I have no experience in alibaba too. I see the word and spec twist here and there even same product but different seller. See already feel like kena scam. Still feel ebay much more safe.

Look for the voltage. It should have driver which can use on our voltage. Some built in. Some outside. Other is lumens/watt. Higher lumens/watt, more bright and less energy to use.

Yeah, CFL still bang for the buck. Brighter/w and cheaper than led.

I think i will get a Cree downlight from eBay US. Barai it and see can modify or not.

Hi guys, I have a 24 feet X 15 feet living hall, total size is 360 sq ft.
I wanted to build a L Box surrounding the living hall which will form a shape of rectangle, the wiring man suggested to install total 16 downlights at the L Box area. My questions are:
1) Is 16 downlights too many for a 360sq ft living hall?
2) If the number of downlights is 16, should I use 4" or 6" downlights?
3) What wattage should I use for the bulb if there's 16 downlights? go for lower watt?

Please look at these pictures to get an rough idea of my wiring layout.

How many switches for 16 downlight? You need minimal 4 switch, best will be 8. But why so many?

Better use T5, much brighter and better distribution of light. You can configure 2 switch for the T5 inside the L box. One for Even, another for Odd. So switch both you get all your T5 switch on.

2 switches for 16 downlights, 1 for even 1 for odd number. I was advised to install 16, distance between downlights is around 4-5 feet..Maybe the wiring man want to earn my money..sigh, I should have done research before the wiring..now If I insists to install just 8, then 1 switch will turn on all 8 downlights.

16 downlights are overkill.

One light point is about rm50. You just spent about rm 750 on light points alone. I shouldn't say too much since my living room alone 15*15 has 10 points. sweat.gif But am using LED 3W. Normal downlights are really bright though so you shouldnt installed so many.

You try asking if 4 light points can share one current, sort of like an extension.. maybe will be cheaper.

For 16 downlights, I suggest you get 8 switches.. 1 switch for 2 downlights. Save your electricity bill. Sometimes you don't want too bright also. That's me la.

Walau, why so headache with all this thing. Just go to light shop and get 1, 6" downlight ok liau. And use cfl 18w or 23w kautim.

I want to mod the led downlight internal driver direct using dc voltage.

Easy, change to T5, even and odd. Better still convert it to 6 downlight in center, and 2 more switch on T5

If still possible to change, get T5 ambient lighting. They're much better in terms of cost saving and light distribution. Only requires one or two light point to brighten the whole room. (think 2 light point versus 16 light points $$$$)

If given the preference, I will choose this in sequence order.

T5
CFL, external ballast
Energy saving bulbs with build in ballast.
LED

Hi,

I have a question regarding T5 as I got a quotation from contractor for each t5 point.

example lets say 10 T5 light - Price per point times 10

Attached Image

Seems to me from post above T5 only need 2 light point ?

I wonder maybe if I was conned by this contractor.

Please help to verify.

thanks

Not sure about what the quoatation given, but one light point could interconnect up to 5-6 T5 (4 feets T5), and each T5 have Female / Male connection which allow connect to another T5.
Except your contractor are charging you each light install are RM10 not light point. As light point normally are more expensive perhaps 20-30 per light point cost.

My contractor charge me only RM5 for 1 row T5 ( 5 T5) base on one light point, as he just need to make Back to back coonection on T5....

Same for my case, the T5 connected using the male & female connector which only use 1 light point.

Anyone using the remote control for the switches? What is the recommended brand? Tomato?
