QUOTE(doctorpopcorn @ Aug 18 2010, 02:01 AM) Just got my 2.53GHz i5 15" MacBok Pro two days ago. So far so good. Loving it. I'm proud to join the cult that is Apple Fanboi-ism. =p I'm curious... On what grounds did you opt for 2.53GHz i5 and neither 2.4GHz i5 nor 2.66GHz i7...?I don't mean to offend you, the reason I asked was that a lot of ppl think of 2.53GHz spec stuck right in the middle of 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz - with most opt for basic 2.4GHz with plans to upgrade on every MBP revisions, and 2.66GHz for them to last few years. 2.53GHz model however to these ppl are a waste of money as it brings very minute performance superiority over 2.4GHz, having similar amount of RAM and VRAM. A 180GB difference in HDD capacity and a 0.13GHz processing speed do not even justify the additional RM 600 (retail price) over the 2.4GHz model. QUOTE(doctorpopcorn @ Aug 18 2010, 11:09 PM) Yeah I actually had this dilemma when i was buying the MBP. I know the extra .13 GHz would have just a slight impact on boot time, file transfer time, video rendering time, etc., but for some reason i valued the 500GB HDD highly and thought that plus the slight superiority in processing power was worth the 600 bucks. Don't worry, you'll still get plenty of fun with an MBP... Having said that, I understand where you're coming from. And I'm now thinking if i made a mistake in getting this model. But what the heck, the money's been spent and I'm happy with it. So yeah. |

QUOTE(Howard Tan @ Aug 21 2010, 11:23 AM) Yea, the green little button does not bring it to full screen, it just expands big enough to show the entire webpage, so use the three diagonal lines at the bottom right of the window. There are also reasons as to why Apple did not implement the full-screen feature... useful to me for multitasking and drag-and-drop feature... |

QUOTE(cRazYee @ Aug 27 2010, 08:36 PM) when you mirror, definitely it will blur and there's no way for the smaller screen to handle the optimum resolution of the larger screen, other than the optimum resolution designed for that smaller screen size, so the larger screen will have to "give way" to the smaller resolution of the smaller screen, hence the blurry effect on the external display...big screen will follow small screen resolution nothing to do with mac, this is how computer works This post has been edited by Eithanius: Aug 27 2010, 08:41 PM |

15" Core i7, unplugged, running Safari, moderate wireless browsing, 50 - 70% brightness, some other apps running in the background without triggering the nVidia card, I can manage 6 hours...

QUOTE(mememe12 @ Sep 22 2010, 10:46 PM) since u guys tok about download manager.. i feel Download Them All in firefox is very useful.. it can download files from those site like megaupload/rapidshare and etc.. i tried other download manager like Speed Download, cannot do like what DTA can.. What features on DTA that you can't leave without Firefox...? I'm sure you can copy the download links and download manually using DTA...but i prefer to use Google Chrome, is there any alternative that can replace DTA at Firefox? One thing I don't like about DTA is the inability to control download speed, unlike Speed Download which I can control the bandwidth, so that my Screamyx have room for other users in my household... QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Sep 23 2010, 12:15 AM) because DTA is a firefox plugin, not a standalone app. closing firefox meaning closing DTA as well. so far it's my favourite Nah... it's not that bad once you get used to it... I'm using Safari with DTA, problem is just manual assignment of downloads to DTA.., most of the time I assign heavy downloads via DTA on my desktop PC, I don't need to strain my MBP hdd too much... |

QUOTE(cRazYee @ Oct 8 2010, 03:01 PM) http://superuser.com/questions/82282/disab...closed-lid-modeAnd if you're competent enough for the last part to mess with kext... Personally I don't give a damn about any (redundant) software to sleep the display. Just close the damn bloody lid, use my external keyboard to wake it back up, then open the lid again. I've also contacted Cody Krieger of gfxCardStatus to recommend him implementing such feature on his little piece of software, he's looking into it.... |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 9 2010, 11:54 PM) Lots of i7 users here. I've got the MBP i7 too with 8GB Ram and 256mb SSD. Only thing I regret was I didn't get the hi-res screen. I had the same problem... All thanks to Apple for making it just an option... Btw, is that an Apple-configured SSD that you've got...? Or a third-party brand...? Do you download heavily on that SSD, or do you have a backup HDD volume where you download to - like a HDD fitted in an OptiBay or equivalent...? I've read somewhere that writing extensively on SSD will decrease its performance, and Mac OS X doesn't support TRIM function. This post has been edited by Eithanius: Dec 10 2010, 08:40 AM |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 10 2010, 09:40 PM) Sure can, it'll make the MBP 13" fly. 2.8GHz is just a very minor speed bump and not worth the money. I'd rather invest on an SSD. Speaking of which, OWC is offering a 240GB SSD for around 1.8k including shipping. Throw in the OptiBay for a secondary HDD would bring it to 2K. I was about to invest on that until I read about upcoming 3rd-gen SSD probably available by end of Q1 2011... Looks like I have to wait a little longer while using my current Momentus XT.Cost me RM1870 from the distributor. Low Yat still 2k plus, I think, for 250GB. Let me know if you want one. Yeah, it's expensive, someone told me that I can buy another notebook for that price, but at least I'm comfy with 250GB. At the very minimum, 160GB. Anything less than that is just not enough. Added on December 10, 2010, 9:50 pm The hi-res screen would have been nice but I couldn't wait for Apple to deliver. Since I was already at the Apple shop, I just bought it. 3 weeks later, they came out with the 2.8Ghz option. Grrr. As for the SSD, it's 3rd party, mine's a Corsair F240. It was an impulse buy. I went to get the OCZ Vertex 2 but they didn't have that at the time, had to wait 2 days. Corsair was in stock so got that on the spot. Both have the same chipset, almost same performance. OCZ is supposed to have better firmware but what the heck. I do some download, not too much. The MBP is my workhorse. It's paired with a 500GB Passport Studio FW800 drive for storing my work when I'm on the go. I do a lot of work at Starbucks. :-) Everything is then synced back to a 2TB Studio II at home. |

my plan will either be 120GB or 240GB SSD on HDD bay + 500GB HDD on OptiBay + external SuperDrive
no point having so many SSDs as my downloads will wreck the SSD sooner or later with too many rewrites... |

QUOTE(ergo_etc @ Dec 12 2010, 12:44 AM) Just bought myself Macbook Air, the base 3299 model. Was told by the epicenter guys that it would take 2-3 weeks to get the 4Gb version, so I just pay and left. 3 business days to ship from their factory... and probably a few more days to get to you...Now, i saw the online store says it takes only 3 days! grrrr.....
