![]() Supporting 3D already QUOTE One card, six displays The Radeon HD 6000 family of cards will also be the first to support DisplayPort 1.2 which allows up to three monitors to be hooked up to a single port. As the cards come with two DisplayPorts, they will be able to output images to six displays at a max resolution of 2,560 x 1,600-pixels. It will also be possible to drive the monitors at completely different resolutions for the best gaming experience, said Skinner. AMD is a little slow to the 3D stereoscopic gaming but that is only because it didn't want to go the proprietary route like its rival nVidia which currently only supports its own 3D vision hardware, Skinner claimed. Although the company already had limited 3D support for some of its older graphics cards, its new approach in software and hardware will allow users to pick their own components for their 3D gaming and movie rig. For the hardware part, AMD will support a number of 3D glasses such as shutter glasses as well as passive displays that don't require glasses at all. In terms of software, the new Radeon HD 6000 series graphics cards will work with popular 3D conversion applications such as those from DDD and iZ3D. Currently, over 400 titles are supported by the stereo 3D conversion software from the two companies. |

QUOTE(Demonic Wrath @ Nov 2 2010, 01:16 PM) It's simply because HD6870 and HD6850 is using the same exact chip, albeit different BIOS. The OC'abilty of the chip is the same. Both can reach ~930MHz, but since HD6870 is already clocked at 900MHz, the gain is not that much. To distinguish HD6850 and HD6870, they purposely clock the HD6850 at 775MHz. It's purely a marketing decision -- to release 2 SKUs to counter GTX460's 2 SKUs. tqtq, useful explanation AMD could've released HD6850 at 900MHz SKU, but chooses not to, as it will kill HD6870. Just as NVIDIA, they could easily release 800MHz GTX460, but that will kill off GTX465 and GTX470. |

dis is yielding.
in chip world, every chip has @ least 1 "younger brother". it is to improve yield. the "younger brother" chip is basically cripple version of the original chip. simply put it dis way, 6870 has 1120 sp, 6850 has 960. wen ati order this chip from TSMC, impossible TSMC can produce 100% perfect chip. those perfect chip will b made into 6870, while those wit som leakage, or problem, the problematic sp will b disabled & made i into 6850. only those chip which has <960 working sp will b thrown away. like dis, less chip is wasted. |

Jagged lines across the screen? It may be a symptom of overheating. Download HW-Monitor by CPU-ID and monitor the temperatures of your HD6870 |

it's a win for consumer too.
coz if there is no such practice, yielding would b much lower, hence cost of chip will b higher & v consumer has to pay more. just hav to identify which is good & bad 1. in the case of Cypress, 5850 is good, but 5830 is just totally rubbish. & speaking of sapphire, dey r redying their own OC s/w named TriXXX |

Overclockable to 99% of 6870's performance. at RM600, 6850 is a real bargain |

QUOTE(sparrowed @ Nov 2 2010, 09:56 PM) http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-radeon-6850-review/19 yeah.. when you are lucky you will get good 6850 then can OC as close to 6870 series... base on luck, no body will knows unless you have their chip test data from their test result.. Overclockable to 99% of 6870's performance. at RM600, 6850 is a real bargain |

QUOTE(ahbenchai @ Nov 2 2010, 11:30 PM) nobody really knows yet but it should be sub RM1500 for a HD6950,HD6970 should be around the current price of a GTX480disclaimer: i made up these figures, and i don't have any source for it.Still logically thinking it shouldn't be far off This post has been edited by Racerx: Nov 3 2010, 01:15 AM |

QUOTE(chenhui87 @ Nov 3 2010, 01:09 AM) If 6950 is the price of 5850 which is RM999. Then what is the 5870 price? Don't tell me it will dropped almost RM300 straight to RM800+?If AMD really intend to have full range products and utilize each of them. 6950 should be placed btw RM1.2k ~ RM1.4k whereas the 6970 should be placed like 480 price. ( Or even lower ), which is around RM1600~ RM1800. From the AMD chart list, we know that 6970 and 6950 performance should be lower than 5970. Whereas the only card that can beat 5970 is 6990. And Nvidia 480 will be sandwiched btw 6950 and 6970, they want to seal off the entire 480 market totally. Next week Nvidia will release 580. ( As I expected since last month cause I dont think Nvidia will be stupid enough to give away Christmas market to AMD again |
