Added on tongue.gif tongue.gif Some personal recommendation by astria for 14" laptops

QUOTE(astria @ time unknown)
Gaming : 1) Asus N43Jq/Asus A42Ja, 2) Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG, 3)Acer Aspire 4741G

- Best GPU u can find for a 14", so it's down to personal preference of brands and warranty. By Gaming I dun mean playing at highest settings on the latest blockbuster games, rather, laptops in this category allows u to play at higher detail than others, expect mid-high in most cases. The list has been totally revamped thanks to GeForce 400M series. You can't go wrong with either of these.

CULV : 1) Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG, 2) Asus U45Jc/U43Jc

- "4820TG again?" u may ask. yes, 8hrs of battery life on vanilla Core i is juz unbeatable, couple with a decent GPU, it's an obvious choice.

Value : 1) Fujitsu LH520, 2) Lenovo G465/Compaq CQ42-205AU, 3) Acer Aspire 4551/Asus A42F

- LH520 top the list for a simple reason, having dedicated graphic card @ rm1.5k, no others can match that. G465 and CQ42 are tied as both have CPU at the same clock speed, both are decent choice, but pick CQ42 if u are concerned abt battery life.

Work : 1) Asus X42Jr/Dell Studio 14, 2) Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG

- this is for those who are looking for a machine to do work like Photoshop, but still prefer 14", without breaking their wallet. X42Jr and Studio 14 come with quad core, no question on performance. TimelineX 4820TG (again!) is in the list as well as it's a light machine with great battery life, ideal for those who needs to move around often.
budget RM 3k , read this..

Acer 4820TG [i5 460M + HD5650+Intel GMA HD] , RM 2599 - better battery life , nice graphic
Asus A42JV [i5 450M + GT 335] , RM 2499 -  has 2 yrs international warranty
Acer 4741G [i5 460M + GT420] , RM 2599 - nice graphic , one of the choice too

QUOTE(kae7 @ time unknown)
Asus A42Ja , i7 740QM + HD5730 - RM 3399 , nice graphic , i7 quad processor
Asus N43JQ/N53JQ , i7 740QM + GT425 - RM 3999 , better graphic  , i7 quad processor , 3.0 USB
Dell SXPS 16 , i7 740QM + HD5730 - RM 3999 , its FullHD resolution , sleek design laptop
Dell SXPS 16 , i5 460M + HD5730 - RM 3702 , its FullHD resolution , sleek design laptop
Sony Vaio EA36 , i5 560M + HD5650 - RM 3499 ,  high clock dual processor , it is VAIO ! ,  various color to choose..

i readily second wat kae7 had said...my fren's acer had been running on 5 years...6-7 hrs per day..daily...and its still fine...b'cos his are from the older acer generation, there is some heating problem, BUT is easily settled with a RM 10.00 cooler pad..

the new ones DEFNITELY and more reliable and have less likelihood of heating problem.. smile.gif

sometime.. overheat isnt because of the processor itself.. it is caused by laptop itself.. if the cooling system isnt good.. and you play intensive games.. then... it will overheat..

1. Brand - Any
2. Budget - 2-3k
3. Specs - I need it for designing purposes and gaming. Must not be laggy.
4. Size - 15".

Looking for a stylish design labtop. Best if it's light enough for me to carry around cause i will be carrying it around almost 24/7 when i'm out.

Thinking of Macbook Pro but its somehow pricey seeing the specs is not really good.

15 inch = heavy. 3kg, i dno if its heavy for you.

wat is light enough? 14 inch is 2.4kg 13 inch is 1.8kg.

unless u r willing to pay more, etc. MBP, HP envy 15, vaio Z, adamo. which are shooting away from your budget.

so if u want light, then u need to sacrifice screensize.

designing purpose and gaming, how to define? mind sharing the games and software you are using? they can vary alot.

stylish = vaio or mbp? only low spec vaios at rm3k price tag...which will not suffice ur usage.

Hmm, it better be 14 or 15" cause i don't want the sreen to be too small. My defination of light is it should be portable enough because alot of my friends bought their labtop and just leave it at home because it's too heavy to carry around. That would be no point of getting a labtop for me since i already have a good desktop.

Only medium gaming not professional or heavy gaming. Softwares like photoshop, illustrator and stuff. The max i can afford is MBP 13-inch, 2.4GHz. I don't really fancy VAIO :/.

Thanks for your recommendation i will research more. wink.gif

What do you guys think about Acer 4820TG?

yes, his recommendation is for you, the best spec 15 incher under your budget.

MBP 13 is using old tech, dun buy it, it works like a rm2k laptop only.

i think, u might want to go and test and feel what size you want. as the weight differs quite alot although the screensize just 1 size smaller. 2.4kg to 3kg is not little.

timelineX 4820 suites u very well. actually it suites everyone. long battery life, exclusive finishing, best GPU under rm3k i think, for 14 inchers. you should really go for it. its the best selling cake in lowyat now. but its 14 inch la.

1. Brand: ASUS
2. Budget: Less than 3600rm
3. Specs: i5/i7
4. 14"/15" (15" is better smile.gif)

Major use for general computing, watch movie and some photo editing and games like The sims 3 or Left 4 dead.
Well, in my consideration right now are ASUS N82Jq/Asus A42Ja/Asus A42JV

FullHD means the screen resolution is 1920x1080..
while most notebook is 1366x768...
yes, nonHD video will be played in FullHD as well, just that its upscaled and will not be as good as FullHD movies...

Ic. I will check it out then. Btw, i have 3 questions here
1. the battery for N53Jq can last how long? will it have problem like N82?? which the battery can last around 2 hours?
2. A52Jc have weak GPU? issit means will have lag during playing games such as the sims 3/L4D?
3. Nvidia GT425M is better than ATi HD5730 rite?

1. Should be similar with N82 since its using Quad core and dedicated GPU...
2. Well, L4D should be fine, but others model mentioned is much much better,...
3.For now, HD5730 > GT425M, though GT425M has the potential to be better than HD5730...

Issit possible that GT425M will be better than HD5730 after driver update?

Yes, can, no problem...
Just for comparison, SXPS 16 would give bigger workspace since it has higher resolution....

Now i've come to one conclusion, to choose between Acer 4820TG and SXPS 16. Anyone can tell the pros and cons?

Weight - 4820TG
Price - 4820TG
Gaming Performance - 4820TG, since SXPS 16 has higher resolution, lower performance and HD5730 is just OC'ed HD5650, 4820TG can achieve the same with a bit of OC...
Battery Life - 4820TG
Multimedia usage - SXPS 16
Warranty - Dell got onsite...

meaning 4820 have more winning factors? actually i'm not really using it for heavy gaming just minor gaming but more of the time i will do photo editing, movies, and surfing.

thinking dell sxps would be good cause it comes with HD. hmm.gif

ya.......sxps wins in the screen.

but other than that...........you gotta really consider the battery life advantage, 2.5h compared to 8h? moreover 4820 offers more horsepower and lighter also!

8h is on idle la =p, if u stress photoshop, i think 3h+ compared to xps below 2h.

Well, 4820TG is also HD but not Full HD which one of SXPS features...like lee_what said, overall 4820TG sure is better than SXPS but then again, if you are concern about the resolution (as in you dun game much and more on multimedia works), a FHD would be nice, can get a bigger work space (view).

But do take note that 4820TG battery life is way better than SXPS, if you are the type to go out often with your laptop then maybe it would be a nicer choice but then again, if you stick the laptop where power outlet is always available then should be no problem nod.gif

So, conclusion :

Want overall performance = Acer 4820TG
Full HD and good warranty service = Dell SXPS 16 (bigger reso and screen also)

Asus A42Jv, if you want the warrenty,
Acer 4820TG is you want the battery life and slightly better gaming performance with the 5650 (i think that version release in malaysia already) I dun like the island keyboard on the acer tho =\

They just rename HD4670 to HD565v for easier marketing since people won't want HD4xxx nowadays tongue.gif

default is local,
international warranty need to upgrade warranty to 3 years..

For now, if still can find, Asus A42Jv, i5 450M + nVidia GT335M, should be around RM2.3-2.5K...
or Acer 4820TG, i5 460M + ATi HD5650@RM2599...

I'm looking for a laptop for my friend.
Budget around RM2,500.
Preferably in the range of 14"

Usage:
Using the net
Games ( the SIMS and occasional Team Fortress 2)
Music
TV series/movies
mobility would be great

She was looking at MacBook Pro, but I told her she could get a good laptop for a cheaper price.
oh ya. she's a girl, so a laptop that isn't that 'guyish' would be good.

Well, he want something balance or more powerful with much shorter battery life?
There's SXPS 16 for 15.6''
Asus A42Jv, Acer 4820TG, Lenovo Y460 for 14''
excluding the other i7 model...

or will he use/learn Mac OSX?

Done some research on the 4820TG. Competitor with the Asus A42Jv eyh?
I myself own the A42Jv. Just wanna ask, what are the pros and cons you know off for the 4820TG?
I might've missed something during my research.

Didn't follow much on 4820TG, so far know that i3 version 4820TG throttle at around 90C, but the i5 don't...
battery life can reach 6 hours with power saver mode, but only almost 3 hours if watching 720p..

Hmm, I've read complains on the keyboard. In the long term, dust trapped inside the keyboard may spoil it?
Cos my friend has Acer now, and well, it's not treating her well.

In terms of GC. Is it better than A42Jv GTX 335M (if not mistaken)

Well, you could use keyboard protector if really concern about it, or just sometimes use some vacuum to clean the dust...

ATi HD5650 is slightly better, but generally they are on the same level performance..

Nope, I mean 3820TG, the 13'' version tongue.gif

The problem with 4741G is for now, the performance of GT420M is below HD5650/GT335M, but from its spec wise, it got the potential to be better than those two,
Speculation for now is due to immature driver for GT420M, but later it will be true or not, depends you believe or not laugh.gif

I'm not sure why Acer priced both 4741G and 4820TG at RM2599, 4820TG is better in everyway when compared to 4741G, unless the person is a Nvidia fan, who would buy the 4741G? doh.gif

Hmm, if I'm not mistaken. 4820TG is around RM2,500 right?

Do you think it will last a few years? Cos she'll be going to Melbourne, it would suck if suddenly the laptop break down.

the hype is on its promising battery life over normal laptops. 3820 is more expensive because its smaller but having the same performance as a 14 incher. 1 inch extra really make big difference in performance tolerance. the bigger the chasis, the easier it is to field strong spec.

i think its because the nvidea chip is more expensive, consider the technology they put in the chip. the chip is expensive and shud be more powerful to justify its price, unfortunately the result came out is not on par as its spec yet.

3820 does have smaller chasis, but the exclusion of an ODD makes space to 'field strong spec'.

Even if the Nvidia chip is more expensive, the 4820TG has a larger capacity battery, extra USB port, brushed metal lid, slimmer design, which I think should be more than enough to offset the 'more expensive' Nvidia chip.

@moo_zai if you want backlit keyboard... then only got SXPS... unless you don't mind getting Alienware M11x...

M11x is small, but the GC can handle games fine... (slightly better in a way than sxps since the sxps is using a FullHD screen... playing games on that reso stress gpu la)

Hi all,

need help here, need to have opinions and recommendations:

1. brand - no specific brands (but good to have international warranty)
2. budget - plus minus 3k
3. specs - 15" plus screen (no mobility necessity), 2/4gb ddr3, 500/640gb hd, gpu (prefer 1gb for heavy graphics gaming/ graphics - need to kill a lot of time), good speakers (heavy movie watcher too)
4. size - preferably 15"

I will start working on a ship/vessel and not much activities can be done except playing games and watching movies. will be on a 3 months rotational and sometimes it can bore u to death.

thanks in advance

People recommend the 4820TG based on its merits. Stop defaming Acer, when you got nothing to back up your claim that Acer as whole is unrealiable. doh.gif

Using photoshop I assumed? The extra ram on Toshiba would be a positive though ram is easily upgradeable, but it still add to the cost...
While bigger screen is better for those tasks...

I have a question regarding laptop i want to buy, now im considering between a few brands with similar specs so i want to compare the warranty.
Asus-Their 2 years international warranty is carry in or on site, im actually based in east malaysia so does anyone have experience claiming warranty here?

acer-i wanna know is on site or carry in too, and how many years warranty, and how much does it cost to extend 3 years?

compaq-just sold off mine, they use to have next day onsite and extended to 3 years care pack onsite from rm 250, is it still the same now?

lenovo-i couldn't find any info, mind to share and also warranty claiming in east malaysia

dell- yes i know they do onsite, do they have east malaysia on site or have to send to pg. and how much extend to 3 years onsite

Anyone got any suggestions for a sub RM1.5k (lower the better) notebook? My friend needs one for studies, web surfing and some light gaming.

Expecting something around the Fujitsu LH520 caliber if possible.

i5 540M and i5 460M basically almost the same except 540M has higher TurboBoost and some extra instruction,

The Y460 i5 540M not really value for it anymore, better get Asus A42ja...

Not really, she wants to play tf2 and the sims.
But she doesn't like a laggy computer, it irritates her.
So basically, she wants a rig that will last her a few years but wouldn't deteriorate much performance wise.

the speed of HDD itself..
, yeah.. too much junk in HDD also one of the reason..
you always need to defrag and clean up the harddisk..

using CCleaner , Defragler..

but i'm using Auslogics Boostspeed.. it is really nice software... i dont mind buy it.. it is really worth it.. the price is --> USD 50 laugh.gif

hi, please help me guys. smile.gif i've been looking for a Laptop to do mobile surfing and some MINOR photo editing, Adobe LightRoom to be exact. my c2D rig is doing it fine, speed is not a problem as long as it is possible to post process.

Brand : Acer, Hp, Dell, any type of brand
Budget : RM1.5k - 1.7k Or LOWER, just wanted it for a few weeks
Specs :
Core i3
2GB DDR3 at least
250GB HDD is enough since i got external storage
got a intergrated GPU is possible, Intel HD can run lightroom also right? blush.gif
Operating System : i heard that we can get Windows Xp from Microsoft just for RM50 only right? is that true? but this is just a back up plan, Windows 7 Home Basic at least or better Home Premium 64bit
Size : nothing smaller than 14"

or advise me, and recommend me where to get cheaper one.

i'm blind in notebook section blush.gif

If you get the retail version of Win7HP, the total cost is already over 2k, better get the 4738G @ RM2099, better GPU.

Hi again,

just done a small survey and research; a few models caught my attention, need sifus suggestion/recommendation

1. Acer 5742G - i5 560 - GT420 1gb - RM3099
2. Acer 5745G - i7 720 - GT330M 1gb - RM3599
3. Acer 5745G - i7 420 - GT420 2gb - RM3799

4. Asus A52JC - i5 460 - G310M 1gb - RM2599 (plan to upgrade from 2gb to 4gb DDR3)
5. Asus A42JA - i7 740 - Ati 5730 2gb - RM3599 (tempting but only 14" screen - prefer to have 15" screen)

how bout warranty issues? i will be traveling a lot (Malaysia-Dubai-Africa) for the next 2 years. heard Acer only covers 1 year traveller warranty and Asus covers 2 years international warranty.

any recommendation among the listed?
a. budget plus minus 3.5k
b. for gaming n movie
c. mobility not an issue
d. good sound system

thanks in advance

Better get Dell Studio XPS 16, i5 460M + ATi HD5730, FullHD@RM3702 if you want good sound system...
or Asus N53Jq, i7 740QM + nVidia GT425M@RM3999, supposedly have good speaker and also comes with the 2 years global warranty...

A42Ja is on the soft side, speaker wise..
A52Jc definitely is a no, the GPU is weak....

Yes.....
There's no definite thing in buying notebook or electronic stuff, it can just straight broken after you just take it out from the box, or it break after couple years, no one can guarantee....

yes.....but the chance of being bad luck is very low and will not be determined by brand......maybe by class but definitely not brand.

by class i mean business class laptop which cost over rm5k for a low end laptop. but if u r bad luck, vaio Z will die by the 1st night too. so..... =)

You won't get 15'' with i7 with long battery life...
better revise the requirement...

15'' with long battery life currently is Acer 5820TG, but need to import from Singapore, priced around SGD 1.4K...

Do you need dedicated GPU?
15''-16'' now mostly consist of i7 Quad and dedicated GPU which would run down the battery life roughly around 2 hours...
e.g.
Asus N53Jq, i7 740QM + nVidia GT425M@RM3999
Acer 5745G, i7 740QM + nVidia GT420M@RM3799
Acer 5742G, i5 560M + nVidia GT420M@RM2999
Toshiba Qosmio F60-S531, i3 350M + Nvidia GT330M@RM3199

except business grade notebook that has 15'' with i5 and GMA HD to preserve battery life, but that mostly is Dell that fit your budget...

okay, thanks for the quote, Rm1499 is RRP or street price?

btw, can i give some comment on the Toshiba F60?

that one feel suck to me, it is quite laggy(maybe is the problem of the unit i try, don't flame me and don't believe this unless u try it your own self) and the touchpad isn't that smooth also.

hmm, which shop? smile.gif

@HanJin95

but still depends on user preference.

better to get 2 interested model before go buying, later the 1st option isn't that favorable, always got the 2nd option.

if only got 1 option/choice, u are a pointless if that choice isn't the one u like. those sales man will just push u the model according to the screen size. and u don't even need to bother about those free gift accessories set cause it is so dirt cheap(RM10 and below below below!, cant reveal the real price, takut ada spy tongue.gif ), just get the lower price for the laptop only. hope u understand what i'm telling. i'm a sales person blush.gif

i5 = dual core
i7 = quad core
(generally)

the i7-620m is a high clocked dual core.

depends, if ur using software that requires or is optimised for quad core... then yes.

Eg, GTA4 and RE5 would run better on an i7 than a high clocked i5
or...
rendering video files/images using things like After effects or Photoshop would work better on i7

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for daily usage such as gaming and stuff.

My budget is about 2k-4k.
I'm looking for a 15.6" laptop with ATI graphics, and a good processor smile.gif

A few of my friends recommended me the Dell Studio XPS 16, but it's kinda expensive.

Thanks.

No other choice really, for 15.6'' with ATi is SXPS 16...
Other competitor in that price range is using nVidia...
while other 15.6'' with ATi has weaker GPU than SXPS 16...

Okay, XPS, dream laptop. Bam!
Problem is, it costs too much.
My savings right now is only 200+ or so.
That is like 3.9k?

Oh man.

@hanjin95 considering you have no idea whats a GPU and i5 i7 these IT terms, my wild guess is you don't need an overpowered laptop for daily usage? maybe you can list down your daily usages here....cuz rm4k is a big budget if you dun need a GPU. and you can go for models with more battery life aka 5820tg is a good choice =) 15 inches are 3kg tho...so if you buy an i7 with less than 2h battery life, u need another charger with you somemore. bad bad if you dun really need i7.

small tip: a rm2.5k might do ur job well ;D

Which model/version of Dell XPS should I buy? My friends told me that I don't need to get the most expensive because one of the " middle" ones are good enough for gaming.

I would just like
4GB DDR3 RAM
ATi Radeon HD 5730
And a i7 processor

How much would that cost? Or what should I buy instead of this?

i7 is definitely not the middle, its the most expensive...
and now Dell online also no more offer i7 SXPS 16, only i5 version, starting from RM3599
Most likely need to look from shop/sellers in garage sales if still insist on i7...

FullHD no lag... means ur settings probably go down to medium-low instead of medium-high.
You want no lag high settings need to get something like the GTX460m/GTX260m/HD5850

that's puts you abv the 4.5k mark....

If ur good enough with medium graphics then you can get it la (fps around 30)

Hi, I'm a student and I would need a laptop for basic usage. Surfing, doing assignments and stuff. Not really into gaming. Budget less than RM3k, dont mind going for a higher end. Is HP and Compaq recommended?

Hi,i'm interested in N43JQ, and at the same time A42JA as well for its graphic card.

Tho there's RM 500 difference, and A42JA has a better graphic card (2GB somemore), im just wondering if N43JQ is worth it (Better sound + USB 3.0)? and shouldn't the price be like the opposite?

Well, N series is the multimedia series than A (value), so the price is pretty reasonable..
and USB 3.0 still hold some premium price..
Basically the A42Ja is all about performance, other thing kept to minimal to keep lower cost...

Dear forumers,

Just a quickie....has been disconnected with the world of techologies for quite some time, so I need recommendations from young chaps here on laptops models for the criteria below:

Budget: RM 2500 tops
Size: 14" only
Uses for:
- Normal MS Office progs
- Movies, dramas, music

Other requirements:
- No overheating problems
- Moderate battery operating time, preferably more than 2.5 hours
- Preferably a reliable brand with good technical support

Thanks!

Actually Asus U35JC and U45JC caught my eye.. Love their brushed aluminium design. Sleek...
I thought of going for the U35JC because being 200grms lighter..

I guess games like COD etc i need to set around medium config because of the laptop?

The new Timeline X is really worth to buy, even if the HD5650 after have better replacement, still can sell 2nd hand the lappy for its battery life longer than normal lappy. Right?

Anyone can recommend me a good laptop?

Any brand would do,

Budget is rm4000(not a single sen more!),

I'd probably be spending alot of time with photoshop, powerpoint, online games like TF2, L4D etc, watching alot of anime and shows, editing music videos, recording songs and editing them, watching youtube vids.

Size? Not sure about size. Would bigger be better? Most of the stuff i watch aren't always HD or anything. And about the memory, would it be better if i got a external HDD to store my stuff or get a laptop with large space in it? Since my stuff might reach up to 500GB(probably more) in the future.

And one more thing battery life. I'd like a to-be-able-to-watch-a-couple-of-hours-of-anime-before-the-battery-goes-dead kinda battery life.

Thanks in advance! Btw, I live in jb and travelling up and down to s'pore isn't a problem. So maybe it might be useful. Somehow. smile.gif

Will the 2GB A42JA GPU make a lot of difference with N43JQ's NV 425m?

Also I notice that N43JQ is mainly sold in US/UK, and of course in this forum. Having this said, most probably this model will not appear in the December's Pikom PC Fair right? So should make no difference if bought now?

Been looking at Dell M101z (better GC?) and Acer 1830TZ (better proc?).. seems like they are the best choice i have right now.
But their price actually can get those higher spec like C2D P6000 14" but heavier as well.
So, I am undecided now.

Based on specs the NV GT420M is more super than HD5650, but current benchmarks is 5650>GT420M. "Maybe" future firmware will bring improvements. laugh.gif What I like about the 4741G the keyboard is comfy nice to type on. thumbup.gif

*
Nope, 2GB is simply overkill, even 1GB is more than enough.....
Well, by December, a lot new model might come up and have better spec/price compared to now...

QUOTE(daron @ Oct 16 2010, 03:31 PM)
Brand : any type of brand
Budget : below RM2k
Specs : anything better than netbook..
Size : nothing bigger than 13"
mainly for portability for travelling and carrying around. Normal usage, most intensive is FB flash games and HD movie thru HDMI.

Been looking at Dell M101z (better GC?) and Acer 1830TZ (better proc?).. seems like they are the best choice i have right now.
But their price actually can get those higher spec like C2D P6000 14" but heavier as well.
So, I am undecided now.

Maybe there are others which i missed?  notworthy.gif
*
There's also Dell M301z if you prefer 13''...
Well, of course you can get better spec with the larger screen, but you lost more portability which is the major selling point of these 11.6'' notebook...
Its depends which you value more for your money, power or portability..

Its more like they mean its has limited viewing angle, where you would start to see the image has inverse colour...
Could tilt until 120 degree..

so m101z or asus 1215N (which i nearly forgot), which one is better since both similar pricing? i think asus 1215N still is using the Atom platform although it's dual core..

is acer 1830TZ not that good with its U5400 proc? i thought that is the most powerful for its range..

so i guess it's between m101z, 1215N and 1830TZ right for similar size and price?

Processor wise, U5400 should be better, but GPU wise, HD4225 should be better...
1215N wise, it still using Atom, so better go with either the other two..

Envy is the high-line series already. Heating problems shouldn't have any, remember whole casing acts as a heatsink like the macbook pros. But then again... HP due to slim chassis might run hotter than other laptops... but not heating problem till overheat.

Would it be easy if i were to later replace the internal HDD of the HP ENVY myself? Cuz when i saw the bottom, it was quite seamless.. Just afraid that i would have to take out the keyboard etc wheni choose to replace it.

One more thing, does the HP ENVY 14 have the Radiance display?

Its easy to replace the HDD, you just need to open the base that close the battery, the hdd is just beside the battery.

If not mistaken, its not Radiance...
Did you checked its resolution? If its 1600x900 then its Radiance display.

Apparently audio quality is slightly weak unless you plug in a pair of Dr Dre's Beats headphones.

Hmm.. HP Envy 14" and Dre Dre Beats HP Envy is different?

+1 Thanks marcus20125 for sharing notworthy.gif
Its really a cool laptop~
It looks rather weird with the protruding speakers when the laptop is opened though haha laugh.gif But its a beauty when the lid is closed drool.gif
I think the speakers will obstruct the ports when the lid is closed down though.... still, let's wait for reviews~

Hi all,

I am looking for a laptop for my sister,

1. Brand -- Any
2. Budget -- Around RM2500 (Not more than 3000)
3. Specs -- For surfing, Photoshop, and Illustrator activities
4. Size -- 14"

She will be traveling abroad (New Zealand) and she needs a laptop for some online and photo editing activities.
I prefer laptop with good international warranty. Maybe onside if possible...
Also prefer light laptop, as she will be carrying it around and it would be tiring if it is too heavy.
Any recommendation? Thanks in advance. smile.gif

speaking of laptop,
i just bought compaq presario cq42,
i love the design, and the screen is wide enough for me!
but then i totally forgot to look at the specification of the laptop...
doh.gif maybe too excited to bought it just now.
so it got 320 GB, 2mb ram, and intel pentium.
is intel Pentium good?
coz i thought i got the Core Duo one, but turns out, its pentium..
so is there anyway to exchange it

Core Duo is really outdated by now....
Even Core 2 Duo now is replaced with Core i3/i5/i7
The Pentium is cut down version of Core 2 Duo, but current Pentium based on latest architecture, so it still a fine CPU for normal usage...

I would recommend Toshiba..check they have some great deals with extended warranty. I just bought the L645 Satellite series, quite satisfied with it. Other top choices would be Dell, HP and Lenovo. Acer and Asus a BIG no no. Thats my personal opinion

Is it available in MY?
The one I know is M645-1002X which is RM3999...

Judging from its spec online, it would be able to achieve long battery life, but do note that is because its 12-cell battery, which need to take account its extra weight...\
Seems like the notebook + 12 cell is 8.2pounds/3.7KG which is even heavier than 15''/17'' notebook....

Hi, i want to buy a laptop. Around 1.5~1.6k. Any recommendation. I don't play game at all, all i want to do is just doing documentary stuff and surfing internet. I don't prefer netbook because the screen is too small.

The lower price the better.

Thanks

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop meant mainly for running 3D applications and video editing works. Apps that I plan to use include Autodesk Maya, Adobe AE and Premiere or other high end video editing programs (Shake/Nuke/etc). Gaming is an added plus but not the main priority.

Could you recommend a lappie? Brand is not a concern although if possible, a brand that's trustworthy in terms of reliability and good customer service would be nice. =D

Budget ranging from full high end to mid range. The size preferably 15" and above.

Sorry if the request is vague. ^^"

Still very blur with lappies. XD

1. Brand: not too sure but preferably not Acer, compaq is NO.
2. Budget: max is RM 3.5k.
3. Specs: graphics not important at all, more concern on fast proc.
4. Size:12" or 13"..no smaller.no netbook/atoms.will only consider 14" if slim/lightweight as 13" or 12" models.

Office/light usage.Good looks is a plus.

Maxed out specs please except GC.(even internal graphics will do)

Better consider
Asus A42Ja, i7 740QM + ATi HD5730@RM3599
Dell XPS 14, i7 740QM + nVidia GT425M@RM3499
Asus X42Jr, i7 740QM + ATi HD5470@RM2799

Nope, those notebook won't last long since they are using Quad core...
For long battery life and performance, you would need notebook with Switchable GPU,
something like HP DM4, Acer 4820TG, Lenovo Y460...
By now, the favourite is Acer 4820TG, providing the larger capacity battery than others and also better GPU with the cheapest price among three (RM2599)...

Means no 14''?
13'':
Dell Vostro 3300, i5 560M + Nvidia 310M, Pro@RM3169

15'':
Dell Vostro 3500, i5 560M + GMA HD@RM2969

else
14'':
Asus X42Jr, i7 740QM + ATi HD5470@RM2799

But you need to drop the black colour except for 14''...

after some comparison between lenovo z360/dell studio 14/asus u35jc, i think i'll stick with ASUS u35jc for the scoring nearest to my criteria..

As far as I konw....there's no 10.1-11.6 inchers with built in optical drive hmm.gif
There's some 12.1 inchers which might have them (from Fujitsu iirc) but are very expensive cry.gif

1. Brand: Any brand except HP and Compaq. (My last lousy laptop is HP)
2. Budget: RM3k -RM3.5K
3. Specs: able to run smooth while multitask-ing (autocad, photoshop, illustrator), games like warcraft, sc2
4. Size: 15 inch

additional:
a) ATI GC and Nvidia GC, which one is better and more stable? My ex-laptop running Nvidia Geforce 8400MS, problems always occur.
b) what brand laptop have longer service life?

Really need recommendation here, thank you very much =)

can consider the
Dell XPS 15, i7 740QM + nVidia GT435M@RM3499

a) now between both not much difference, the GT8400m was the faulty gc, not hp's problem.

b) service life, if ur talking about laptop service warranty, then it depends how many years warranty you buy lur. If ur talking about how long the laptop can tahan, then it depends on how you treat your laptop. If you dun damaged it (eg, put on bed and use for long hours, drop it etc) then it can last 3 years easily. And by then, the tech will be nearly outdated, and probably a good time to refresh your laptop. But of course you can use it for longer... my bro's first compaq laptop is being used by my dad for word processing only (7 years old)
