I have one scenario here.
Let say I'm using Byond EHDD and record AXN HD, during a recording I switch to ESPN HD, what will happen to my recording? Is it fail or what?
*

I think these are possible scenario:
- Software prevent you from changing channel
- It will ask confirmation to really changing channel then it will stop/continue recording
- You can change channel but your recording will be affected too
- Maybe other possible scenario, just wait & see

Does anyone have any details on the device astro is selling so you don't need to lay 2 cables? I just did up my TV room and the sat cable is behind the fixed cabinet. I can't add another if I do choose to get the new box sad.gif
*

No you can't. HD channel using higher frequency, you can't share cable with other tuner using same LNB.

Agree, this is daylight robbery. I wouldn't mind paying one off activation fees or whatsover.. but a monthly commitment ?
*

There are several (if not most of them) Pay TV operator around the world also charging monthly fee for their recording function

Tall Justin,
Can I use any WD My Passport AV after byond PVR function enable?
I mean, if my 1st HDD is full, I just swap with new HDD & use it straight away?
Another thing is HDD need to format for initial use?

I just ordered the new Astro PVR Boxed tongue.gif
*

Only 500GB - 100hrs of HD recording, not even enough to record all World Cup match. If you use byond with ext HDD, you can add another HDD brows.gif

There is recorder with HDMI input, but you can't record from byond HDMI output, it's protected with HDCP

By the way, you can't remotely program your B.yond PVR or B.yond + HDD using the internet. That means if you forgot to do it at home, you better hope Astro repeats the broadcast. They should have put this feature in at launch.
*

I like this feature, hopefully Astro will add it later.
They also can improve EPG to include 'also in this week/month'. That's mean, you will know when the show will repeat.

My humble opinion, pls go for the PVR I think its better and less headache ! Why complicate the matter afterall xtra RM5 and we have less work to do icon_rolleyes.gif
*

The headache will come when HDD is full, you don't know which one to delete tongue.gif
& don't know about its reliability, hopefully not same like AstroMax.

btw what about the ownership of the new PVR. Is it belong to us or Astro (that's mean lifetime warranty). If it is the latter case, why do we need to pay RM300?

Yes, not enough. brows.gif I want to record all WC match & other stuff as well. Not even reach semifinal match, it will be full laugh.gif

dat SDS device is only use if u want to use single cable from the dish to the decoder... else need to use 2 cables from dish to decoder for byond pvr...
correct me if im wrong sifu... smile.gif
*

Don't think installer know about this. They must insist to install 2 cables because it was directed to do so by Astro. Furthermore, it's hard to find it here. Also you need power supply near the stacker.

the web only says decoder..

Yes, they change it with new 65cm dish. Dish, decoder, remote & smart card all need to return. If you not return it, they will charge RM80 but smart card is a must.

QUOTE(y2k @ Jun 3 2010, 10:08 AM)
I have B.yond as the 1st decoder and AstroMax as a second decoder (@RM 38 per month).
When I called Astro about upgrading the AstroMax to the B.yond PVR, they said:
1. no charge for the PVR (RM 300 waived)
2. no recording charge for 12 months (RM 10 per month waived)
BUT
3. need to pay additional RM 20 per month for the B.yond service on the 2nd decoder. WTF!
I am thinking of canceling my 2nd decoder (hardly watch) and sell off my AstroMax decoder?
*

RM20 is for HD charge, off course you need to pay. If you want it waived for 12 months, buy Samsung TV, they have promo now whistling.gif

*Or you don't need to subscribe to HD package, so no additional RM20 monthly icon_idea.gif
QUOTE
8. Must I subscribe to HD in order to get the Astro B.yond PVR?
No, you do not need to subscribe to HD. However, you will not be able to enjoy and record the Astro
HD channels. We recommend that you consider taking our HD channels for a better viewing
experience.
Note: RM10 monthly recording service fee is compulsory with the Astro B.yond PVR box.

QUOTE(ameeyn @ Jun 3 2010, 10:58 AM)
just got byond installed yesterday..
1) the pq is great but the volume of the sd channels are so low even in full volume..is there any way to rectify it?
2) can I get 5.1 sound if I connect the HDMI cable directly from the decoder to my av receiver and then the receiver to my tv?
3) is anyone selling coaxial cable to optical cable converter here?
*

How many times you need to repeat LOL
1)I know volume level is low, but I didn't notice any different between SD & HD channel. Is your firmware updated to ver 2.0?
2)yes, provided you receiver support 5.1 from HDMI. But only certain HD program will be available for 5.1, normally NGC HD & HBO HD.
3)I don't think so, you need to find it online. But you don't need it if you use HDMI to your avr

i repeated it coz no answers  tongue.gif
1)How do I update the firmware? Is it automatically updated?
2)How about the sports channel,is it available in 5.1?
*

1) Just leave your decoder in standby mode, in 5 minutes it will auto update. But if your firmware already have latest ver 2.0, no update will be perform.
2) not sure, i don't have 5.1 setup. you can test it. but i don't think so. you can get simulated 5.1 by setting your avr to Dolby ProLogic laugh.gif

Seem like your HTiB doesn't have digital coax input, right?
If so, you can't. DD 5.1 can only connect using HDMI or digital coax output from byond decoder

What he meant is Astro exclusive right to broadcast using satellite until 20??, I forgot.

noob question, from old decoder, we can set certain channel to be favourite channel and we can skip the non favourite channel when we activate the favourite menu (push 0 button)...however, how does this function works on b.yond...i already set several channel as favourite, but can't find the way to use that function...
*

- Press OK, banner will appear
- Press Green button, menu will appear on the left, select Favourite
- Scroll left/right, you'll see only favourite channel appear
- Press OK again to change channel

Not sure about that but based on teh Bernama article, apart from Astro, 7 others were given the license to provide pay tv services. However, non of them (except TM of course) have started operation.
*

DETV & Fine TV already started their service through IP network lol.
But only Astro has a right to broadcast through satellite.

no you can't connect an external HDD to the PVR at the moment, why would you want to?

500GB not enough laugh.gif
It will be great if PVR can support external HDD for additional storage, I will not hesitate to subscribe then.
