to make it a good daily driver... adreno series are always a step back but even SE goes for Adreno205 and promises 70fps in their games (adreno205 is somehow around 45mil triangle p/s)

Samsung officially announced that Exynos 4210(or Orion) was scheduled for production next month (March).

The new naming system will be first applied to the dual core processor codenamed Orion, which was announced in September 2010. Carrying the name Exynos 4210, Samsung's powerful 1GHz dual-core applicationprocessor is scheduled for production next month.

And Galaxy S2 will be released as early as April in Korea, in accordiance with the global launching, according to this korean news (http://news.mt.co.kr/mtview.php?no=2011021507424676571). So chances are that it could be released on April globally if it proceeds on schedule.

its a relieve to know that we know its very close unofficial price.
but 2 things i want to mention again, is this 32 gb or 16 gb model,
secondly, is this VAT included?? I pray to god so... that way we can minus 17% off from 550 pounds, about 93 pounds?? that brings us to a 456-7??
and il be godlike happy if its a 32 gb model, that way, even cheaper for 16gb mayb to a total of 420?? thats like 2k ringgit lol.
ok im dreaming too much, sleep...

let me make a guess(based on my experience with SGS from UK)
most of the prices listed in UK are included with VAT
assuming the case same with SGS, UK online store such as expansys/clove/handtec/etc will list out the lower capacity model which is 16GB first..
32Gb mostly for carriers like Maxis, etc

jsut my 2 cents

I don't think VAT is included - add in 17 % the price is £642 which is very close to UK Expansys price of 16GB model at £649.99

http://www.expansys.com/samsung-i9100-gala...ii-16gb-209114/

Which is close/similar to expansys Spore pricing the 16GB model at s$1325

http://www.expansys.com.sg/samsung-i9100-g...ii-16gb-209114/

The previous SGS already retails officially RM 2599 to 2699 - don't think this newerr model can be cheaper , possibly minimal similar pricing as current SGS

I believe should be VAT inclusive, expansys are notoriously well known for jacking up pre-order price before they are confirmed. For example www.clove.co.uk listed it as £440.00
£528.00 inc. VAT. Now this is more believable isn't it? £650 is just overly ridiculous. And trust me, clove price is very accurate as i have personally bought from them before smile.gif

true indeed.. eventhought it was the powerVR SGX540 in SGS is clocked lower, it still goes hardcore.. im guessing that cortex A8 cant utilize max clock of SGX540.. that might be the reason why the dual cortex A9 with dual memory in Optimus 3D is able to sorta max out the ultimate power of SGX540.. even iPhone5 is rumored to be using either 540 or 545(which is sorta a slightly enhanced version of 540 but still a lot similarities)..

In terms of CPU n GPU processing, every SOCS have their own abilities.. Samsung is not losing anything from using Tegra2.. users will have a wider option to choose which SOC they wish for.. but the abilities of Tegra2 and Exynos(orion) are quite similar in a way.. both win in different benchmarks resulting sorta a tie overall.. Snapdragons are late, they r not that bad but they are playing catching up with the others while other manufacturers will go forward a step ahead compared to qualcomm

SGS2 VS Optimus 3D and Optimus 2X = three different SOCs which will be very interesting.. both will pawn each other but im guessing the overall score would be a tie between these three.. Optimus 2X might be losing a point since it aint got no extra attractions while Optimus3D has dualmemory n 3D cam n SGS2 has the super amoled plus

Is it worth to buy this phone? Tegra 3 phone come at the end of this year, make me think twice, 5 times performance is a big step, even better than core 2 duo 2Ghz, maybe use my SGS until samsung announced SGS3 with quad core hmm.gif

had experience with clove and i would say don worry about it...go for insured courier(dhl/fedex) instead of airmail..

anyway, better place an order after the phone released rather than pre-order(as the price might change)

honestly, if anyone can help a fellow member here, I will be happy,
mayb anyone staying in KL can help out those here to get it cheaper.

I dont mind paying like 500rm deposit for the phone, I NEED IT. LOL.

AND IM REALLY GETTING CONFUSED. Reputable Engadget says its coming this month...

"It'll be on the market in parts of Europe and Asia as soon as this month; no word on North America, but as always, there's little doubt Samsung has some plans in the works. Follow the break for our quick video and the full press release."

SOS here : http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/samsung...per-amoled-plu/

Maybe you're right. If Malaysia confirm available on march, then no need place order. If June, then just wait the phone released and only place order. nod.gif
