As part of the National Broadband Initiative (NBI), Telekom Malaysia and the Malaysia Government have launched a broadband and netbook package called “Pakej Jalur Lebar TM dengan Komputer 1Malaysia” specifically for lower-income households.

The new package starts from RM38 per month for 24 months. The RM38 package comes with 384Kbps Streamyx and a netbook called Komputer 1Malaysia.

Consumers have the options to go for higher speed at cheaper price(4Mbps at RM88) or choose the HP Netbook at a slightly higher price. Those who signed up for the new package will receive:

* Streamyx broadband Internet access with speeds starting from 384Kbps
* One (1) Komputer 1Malaysia or Hewlett Packard (HP) Netbook with 160GB or 250 GB hard disk, 1 GB memory with integrated Webcam and WiFi capability plus FREE delivery anywhere nationwide
* One (1) FREE Streamyx Zone account and access
* One (1) FREE wireless modem with a 12-month warranty period
* One (1) Streamyx email account (xxx@streamyx.com)
* Add-on choice of the RM10 Call Plan
* Waiver of installation fees (RM88) and activation fees (RM75)

don have details in their website...but from the news is stated for low income family...

seen it last week in TM point... for uni students.

I doubt.... you can't have two same packages whilst only the names are different.

hmm, forgot it stated for low income family or " its a good news for low income family" ....

i believe many of us are from low income family it is a good news anyway

It is better if streamyx give us 1 netbook each month to help the poor income

Eventually they'll have to like remove it. Its going to be abused , you know why - someone will say they are poor just to get it. Typical Malaysians , just because of the free netbook which they are offering

Reminds me of the ability of withdrawing EPF funds to buy a personal computer several years ago (anyone remembers that) and plus it was abused to the maximum . people weren't buying computers , they fake it up and get the money and use it for something else ! I bet its going to be the same for this new package

The reason why the student package could not be abused is that you'll genuinely have to be a student , and you need to have a student card and such and approved by the university.

Well some people made fake documents though

i can see there is a big increase in streamyx user starting from last year, nearly every house in my kampung have streamyx, now with this package, i think the amount of user will keep increasing~ and we will see a lot of ppl gonna go terminate their existing package and re-apply again @.@

i called 100 this evening to inquire about uni pack.

then, they promote me about this package.

if im not mistaken, this package was called as "1 Malaysia" targeting only for lower income family which means that <rm5k/month for ur house hold salaries.

they said it will be launch this month.

not sure whether its true or not.

well...i dun care about the netbook....but i want the 4mb line for RM88 only
now i pay RM66 for streamyx 512kbps package+RM26 phone line rental which i never use....

RM92=512 Kbps
RM88=4Mbps

i pay more but i get less...why??

exactly!!! so if this is the case, u cant exactly enjoy the package rite... a loophole in the implementation...the developed area again enjoice at the expense of the less developed area..

If they want to achieve bigger internet penetration, stop introducing many new packages and reduce the existing packages for new and existing customer.

but this thing look great... ..don't really care about that netbook....compare rm140 with rm88 for 4mbps...unfortunately my contract still have 6 month...

this pack will also more or less give some impact for those who selling their free netbook from unipack

Yeah exactly.. in the end everyone can apply. Household income of less than RM 5,000? Well we will see about that, it will be abused anyway.

Not helping the poor at all. If they're already in contract, they have to pay the termination fee. Damn it. They think we have extra money laying around for that? Geez.

Anyways, for everyone else that saying this can be abuse, well, truth is, that is how much internet should cost in Malaysia actually. We have been paying expensive price for streamyx all this while. They should have done this for a long time ago. Bulk of Streamyx customer subscribe for 1mbps and below anyways and I'm quite sure most of them have low household income.

They might even put the famous (1) satu malaysia logo on the netbook itself.

But taking it with hp netbook is great but the price is not so good.

Thats the only advantage of applying Cool Uni Pack.

Nah, I'm quite sure this package is for all states. Besides, it was launched in Jelebu, Negri Sembilan. Also, from their press release.

I'm doing you a favor here. Go to nearest TM Point and ask them if 4Mbps is available to your house. As simple as that. No one here can answer your questions for you. We are not working with TM and in the dark as much as you are.

Official news not available on official websites yet? Can't seemed to find any info in http://www.tm.com.my nor http://www.streamyx.com at the moment.

Well I don't see why you can't migrate your current package to this package as long as you fit into the requirement.

That's what I'm thinking at first. Just like how Combo user upgraded to Blockbuster package, free, no termination fee/penalty even when you are still in contract. However, few pages back, someone said it doesn't apply for this Jalur Lebar package. You have to pay RM350 penalty if you're still in contract and want to change/upgrade to Jalur Lebar package. We should let the dust settle first. I'm sure even their customer service does not know much about this package yet.

Who can help me upgrade this package? hmm , current using 1mb

the netbook specs is the same as coolunipack.

Yea the real killer for this package is the 2 years minimum subscription period and during these 2 years you're not allowed to migrate to any other packages. Anything could happen within these 2 years. Anyway I suspect the termination fee of RM600 is to recoup back the cost for the netbook.

everytime TM release new packages is like luring old customer to change their old package and tied them with contracts

Seriously, i think the Komputer 1Malaysia (Natsys) and HP one looks the same.....

honestly..all netbook are the same..just the wwarranty period's tats different.. and,netbook are not made to last..so expect short useful life..

2day i went to tmpoint and found many ppl thr o, after I saw many ppl I straight run away coz wanna work cannot go out too long. I also heard that need to bring your salary slip oso

I plan to go to Damansara Uptown branch tomorrow during lunch time. But, i can foresee there will be a lot of ppl, not to mention, parking is also a huge problem there... What to do, better grab the deal fast !

I'm at Melaka, the TMpoint I go is at gajah berang, 2molo try other branch, hopefully can apply succesfully.

Still no news whether customer still in contract (Combo/Blockbuster) can change to this package without incurring termination fee/penalty. Anyone knows?
