Apple will say, as long as the code is valid, then shouldn't be a problem .. but if there is a conflict, someone claiming the same code and we don't have the serial number and proof of purchase .. then poof .. waste the RM .. ACPP for MBP is a bit over RM1K.

Im a new user of MBP 13'. So far so good, using 2 OS, Snow Leopard and Windows 7 Pro via bootcamp

when you said a lot, can you give a number of macs that you've seen personally that experienced the problem you mentioned above. Or do you based this from what you've read?

Its just advisable to do battery calibration after unboxing but of course its not compulsory. Yea normally people is advise to perform periodically calibration like once a month or once in 2 months like what goliath said...

Like I said its not a must or compulsory... its up to the user... I did mine was to double calibrate it since Ive downloaded coconut battery and my capacity was at 99%. Was weird so decided to calibrate it... Im not sure about apple but other computers they do instruct ppl do calibrate their batteries like charging for certain amount of hours before using etc...

Here's my view of not buying from local outlets:

1) Most of the time when you walked into store, they might not have stock for it.

2) Then you have to go to the mall, parking, jam etc.

3) Then you have to lug the packaging around the mall advertising to everyone "hey I got a brand new Mac here"... Target for next theft? U tell me.

4) Not everyone is buying a small Mac, what if they buy a iMac 27" or MBP17"? It's not easy to lug that around the mall.

5) Often the sales rep will open your unit prior hand over to you (for setup, registration or any reason). It's not "brand new" anymore, technically.

6) Lastly, most of them here, i can see order online using education discount, be it eligible for it or not.

Order online shipped to your door steps, wrap in brown box before the actual packaging. So why not?

One more thing, until today, non of the local store worth spending my blood and sweat money.

Yup updated price. It uses Geforce 320M and features 10 hours of battery too. Used to be RM3299 with edu price, now RM3099 with edu price. RM500 differences with the entry level MacBook Pro if compared with edu price.

Of course there are differences for that RM500 and this is a quote from nimrod

So MBP clearly is a better choice for the RM500 difference...

I think the MyBook Essential for Mac is enough for your daily backup and storage if you want a cheaper solution... Unless you need the firewire =)...

Correct, anything under the hood can be for Mac (so far for me). Just need to reformat it. I'm using the normal essential and it works fine

Apple suggest you use the battery at least once a weeks. Don't use till finish, use around 50% to make the ion move. Then every 1 or 2 months calibrate the battery. Calibrate steps,

1 - Use until the battery drain - until laptop shutoff itself.
2 - Leave the laptop around 5-6 hours.
3 - Recharge the battery until full.

Forget where I found this but it's from apple itself.
