I dunno whether this had been asked b4 or not. I am new to Mac. Previously when I was using a Dell lappy, I will connect it direct to an AC outlet, thus bypassing using the battery. Can I do this with my MBP by connecting the Magsafe Power Adaptor to an AC power outlet? Will this be bypassing the battery in the MBP?
*
The battery knows when to charge and when not to charge. Well if you open up the laptop and remove the battery , which you could do. The laptop would go down to reduced performance , this is totally normal. Even dell does this

This means it's ok for me to keep the Magsafe Power Adaptor plug in to the AC outlet and with switch turn "on"?

is there any alternative choice since you can't remove your mbp battery?  dunno if I'm consider lucky or not. I always plug in when I use my MacBook unibody ( removable battery) . the battery spoit within 20months. luckily they replace it for me FOC under APP.
*
meh, this is one of my biggest concern too. the only difference, my unibody mbp's battery is not removable so i dont really have any choice.

my mbp is less likely to be on the move, so most of the time it will be on magsafe adaptor. and according to apple's guide, battery calibration should be done weekly, and that's what i've been doing. From the battery capacity logging data in Coconut Battery, it appears that my maximum capacity has deteriorate to 97% after 8 cycles of charging.

my question is, is this descending trend a norm? i dont want to be anal about the 2~3% of the whole thing, but i certainly do not wish to see a 10 or 20% drop after 50 charge cycles.

the first 1-5% drop is normal. my battery is 1.75 years old and it's at 85% health, 323 cycles. i guess this is pretty low compared to others but it's good enough for me. still can last through a whole lecture. 1 hr lab with vmware + windows 7 running matlab also can tahan. i calibrate once every two weeks

juz use ur battery however it's convenient for you within ur warranty period. i think after 1 year still >90% is good enough dy

20 months with only 50 cycles... of course lar... electron tarak bagi jalan, battery pun karat... i did 40 cycles in just 3 months, and for that also I considered plugging it too much to power too often already, not good in the long run...

You got a point here. Nightly, I surf 3 - 4 hours and thus 1 charge cycle can hardly last me 2 nits surfing. Was trying to avoid hassle of charging the battery. By the time I finished surfing, it will be close to 1am. Don't wanna wait for battery to be fully charged b4 switching off power as not sure whether can let the MBP charge throught the whole nite until next morning. That'll be some 5 hours of charging. Wonder it's ok to let it charge over night.

at last decide to go just with 13" .. and im glad cause 13" is just nice in my lap. i think 15" would took more space ..
