Common Kelvin White Balance Settings :
2500K - very strong orange tungsten light
2800K - strong orange tungsten light
3200K - yellowish tungsten light
4500K M6 - flourescent light (most flourescent tubes are green even though our eyes don't see it)
5500K - flash
6500K - daylight (or daylight-balanced flourescent light)
9900K - strong blue stage lighting or evening light

Xenon lighting is rare but that should be between 7000-9000K.

Whenever you enter a new situation that has different WB, just set your Kelvin WB again and test with one shot. You

should be able to do this with practice.

With the Sony A300 and A350, you can use Live View and see the effect of changing Kelvin WB... live!

M = Magenta
G = Green
2500K = Blue
9900K = Amber

Take a picture. Supposing the picture is very Green, you need to add the opposite which is Magenta. If the picture is

too Blue you need to go closer to Amber. So if the picture is very blue-green-ish, you will need to go closer to 9900K

M9.

To prevent the built-in flash from appearing in pictures when in wireless flash mode, you can use any of these

methods, or a combination of them:

- use a darker aperture (e.g. F11)
- use a lower ISO (e.g. ISO100)
- use a shutter speed faster than your flash sync speed so that High Speed Sync is activated (e.g. 1/320th of a

second)
- use a piece of exposed, developed negative film in front of your pop-up flash

I think the can delete the NEX user list since there's a NEX dedicated thread now..

Anyways, does anyone read Air Gear Manga??? Haha, surprisingly a NEX-VG10 was used inside! Even writes E-Mount on it..

Hey guys, I've just started my interest in photography having owned a few PNS cameras before this. I bought a black Sony NEX-3A (with 16mm f2.8 lens) last Wednesday in good faith as I thought the shop has a good reputation among locals here. To my dismay when I returned home, and as I was looking at the box, I found a sticker which states "demo body + flash". I thought nothing serious about that until I used the camera for the first time today and when I transferred the photos to the computer, I noticed that the first photo numbering is 5883, and not 0001 unlike other new cameras which I owned before this.

Does that mean that the shutter count has reached 5883, and that 5882 photos were taken before my usage? And it's not a "completely whole new camera"? And if so, I wonder if I could lodge a complaint against the place and consider returning the camera and obtain a full refund if I could? I'm a noob in photography, hence would appreciate all advices given by you guys. Many thanks in advance!

come to think of it... 18-70 will not be in any future production... does that mean the 1870 will be limited edition now? (since the production life is only 2/3 years) and it would be the best cheapest and great range kitlens ever from sony?

i think you should go back to the shop to clarify this... if all else fails, then you can lodge a complain to the 'jabatan/lembaga pengguna' or something.. provided you paid the full price for it, and not a highly discounted price

Thanks lwliam! =) I called the shop owner just now (lol I know it's a weird time but he gave me his hp and asked me to contact him if there's anything) so I thought it's better I called him once I discovered this. He even had the courage to ask why I had this thought that it's not a brand new camera and when I told him about the shutter count thingy, he said his staff may have made a mistake and asked me to return to his shop tomorrow to change. I hope he's wiling to change. >.< And yes, I paid the full price of it without a single discount!

first of all, WELCOME TO THE ALPHANATICS CRAZE-NESS..
now, i think that u should take some pics of the items side by side with the receipt..
and show the part where the serial number of the camera body is (usually at the bottom of the camera body)
and side-by-side with the warranty card/receipt..

if IT IS a mistake then sure they have to change it for you, but of the taukey cincong2 talk bu11shit then, lodge a complaint to the jabatan Hal Ehwal Pengguna.. biar itu kedai kena serbu ha ha ha icon_rolleyes.gif

*
last time also got someone report about this.. is it ur using the old card which maybe continue the numbering from it?
don't the box sealed or something?

Not so. It's totally not virgin.
Better return back to the shop and snap some pics before hand as evidence.

I think the can delete the NEX user list since there's a NEX dedicated thread now..

Anyways, does anyone read Air Gear Manga??? Haha, surprisingly a NEX-VG10 was used inside! Even writes E-Mount on it..

what's your ISO and shutter speed? under bright sunlight, if ISO and shutter speed is still unable to let u maintain your large aperture, then there's nothing u can do in camera, the next step is to get an ND filter..
*
I guess it has nothing wrong with ISO and shutter speed. I set my camera for Auto Exposure. So it should select correct shutter speed/ISO for me. If I use 1/2000 f2.8 and 1/1000 f4.0 at ISO 200, both should produce the same brightness of photos but it is not. Hmm...

do u go out much with ur camera? --> of course, haha.... then a bag is essential.

how to put in the bag? ---> depends what you're gonna put inside the bag (amount of lenses/bodies/accessories).

i think most people just leave 1 lens attached to the body at all times.

its not really 'healthy' for ur camera body if u keep attaching and removing the lense(s) from it..
just stick the lens in it.. and put it with the lens pointing front/left/right.. not pointing downwards/backwards.. pointing up is okay also i guess

Hi tplus1, welcome to the Orange Legion! rclxms.gif

Basic camera bags will allow you to carry 1 dslr with a lens attached, trust me, 18-70mm kit is not that long. Normally I just put my camera inside a normal backpack with its lens attaced and bring it around but I guess a proper camera bag is essential as they have paddings which protect your camera even if the bag suffers from a fall. You can have a look at brands such as Bagman, Crumpler, lowpro to name a few or you could opt for "brandless" camera bags. tongue.gif

woah ipad... haha...surely will get more lenses sooner rather than later... haha.

choosing a bag really depends on what you're gonna bring out. Lets say u NEED to bring ur laptop/ipad together with ur camera then u definitely need one with a laptop compartment.

a cheaper alternative to the 5MDH or rather 7MDH is the Bagman Sling Bag (large). or you can try the Driftwood Series which is really cheap but offers really good padding IMO.

with your 'gear' just being the kitlens with the body, Id suggest something smaller (maybe to fit a body + lens, 1 more lens and a flash)... Crumpler's 5MDH would be a great choice for a more casual look. Lowepro gives a more professional look IMO. this is of course provided you have the budget...

a crumpler can cost up to as much as rm300-500 depending on model, but the bagman (same size as 7MDH) cost only rm165. so the amount of money you are willing to spend on a bag also plays a part in choosing a bag.

lol. of course it can fit the ipad bro but theres no dedicated sleeve/compartment for an ipad (means u just chuck it in)...
but the current driftwood bag that im using has a zip'ed compartment which i think would fit an ipad.
search for 'driftwood' in garage sale "photography accessories" section.

I have one question : Do you guys mind the UWA distortion in shots like no. 10 and 8? How much can you take or do you prefer straight pictures?

*edit : fixed pic*

if straight not like UWA i guess.. same like other lens with longer distance..
but sometimes the effect does increase the perspective.. and show some mode in that place..

The more correct the distortion will make some space disappear but it makes object like tall building looks better IMO ...

no regret except for these 2 things at the moment:
1) i should have gone for nex5. nex3 no wireless remote or port for remote cable so it's hard to play with bulb mode for long exposure.
2) i missed wireless flash. come on sony, come out with with wireless trigger for nex dy!!

if you mean by 3rd party lenses ie. tamron, sigma, tokina etc. then they're in some ways cheaper because of their materials used are sometimes inferior to the manufacturer's brand's own lenses. in some(many) cases, lens coating is a major factor ie. Zeiss T* coating and Nikkor nano crystal coating. they're one of the best in the field. 3rd party have yet to come close. then it could be due to the fact that 3rd party lenses only offer in screw drive AF when manufacturers have SSM built in.

Yes. You need the camera RAW plugin. I dunno what version of the file you need to get for CS2. You should download the latest one for CS2 and see if that works. If it don't then it means you need to upgrade your photoshop to later versions to get a camera RAW plugin that supports your cam.

The real question is why you wanna trade your A700 for an A55 or A580? Isn't better to wait for the A700 replacement? Sure it has better features than the A55 and A580. You've already waited so long what's another few months? blink.gif

and since u got big ass lens like the sigma 70-200~ better go for a580 + VG lar~ a55 too small for that~ a55 is even too small for the f58am lor~ sweat.gif

but why trading in ur a700 for a580? not like much money u can save? and i still love my a700~ lol~ even its dinosaur~ tongue.gif

in fact~ my frens on d90 and a550 oso prefer to hold my a700~ blush.gif

just my 2 cents~ tongue.gif

Cause now I urgently need money ma. ): And IQ for either a55 or a580 also much better than a700 dy wei. ):

In terms of what? High ISO? The A700's IQ is not at all shabby in comparison. So the newer models tend to be cleaner at higher ISOs but have you compared by doing RAW conversions for A700 and A55/A580? What about dynamic range and colours?

Don't get caught up with the high ISO hype. It's good to have clean high ISO images but I'll rather have a broader dynamic range and colours plus the handling of the A700.

I give the A55/A580 a passing yawn. The A55 is a breakthrough but I'm really waiting for the A700 replacement to see what the real deal is.

My suggestion : sell your gears now and recoup your money but wait for the A700 replacement before you buy anything.

RM2300 for a55 with 18-55 kit lens, free 8gb memory card and bag. Is it cheap ?
Actually not that attractive, it is just cheaper, but now not attractive anymore coz got problem. T_T

A580 would be better, as Gouki said. a55 cant mount big lens and F58 properly without looking damn weird XD
But if you can hold it, wait for A77.

guys, A700 does show its age already although its still a great camera today. A580 has few points might surpass it. not everyone "needs" the controls of A700, else there wont be so many ppl from A700 jump down to a NEX right? wink.gif be cool

*i find that i can hold (stable) a Nex with 70200G(adapter) then with A700+vg+70200G. so small doesnt mean bad tongue.gif

he only use those 2 lens on those 2 bodies. for cleaning, i think i remember he wrote that he just blow. then just use the camera. don't really care about the dust. say if he took 3000 photos that day, usually after another 3000 photos, the dust eventually disappear. lol. so by shooting more photos (and flipping the mirror more often), u eventually clean the dust from your mirror faster. laugh.gif

edit;

QUOTE
I use a can of compressed air to blow off the loose dust from the lens, and a soft cloth on the front element; for the sensor, I did what you're really not supposed to do: compressed air, very gingerly. (Do not do this: it could leave a residue and make it very, very hard to clean). Otherwise, I don't do anything at all and it "cleans itself" through hard use. I find that in about 3,000 pictures all signs of Burning Man's dust is gone (about the same number I take at the event itself).

2) i missed wireless flash. come on sony, come out with with wireless trigger for nex dy!!

waaa tested the a580 justnow at curve, quite alot functions ....... but seems like jsut functions addition compared to my a550

anyway love the new 25600 iso( or something like that) - they call it multi exposure

the pic output very nice in pitch black, but its abit "noisy" can hear the shutter like taking maybe 10 shots or something ...and hte processing is uber slow...

tried 5 times to sweep panaroma, all 5 failed...keep saying i am too fast......

then move slower la tongue.gif

the multi exposure as it say, take multiple exposures and combine them into one image, to negate off the noise coming from the sensor.

tplus1: No need to separate them.

Why do you need to carry both an iPad and laptop at the same time?

wingster: The shallow DOF kills the realism of #4 and #5.

shootkk: Probably a bit too late to say this, but look at the geometry and compose accordingly. #1 in symmetry would've been perfect. Likewise for #4. #9 is almost there.

I don't mind the perspective distortion in #8 but I'd prefer you not crop the bottom corners when framing the shot, then. #10 would've been loads better shot level.

freaky_deity: Nice expression!

cjlai: Hmmm odd, I'd think he'd put the 16-35mm on A850 and 24-70mm on A700.

gjtan: Did you give it time to recharge?

jerrylyh: #4 is overdone. Try looking for more clear shots like #2 - see it's just a circle and clouds around it.

lwliam: Nice!

tplus1: No need to separate them.

Try looking for more clear shots like #2 - see it's just a circle and clouds around it.

lwliam: Nice!

ok..will try to improve myself..for #4 is it that i've pushed to much on the details?how bout #1 and #4..is it suitable for HDR edit?

it could also be your metering mode, dun jump conclusion to flash that fast. If your were on spot metering, it could be the cause, as there are bright highlights on the subject.

Added on November 16, 2010, 12:57 pmthen again, 5 seconds could be not enough time for the flash to fully charge if the initial flash was at full power.. Judging from your range, 80mm and still able to capture full body height, you should be standin quite far away, so your pop up should be firing full power anyway..

Added on November 16, 2010, 12:58 pmif this problem persists due to distance, increase your ISO to 'extend' the range of your flash..

mastering89 : The 35mm lens is a DT lens for APS-C only while the 85mm lens is a full frame lens.

SAM is the cheap version of SSM where the lens in driven by a motor inside the lens itself rather than being driven by the screw on the camera body.

Thus SAM and SSM means in-lens motor. Just that SSM is the expensive stuff.

i think you should go back to the shop to clarify this... if all else fails, then you can lodge a complain to the 'jabatan/lembaga pengguna' or something.. provided you paid the full price for it, and not a highly discounted price
*
Did you purchase it from sony dealer? I purchased my NEX5 c/w 1855, but to my surprise, the settings are all set and the lens had finger prints on it. So I called them up complaining that I suspected that my unit is a used unit. And guess what, the replaced the whole unit. Guess you just have to insist.

sorry newbie.. i plan to get a55, is it ok to use it with SAL18-250 or SAL18-200 lens? why I ask because both lens does not have SAM, unlike the kit SAL18-55 SAM & SAL55-200 SAM. Both kit lens have SAM. What's the drawback for not using SAM or SSM lens?. Thanks.

e-jump: Nice~ One question... do you shoot wide open for all your shots? Pretty sharp.

rikiraikonnen: The 18-250 and 18-200 won't work well in video mode. You will have very noisy auto focus when shooting video in comparison to SAM / SSM lenses.

Im playing safe with F2-3.2 as its very crowded and need to snap fast.
if wide open later focus recompose face also bokeh edi =__="
if i were given ample time to snap, i would love to do 1.4/1.7 smile.gif

shootkk: For #4 if you framed it so the song lyrics were right behind a receptionist, while they are talking to customers, that would be cool.

And LOL #7 looks like Genting!

shukrie: Supposedly in the next 2 weeks or so. Nice candid, though could use space to the right.

jerrylyh: Nope, just stop over-doing HDR.

gjtan: Could be metering also; the camera is fooled by shiny objects in the picture. Did you accidentally press the AEL button?

mastering89: There are no Sony SSM lenses which are APS-C. However there are Sigma HSM lenses which are EX DC, and Sony NEX E-mount lenses with full-time manual focus override.

There is a bit more small-radius unsharp mask going on with Dave Hill's pictures.

Newbieeeeee: I like how you have the concept of framing the waterfall with trees and leaves like in #1 and #2 - though you could find a better, more 'packed' frame.

#3 could be just a bit more aligned to the corners. #5 has an interesting half-lit, half-shadow theme but not executed well. #8 is totally out... looks like a hit and run shot.

I like how #9 is just rocks and trees but there is something not quite there where framing is.

Generally, I really like how your eye looks at these things, but you'd still need to shoot more. Explore the geometry and put those shapes into your pictures.

noprob: #2 a bit barrel distorted - try getting it smack in the middle? Otherwise nice effort!

ahpingko: Nice, I've always found it a problem to take a picture of this particular flower properly.

Thank you guys. Will try to improve next time blush.gif

More E-Mount stuff coming up.

I had a feeling that sooner or later, Sony will abandon the A-Mount system and fully concentrate on the E-Mount system. Of course A-Mount lens user can still use their lenses on E-Mount with the LA-EA1 adapter. Possibly once E-Mount lenses are more established, A-Mount lenses will stop production. Perhaps by then future Alpha bodies are E-Mount based? Hmm... Chrome SLR, sounds cool biggrin.gif

I have one question. Anyone knows why this happens - See the Wynn logo on the top left corner? It seems to be running. My cam was on a tripod. SS off and every shot I had of this casino with that logo will show that the logo is kinda 'running'. Why is this so?

5. Across the street from Wynn's - guess what? More casinos!

zstan : If it's ghosting then it should be the same in every shot right? But that's not the case. In some shots it runs more. Some shots it runs less. And yes I do have a filter on but the filter stays on for all the shots.

zstan: Could be better if you could frame it tightly on either the densely-lit area or the dark area.

#1 is a bit overexposed; #3 could use more zoom; #4 could be reframed so the branches touch the frame's corners; #6 could be framed so it's only the shadows and sky.

e-jump: Could use burst mode to get the moment after the guy walks out of the background.

noprob: Niiice!

shukrie: Hmmm could be framed better.

wha7ever: The ad looks strangely fake - it locks into place in the reverse direction!

cjlai: Aiyah that one is a mock somebody else made. I wish they would stop using fan-made mocks to describe future models - people get confused!

shootkk: The logo running could be flare.

Ghosting appears on the diagonal opposite of the logo.

Thanks. I usually set my A850 to vivid and up my sharpness settings to +3 (I do this for all my settings as it uses a CMOS sensor that's usually less sharp than my A100 which uses a CCD! Haha).

During PP I normally adjust a bit of levels and curves and sometimes tweak the brightness a bit.

For my Macau shots, I shot in RAW and edited in Sony's IDC 3.2 - tweaked some shots with DRO and adjusted the curves only for most. I usually up the saturation about 10% from default when editing in IDC.

No extra sharpening for any of my Macau shots! I just love the sharpness provided by the Minolta 20mm f2.8 lens! rclxms.gif

albnok : Flare! Why didn't I think of that? Must be the fact it's a night shot! hahaha! How easy for use to just link flare with sun and not any other light source. Yes. The 20mm does seem to be prone to flares and I guess having a filter did not help matters!

ahpingko : +3 sharpness is permanently dialed into my A850. +1 contrast in some settings and that's all.

8tvt : I have a filter so that I can chuck the lens cap away in my bag and carry the lens around and not worry. They do sometimes prove to be a nuisance with flares and ghosting but until it really gets on my nerves, I just leave them on.

Side question, the Contrast AF Detect for Alpha 580 (not phase detect) in Focus Check Live View mode. Does it works with Sigma HSM? For what I know it works with SAM / SSM but didn't mentioned anything relates to Sigma HSM or Tamron USD.

I am thinking to replace my SAL18250 with a Sigma, maybe the 18-250 OS HSM or the 17-70 f/2.8 - f/4 OS HSM, but the 17-70 would make my KM 17-35 redundant.

if you really want HSM then get the sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM la.

no point buying another same lens of the same grade IMO.

You mean same grade as SAL18250? Of course that lens will be sold off.

And if happen to go for 17-70, of course the 17-35 will go off in sales thread.

I don't see any good review on the 17-50 f/2.8 just yet.

hmmm..so your main favour now is the HSM or constant f2.8?

do note that 17-70 is not full frame but 17-35 is IINM.

Hi, everyone, fresher for this thread.

Got A33 1 week ago with 18-250mm lens. My 1st SLR

Sharing:
Though of Tamron 18-200 or sony 18-250 before, yet go through some review condemn a lot on Tamron (sorry for Tamron fans, but this is wat I read),things like slow AF, suck dust etc.

Tested on this 2 lens at the shop, photo shooting hard to see the diff. Yet for movie continuous focus, Tamron took 4-5 sec to focus whereas sony lens 2.5 sec. Hence sony is my choice although tamron offer an attractive price.

cons
sweep panaroma function setting is fixed by sony, apperture, shutter speed, iso can't touch.
short battery life

others - up to my expectation.

Question:
Thinking of 50mm f1.4 or 50mm f1.8? Use mainly for boker.

Pls advise, thk.

will you be looking forwards to full frame in the future? if yes, then 50mm 1.4, if not the 1.8 will be a cheap and cheerful lens which will last u quite a while... that small amount of aperture difference will not make THAT much of a difference anyway...

welcome to the club ^^ rclxms.gif

*
welcome to the club. biggrin.gif if you got the cash then go for 50mm f1.4 la..can save for future use in case you wan upgrade to full frame. if not f1.8 does the job pretty well.

hmmm..so your main favour now is the HSM or constant f2.8?

do note that 17-70 is not full frame but 17-35 is IINM.
*
I'm not bothered with constant F/2.8. If I ever need bright aperture lenses, I would just stick with prime lens.

I just want to replace SAL18250. The focus ring build for this lens is not suitable for video and needed more range than 17-35. HSM is just a bonus, and of course I favor it more than SAM lenses. The Sigma 18-250 seems to be a good option, but heck... I think I would get a telephoto prime lens first.

convertors are not really a solution to macro (its called close up filter) or wide angle convertors, they degrade image quality and causes a lot of fringing and blurring. if you have the 150 to burn, then go ahead with it and see how it works out for you. else, save up another 100 or so to get the Raynox 250... that will give better results.

macro filter is just 1 glass cheating its way to macro.

adapter, depends, some cheap one are 1 lenses, but good ones has more then 1 glass, eg: raynox has 3 glass inside, hence it has much better result and IQ.

raynox is highly recommended for budget close up/macro shooter smile.gif

Welcome to the club. Invest in 2nd battery or 3rd even. In general f1.4 offers better bokeh than f1.8. If you can afford, go for f1.4 as it's also compatible with Full Frame DSLR (or DSLT). tongue.gif

with the basic 1855 lens? should be okay i guess...

if you're planning to get a filter, just get a capalang one la.. ahhaha if youre not so particular about the filter... but if u are, then get the Zeiss filter... whistling.gif

PS: Filters SHOULD NOT cost you above rm100 UNLESS if they are Zeiss, B+W, Hoya Pro 1D (correct arh?haha)... coz alot of new buyers get conned by the shop with crazy filter prices.

I have one question. Anyone knows why this happens - See the Wynn logo on the top left corner? It seems to be running. My cam was on a tripod. SS off and every shot I had of this casino with that logo will show that the logo is kinda 'running'. Why is this so?

I guess it was the mist caused by the fountain hmm.gif

lwliam : Coma? I don't think so. I think most probably it's a little flare made worse by the UV filter. I was shooting the scene at f8 so I think any coma that can happen should have been gone after stopping down so much.

Anyway, here's a little story behind the shot. As I was framing my shot and waiting for the fountain to start, along comes a Chinese (meaning from China proper) lady and asks to look at my cam.

So I stepped back and she peered through the viewfinder and said, "Wah! Jiang je kan dao hen ching chu or!" Or translated - "Wah! Like this can see clearly!"

She is very nice looking and the fact that she peered through the viewfinder without any prompting means that she knows a thing or two about cameras. If not for the fact that she was hanging off the arms of another guy, I would have made my move! .............. Or not! LOL!!!!

wha7ever: As far as I know, Sigma HSM/Tamron USD should work with the A580 in Focus Check Live View mode, in Contrast Detect AF.

Bear in mind that wider, brighter lenses are faster in Contrast Detect - the Zeiss 24mm F2.0 SSM should be loads faster.

Though, whether it is HSM or not does not matter for video with the A580 since it's all manual focus anyway. Only thing you wanna avoid is the noisy 50mm F1.8 DT SAM, which has a grindy sound even in manual focus (according to bryanlyt.)

ahpingko: Don't be butthurt, okay only lah his pictures. biggrin.gif

lawt2845: Yes the Sony 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DT is geared 1.7x faster than the Tamron 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DiII.

wingster: Nice, any confrontation/fight shots?

8tvt: The A560 isn't out until 2011.

mikeshashimi : Nah! Bokeh is comparable and generally both of them do not have especially good bokeh. Sharpness also comparable.

Most people have the misconception that the larger the aperture, the better the bokeh. This is not true. Larger apertures makes it EASIER for you to get bokeh. It DOES NOT guarantee good bokeh.

generally FF lens cost 2-3 times more than APS-C. rclxub.gif with exception of some minolta FF lens which are relatively cheaper.

old chinese saying: haven see ghost, dunno what is 'fear'

my friend 75-300 last week report to me got fungus, what he did is left the lens about 6 month inside another spare bag. 6 month only.

the issue is when u need to store (or forgotten) a lens for a long time... fungus grow really fast when the "requirement" is right.

the biggest problem is when the temperature in the place you store your lens changes. like say, in an aircond room... when u switch the aircond off, temperature will go up and there will be some moist/vapour... and it usually occur on glass surface like windows... or more precisely, your lenses.

ehem, the fact, as long as its not blowing direct from the aircond, the room is much "drier" then u expect(even its in low(cold) temp)... moist built up only Sudden Change in temp. i doubt ur aircond room will turn into an oven in 2 minute rite? the windows had this "condense" effect due to 'outside' is hot, cooling hot air outside from the inside, causing condense of water vapor. so, as long ur gear stays in the cold 'dry' room, its pretty much safer then 'wet hot' room.

its a longggg explanation to fully understand the whole idea. as long as its not sudden cold to hot, the lens is pretty much "dry" smile.gif

Actually it can. Not necessarily aircond room. Can be shopping malls. When u go outside, its cold to hot. Condensation will occur. Places like cold storage or something.

haha, i did said that, as long its not sudden change in temp... condensation dont happen. so its actually 'dry' not wet. smile.gif

aside putting object right infront of the aircond blowing, that air is 'extreme' cold, and meet with normal room temp which is much higher (but still cold) condensation still happens, hence u get wet object when place directly infront of aircond.

woob, all sifu, what is the best size to resize for blogging/tumblr?

thx! appreciate ur help!

and! what is the main difference between alpha series and NEX series? (besides the size)
*
NEX is still Alpha... icon_rolleyes.gif

but to answer ur question....

Alphas are DSLR and DSLT (a33,a55) and NEX are EVIL systems (except VG10 of course).
NEX uses E-mount and Alpha uses A-mount.
And i think the other points are self explanatory.

A55/A33 is also like NEX, but using A-mount only lol. A55 damn small if compared to A580 >"> But both fits my hands ironically. laugh.gif

Too bad, A580 is priced 200 bucks more than A55 >"> Lol.

lwliam: Nice #1 and #2!

The Minolta X700 uses a Minolta SR MC/MD mount, not the same as the Sony Alpha/Minolta AF mount.

shootkk: Would be better if you picked either half of the night view to show.

chiahau: The Alpha 500/550/560/580's 7 FPS is fake/cheat. It lock the first image exposure and the rest 6 shots follow the same exposure settings (it locks AF too).

I'm not sure about the Alpha 55 though, but from spec sheets it says continuous is 6 frame burst. I think A55 can reach 10 frame would be similar in locking settings except the Phase Detect AF. Need someone who owns the SLT to confirm this, I could be wrong.

zstan: Aiya... was waiting for it to release (A850/A900 new firmware) then go straight to FF but I got fed up waiting already.

e-jump : try search for ArcSoft Panorama Maker 5 , very easy to stitch photo with that. but cant do much editing sad.gif
the best thing is can even stitch panorama from videos brows.gif

wha7ever : the a33/a55 is continuous AF on the 7/10fps burst mode( can change to AF-S also) . limited functions , cant change the ISO/Aperture/Shutter. only metering , EV, WB ,etc... my a33 can go till 12frames jpegs then already slows down (using 8GB HG Pro Duo MS), havent tried with RAW/ Jpeg+Raw, the a55 is said to have more buffer thingy nod.gif

but one thing bugs me, when in the 7fps mode i can go up to 12frames. but in normal Hi burst can up to 4-5frames only... is the 7fps mode uses lower quality images/compresses more?? hmm.gif

wha7ever: the word 'cheat' is a little harsh tongue.gif it did mention 7fps priority, meaning it will put all energy into the speed tongue.gif and yea, it lock out the AE/AF, due to hardware limitation.

however, the fps issue. there are 2 type of burst (socalled) of Alpha. the normal burst mode, which u can 'tweak PASM' and fulltime working AE/AF, another one is the priority burst mode, which locks out AE/AF(on A33/55 its on the mode dail, so not sure if u can use it like AP mode)

the 6fps is the normal HiBurst mode of A55. which u can use it on PASM, unlike the priority mode of 10fps. smile.gif

chiahau: stop being a gearhead, knowning all the spec(or comparing it), getting all the ting tong stuff wont make u any better in photography.
i know how budget affect ur buying. let put all spec aside... but judge by this 1 key point

are u going to get serious in photography? (as in go event shooting, gigs, perhaps join weddings).

if Yea, get a A580, u'll be thankful of that u will have grip option and F58 mounted still get well balanced weight. (and single longer life battery). bigger grip help relax ur hold after a 2-3 hours non stop shooting.

if No, just get A55 and play around and enjoy it, having a smaller camera, make traveling or going out with friends 'lighter' and passing to girls to play is easy too (small ma)... battery issue? the diff of rm200 to A580 can buy u 3 unit of 3rd party batt that can altogether shoot twice as much then A580. shooting video clip with friends is also much more fun... and u still can use it to cover light event/functions.

have fun

to be honest... how many of us really use the 3/5/7/10FPS function? i know some of use do, but how many? I rarely see and sport photographers here... or any birding photos... but even then, do they pan or do they burst is another question... or maybe both... tongue.gif

I have never used the burst mode on my a700... nor on my previous a100.

I rarely use the burst mode. I think I can count the number of times I used burst mode using my fingers all these while and still have fingers to spare! I find that anticipating the moment to be much more useful than bursting.

Of course there are some occasions that need higher fps but not for me.

One funny incident is when I was shooting during a PC Fair and here comes one fella with a Canon 1D series, if I'm not mistaken, to shoot the models we were shooting. You know what, he fired the cam like a machine gun. The model/promoter gal was just standing there! He did this not once but 3 times! I wondered if he was there to shoot models/promoter gals or just to show off! LMAO!! Blatant abuse of the burst capabilities.

Anyways, here's a video... do you think you need that kind of burst rate? Just for laugh biggrin.gif

zstan: Nice moment! Love the dude's expression.

wha7ever: Don't know why you all expecting the A850/A900 firmware. It is not going to come, so do not make your buying decisions based on rumors!

I hope nobody is thinking "hmmm I want to buy A850 but wait for firmware first." There is already Lightroom 3.2/ACR 6.2/DxO 6.5 which makes fantastic noise reduction happen on ISO3200/ISO6400. If you need full-frame, there is no point waiting.

The A55 has continuous Phase Detect AF in 10 FPS mode.

mastering89: On the contrary, the A33 can shoot more frames in 7 FPS (obviously since it has more time to clear the buffer.)

shootkk: Whoa that is a mega pano!

albnok: LOL! We know it's just rumors, but people still excited to read about it. Even with new firmware, there is still hardware limitations to how much a camera can do. It's not good to wait, as the wait never ends. New technology keeps coming out all the time and I needed a cam that does video, hence I opted the A580 instead.

gjtan: You screw that part wrongly. You should turn it to the opposite direction, the circle part should be far away from the grip. When you hold the camera, the circle part should be at the bottom most, not in between your fingers (when using vertical grip)!

Yuhi - a55 + Tamron SP90 + F58 with Octopus diffuser. Extremely hard to focus since this guy keep moving and "close-up" all the legs which covered most of the body parts.

Need to gently poke to let it pose...

Blue fang is one of the most beautiful Tarantula which has unique metallic blue fang.
