QUOTE(lwliam @ Nov 14 2010, 12:35 AM) i think you should go back to the shop to clarify this... if all else fails, then you can lodge a complain to the 'jabatan/lembaga pengguna' or something.. provided you paid the full price for it, and not a highly discounted price Did you purchase it from sony dealer? I purchased my NEX5 c/w 1855, but to my surprise, the settings are all set and the lens had finger prints on it. So I called them up complaining that I suspected that my unit is a used unit. And guess what, the replaced the whole unit. Guess you just have to insist.

QUOTE(nevermine @ Dec 7 2010, 11:08 AM) hi mastering89, thanks for the info . hmm so i think i will just buy the F1.8 since it is much more cheaper than the F1.4, and F1.8 is ady better than my kit lense If you really have the budget or if you could save up a bit, go all the way to Sony's 50mm f/1.4. Search around and you might find someone selling their unit. It is highly recommended.

QUOTE(Mspot @ Dec 7 2010, 12:06 PM) Hi, everyone! Just plunged into the world of DSLR with A33y and hoping to learns lots from this forum here! Such a vast difference from pns! While I'm happy with the 55-200mm, but the 18-55 seems a tad too grainy in darker places. I'm considering the prime SAL 50mmF1.8 and the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8. Will the tamron perform as well as the SAL for portrait w/o flash? I kinda dislike flash. If so, i should forget about getting the SAL? I have a friend who uses Tamron 1750 2.8. He highly recommended it as it shoot wide and potrait. Unlike the limitation of 50mm where you have a fixed length, 1750 lets you adjust a little. Plus the 2.8 aperture really helps in low light condition. I doubt anyone would use higher aperture than 2.8 in sony 50mm f/1.8. I had this 50mm f/1.8 before and it's always been on aperture 2.8 as it produces better sharpness. Later on, I sold that and bought 50mm 1/4 and the center sharpness is excellent, even at aperture 2. Whenever I need to use flash, my f58 comes into picture and I'll ditch the 50mm in favour of my 18250.
