Other than recording functions, is the any other changelog to this new firmware... And does B.yond PVR has the same interface/GUI as normal B.yond decoder??
*
The GUI the same.

There is now the 3rd option for viewing a channel.

Pillar Box and Fit to screen (the current options) and the 3rd one specifically for 4:3 channels that letterbox their output (like Discovery). this option is called LB Expand (for LetteBox Expand). Basically it is the zoom feature that was on briefly before but tweaked a little bit so it's not so much zoom as before. Anyway as I said it is not for use as a default setting but to be used when a programme on a 4:3 channel letterboxes their programme. Like the other aspect ratio change you can control this directly from your remotes AR button.

The firmware upgrade is for all b.yond decoders.

haha.

I can't tell you what to do.

Do you want a dual tuner with built in HDD then get the PVR. If you want the ability to record and understand that you can't watch another channel during the record then get the plug and play option.

I don't know what time the upgrade starts or how long it takes sorry, it's best just to put your decoder into standby when you go to bed and in the morning it will have done it. history says that it will be after midnight and probably before 1am. Remember this is not a dynamic update you must put your decoder into standby and it could take 5 minutes before it even detects that there is an update ready to install before it begins the upgrade process.

Tall Justin,
Can I use any WD My Passport AV after byond PVR function enable?
I mean, if my 1st HDD is full, I just swap with new HDD & use it straight away?
Another thing is HDD need to format for initial use?

i think it's unfair for max users who switched to beyond just 6 months ago and are denied the new pvr for free. I still have my max since i opted to pay for installation when i fixed beyond, but cs says nothing doing...still have to pay 300 bucks!! A huge load of bullshit if you ask me and typical kampung mentality of a so called international broadcaster!! I'm making a report at the consumer tribunal in the morning on this issue. At least astro should provide the pvr for free for those who still keep their max decoders. Astro = monopoly=unethical practices!!

I was asked on V.4 "why can"t I use my1 TB powered HDD"

The WD My passport AV HDD has been the only HDD that has passed the requirements of having a low power consumption and several other criteria. They tested lots of HDD and many have a built in reboot function when left on longer then 24 hours, this of course would interrupt a record. Most are just too heavy on sucking the juice during power up.

I think then rather then just opening it up for any old HDD which could cause poor recording or even damage the decoder they have made a white paper and at the moment only the WD My Passport AV 320GB passes it.

If power is a constraints, how about HDD using external power?

You guys are crying over spill milk. What's the use complaining to the authorities? When Byond first came out and you saw the hardware and noticed the "recording" button, you should have asked what's that all about. If they had fail to give you an answer (of which they have no answer anyway), then adopt the wait and see attitude. You don't go complaining when for example you buy a car today with no airbag but lo and behold they install one on the next batch for about the same price? Same with you don't go complain to Intel when they come with a faster processor when you just bought yours. Ditto mobile phones or any other gadgets.

The thing is, there will always be an upgrade. It's whether you have the patience to wait for next one. But since you didn't..oh well.

Yeah, that's what I was repling about, use of an externally powered HDD. None meet the requirements yet.

This is a world first guys, no where in the world has this option. It will I'm sure make other HDD manufactures step up their game.

I honestly do not think this is due to power constraints, but rather firmware / drivers issues. I am sure when Astro develop the current decoder's software, they have that external hdd in mind. Depending on how much time / effort (man hour = cost) they want to spend to develop for any other external HDD. They will definitely offer more than just one, but don't expect a lot.

Who knows some other external hdd might also work... will know once more ppl pay for the additional RM5 fee rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

i signed up at Midvalley today for the pvr. think it is worth it especially i would now be able to watch on demand rather than linear stream. the time saved is money. so 10ringgit is well worth.
But notice the pvr is without ff, so we would have to watch axn will all the commercial.

what is FX HD? and which package does it belongs in?
*
should be together with AXN else it would be in the Starworld range of numbering
so at least Astro did not make us take the Starworld package to watch FX rclxms.gif
