but most higher end amd cards are like dis oso, less oc headroom

to me, better get that 6850, can reach 6870 performance.
no point in buying 6870 with such a small headroom for oc.
its not that 6870 is bad, you can oc and still get more performance from it,
but 6850 simply better price to performance ratio

It's simply because HD6870 and HD6850 is using the same exact chip, albeit different BIOS. The OC'abilty of the chip is the same. Both can reach ~930MHz, but since HD6870 is already clocked at 900MHz, the gain is not that much. To distinguish HD6850 and HD6870, they purposely clock the HD6850 at 775MHz. It's purely a marketing decision -- to release 2 SKUs to counter GTX460's 2 SKUs.

AMD could've released HD6850 at 900MHz SKU, but chooses not to, as it will kill HD6870. Just as NVIDIA, they could easily release 800MHz GTX460, but that will kill off GTX465 and GTX470.

Currently, Radeon HD6800-Series CrossFireX Scaling is the BEST.
Radeon HD6900-Series are not as good as Radeon HD6800-Series.

Based on reviews,
2x Radeon HD6870 CFX is on par with 2x GeForce GTX580 SLi.
This is due to GeForce GTX580 have very poor SLi Scaling.

well, mostly d complain is on d driver rather than on d card itself. i noticed that everytime AMD comes out with a new card, surely d driver will be immature. juz like 5xxx series last year, it takes a few mth to get over all the driver bug for new series n i guess it happen again with 6xxx series
and new driver version doesnt mean is always the best, sometimes sticking to a older driver version will be better.

try using other driver version

Try 10.10e n if still CTD ur LP 2, might other thing caused it. n u might wanna try to install DirectX again.

try to uninstall it and this time do a custom installation change all the directory to custom for example folder name make it LP2 ~
if it is installation problem it will fix most the time~ maybe ur installation something wrong ~
the worst case is cd problem
